Shock-o-shocks, Triple H wins. Yawn. Brock wins. That's good. Benoit and Angle win. That's good. Um...Victoria won. That was good. What do you, the wieners, think of the PPV?

Suffice it to say, it didn't suck. Now we get Edge/Mysterio vs. Angle/Benoit and Angle just might get the Grand Slam! All together now...
GOD BLESS SMACKDOWN!!!!!!!!!

I, personally, thought the pay-per-view was off the page, but I'm known to be easily entertained. I'd just like everyone who came on here and said that there's no way Taker would job cleanly to Brock on this show to come on now and eat some crow. Not only did Taker job, he made the guy look good. That was a brutal brawl, Taker pulled out all the stops, and Brock still beat him. Hell, Taker got his finisher off and didn't even win. That rematch did more for Lesnar than Taker jobbing to him last month ever would have done.

As for the rest of the show, I'd put every match in the "as good or better than expected" category, which is all I can ask for. Benoit/Angle-Rey/Edge was one of the best tag matches I've ever seen. Basically, I thought the whole show was solid and I got two matches that I'll never forget in that tag match and the Hell in a Cell. Maybe the storylines leading up were kinda weak, but in my book, they delivered tonight.

There.

Undertaker layed right down for Brock Lesner in a good match. Brock got out (ok, he didn't kick out, but he wasn't pinned by) the Last Ride, and jobbed clean to an F5.

Lots of blading, eh?

(Oh, right. HHH won. Commence bitching...)

Overall, $35 well spent. A good PPV.

I should have listened to spf2119 about HHH because he is the smartest Wiener around.

Since everyone else is doing it (ok, not EVERYONE, but...)

Vikings (1-5) - Well on our way back to 1-15.

I didn't see it, as this lil' town doesn't have PPV on the crappy cable system, but from the Meltz, it sounds like a boring show...
Tidbits:
Big Show most likely will be going to Smackdown!(joy.)
Stephuny said that she still loves HHH (UGH)
A rope broke when Jericho was attempting the Lionsault, he quickly improvised, doing a moonsault via the top turnbuckle...
As a result of said rope break, we got an interviewing NOT with a wrestler...no,no,no...we get the pleasure of an EXTENDED(like 10 minute)interview with Torrie's dad (aka Vince's alter ego)
Tajiri/Noble was added- Noble won
RVD had what was probably his best promo in the WWE, as he even strutted like Flair. RVD also won in a squash over Flair.
Brock pinned Taker CLEAN!? By converting a tombstone attempt into the F5(browser refresh) No Mattitude bump, no big bumps at all, actually.
Earlier in the night, The Hurricane broke out the Vertibreaker on Stevie Richards!
Not much else I can remember hearing...

Well, it is at times like this where I am very happy to be proven wrong. UT put Brock over clean, the announcers put Brock over huge, the visuals put him over huge, a great effort all around on the Smackdown side. Two best matches were SD matches, the 2002 MOTY was a Smackdown match, the best announcing was the Smackdown announcers. Overall a hell of a job from their group, excluding the Dawn/Torrie nonsense. And UT did make Brock look like a true star tonight.
As for Raw....well, that HHH match sure did have a lot of stuff happening at the end of it, so I guess that's good and all. How will he (and his legion of apologists) explain away the fact the SD tag title match had tons more heat despite no one in the match being a "main event" talent?

Oh, and Excalibur...I LOVE the signature ;)

I don't consider myself a wiener (I'm much too ahem above that) but it was slightly above-average. The Brock/Taker match was pretty good and the Smackdown tag match was MOTY, but while nothing sucked I'd need a better match on average than what No Mercy provided to put it into "good" or "great" territory.

Uhhhhhh...blame it on Kane? Come on, that's obvious. I like Triple H, but I'm not gonna pretend his match was more over than the SD Tag Title Match and it shouldn't have been. However, I don't think Kane even had any business being in that match, it should be Booker T and until he gets his title feud the Raw World Title matches will never be as over as they could be. Kane's just not World Title material in my book.

Come on, can you at least watch the show before commenting on it? Please?

Yeah, I expect the show to be boring too. When you read it. The show isn't meant to be read, it's meant to be seen and experienced. Recaps like the ones CRZ posts, are meant to be an add-on to the experience, and to go over the happenings for those who can't see it. They don't usually convey the emotion or excitement of watching a live (or even a taped) show.

The PPV was anything but boring. It had some low spots, but the high spots were incredible.

I'd rather you said that Meltzer's review was boring.

(And spf: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yuk it up! )

I honestly don't have a problem with HHH beating Kane. HHH needs to come down, yes, but I don't think anybody in the non-smark fan world would find Kane going over very believeable. Unfortunately, I'm not sure ANYBODY would be believeable going over HHH on the RAW roster right now.

I blame the writing for that. The RAW writers simply don't understand how to build a star. They just keep throwing people out there blindly with clearly no understanding of the fans perception of them (Bubba Ray's HHH promo before his match a couple weeks back is a prime example of this. It was a good promo that the crowd absolutely tore to shreds.)

Something absolutely needs to be done with the RAW roster and the "one star, thirty mid-carder" mentality that WWE has there with the fans. I just don't know that Kane is the right guy to have leading it.

The women's matches were better than the HHH-Kane fiasco. It might have been a more fun if they were fighting on a model of Tokyo like Godzilla vs. Rodan. Otherwise, ehh.

I didn't watch it, but judging by the reports, it looks like Undertaker/Brock match was something to see. And as the resident Taker-hater, I'll give him his due. Good to see at least one of the new guys going over an established, main eventer.

"One star - thirty midcarders"

Exactly the way Triple H has designed it. He's paying for it now because no one gives a crap about his matches. They know the run-ins and Pedigree finish are coming. Its time for HHH to job clean as a sheet to Booker T. Yeah right..

As for No Mercy, I was pretty entertained by the show. The tag match was worth the price alone, Undertaker earned some of my respect, and the rest of the show was solid.

I think it's been Kane's time for a while, until he came back recently. He traded his growling voice, burnt face gimmick, and "less talk more action" attitude for a half mask and goofy cheery attitude. He doesn't even seem like a threat anymore, just a tall guy who loves halloween all year round. The Kaneroonie is cartoony, I liked Kane before. By the way the match was good, stop crying.

Match of the night was the Smackdown tag match. Main event HIAC was good. Trish got the shit kicked out of her face by Victoria! I saw lots of booty at Hooters where I saw the PPV. This was way better than Unforgiven.

Random thoughts on No Mercy from a demented mind in South Florida:

+ I might've liked this show a little bit better had more faces won.

+ I vaguely remember from several years ago a guest appearance/interview by John Wayne Bobbitt shortly after Val Venis has his peepee chopped off. It was just about the most stiff, most uninspired, worst interview I've seen... until Al Wilson tonight. But I was mildly and politely surprised that Torrie-Dawn Marie didn't totally suck. Despite some sloppy ringwork, the match was decent.

+ Things my sick, smark mind would've totally marked out for: An Al Wilson heel turn (what, only Vince gets to mess around with the Divas?), Katie Vick (or is it Fick?) actually showing up during the Kane/HHH match.

+ Who would ever have thought that Chris Jericho and Yokozuna would've ever had something in common (well, other than being former WWF Champs)? I thought that rope snapping was a work at first, then I later realized that it wasn't supposed to happen. Kudos to Jericho et al for improvising and still managing to pull off the finish.

+ RVD - Flair - there was a point to this match, I'm sure. Bathroom break match, maybe?

+ Whatever they are paying Benoit, Angle, Edge, and Misterio - it's clearly not enough. I would've loved to see Edge & Misterio go over here, but I can also find many good things to Angle and Benoit being crowned as champs. Kudos to Misterio for letting everyone throw him all over like a rag doll, and kudos to Benoit and Angle for actually selling for him. Oh, and kudos to the WWE for getting the fuck out of the way and letting these guys just tear it up for 20-30 minutes. Easy Match of the Night, and possible Match of the Year.

+ Hell In Das Cell - a little sluggish for my tastes, but more than made up for it in sheer bloodiness. Brock blades, Heyman hits about 0.7 on the Muta Scale, and Taker bleeds like a motherfucker all over the place, just about breaking the damn Muta Scale. After watching Taker bleed like a sick pig all over the place, I'd have been tempted to have just stopped the match.

This show did have its good spots, like the Smackdown Tag Title Finals, Hell in the Cell, and even Noble-Tajiri. But otherwise, it just struck me as a lackluster effort and mostly forgettable show. I'm glad that I saw this at the local bar and didn't have to pay for it, frankly.

Ho-lee shit. That's all I have to say.

Well, not really.

Sure, sure, Angle/Benoit VS Edge/Mysterio was awesome, but I'm not even talking about that, because I *expected* that to be that damn good. (And, believe me, it was. Easily the best tag match I've seen since the one where HHH tore his quad.)

But that Hell In A Cell match... Oh. My. God. No one went off the cage - no one climbed the cage (except Brock to celebrate afterwards) - hell, no one ever even left the cage, but that was far and away the most brutal Hell In A Cell match they've done since those original two classics.

Taker bled like a faucet. Heyman bled like a faucet. Brock and Taker had the same color hair by the time the night was over.

And, here's the thing -- I'll tell you why that was a great match. The presentation. They couldn't shoot normally because of the cell and, and I've never noticed this in one of the previous HITC matches, there were an abnormal amount of close-ups and weird angles, which gave you an entirely different perspective on the match. I wish they'd shoot a whole damn show like that. It gave it an almost documentary feel. I can't be the only one who noticed that.

Aside from that, nothing was terrible (outside of RVD's promo), although I can do without the HHH/Kane fued (and I'll second the fact that I have a hell of a lot bigger problem with Kane main eventing than HHH. HHH has, at least, had good matches in his career. Aside from a few "really good for a Kane match" matches with Kurt "God" Angle, I can't recall a single memorable Kane match.)

I thought HHH/Kane was passable. For a little while, there was actually a part of me that thought Kane might pull it off, especially once Hurricane came down to even the odds.

Overall, the show was great. For those who read a freaking RECAP and thought it was boring -- you did not see what we saw. You didn't see Taker bust out one of the manliest bladejobs I've ever seen. You didn't see a the fantastic tag match, or the prematch promo from Eddy to Benoit as he thinks Benoit is trying to trick him into running blindly to rescue Chavo from Kurt, only to find out that Kurt really WAS kicking the hell out of Chavo. The Chris-Kurt Connection is really taking off (not to mention -- Angle finally has his Grand Slam). Even the "fluff" matches, like the two women's matches, had a pretty solid amount of wrestling.

And line of the night, IMO, goes to Lawler. "JR, stop being so sexist!"

I was trying to convince everyone at my bar that Tracy would be the one taking the big bump off the Cell, but no one was willing to go in on it with me.

Was I the only one shocked that this Hell In a Cell actually kept everything IN the Cell?

This was definitely one to see in a bar. I think part of the reason the crowd was so hot when I was watching it was that the World Series was on as well, so everyone was just in a cheering/jeering mood.

And I'll agree with whoever thought that Al Wilson was going to have a heel turn. I'm actually shocked they didn't go that route.
