So we have a corrupt criminal (Joe Davis) vs. an inept moron (Bill Simon). Now what? Who do you vote for in this case?

Always vote for the moron, he can do less damage intentionally. Davis is smart enough to know what he's doing is criminal.

I hate to be one of those people running around correcting other people's posts, but isnt it Gray(Grey?) Davis vs. Bill Simon?

Meanwhile, I dont know a whole lot about politics, but Davis is KILLING Simon in his TV ads. Davis was running smear campaign ads against Simon for like 4 months before Simon had ONE commercial about ANYTHING! Poor guy. I feel even more sorry for him after his ONE attempt at mud-slinging blew up right in his face.

Everytime me and my GF see Simon's ad on TV, she asks me "Why is this guy even running anymore?"

Believe it or not, I have to disagree with Grimis.

Damage done unintentionally is still damage.

As smart as a corrupt man can be, if he's the place where the buck stops, he'll get caught. If the leader is an idiot, rather than being corrupt himself, he can be easily manipulated by the corrupt around him.

Though at this point, the donkeys are so scared of looking like cowards that there's no discernible difference in the party line. (Which *makes* them cowards, but that's another post) So you may as well vote for the one with the better haircut or the hotter wife.

And what's not to say the idiot isn't corrupt himself? He is in politics after all. That's one strike against him.

Nope- there is no such person as Gray Davis. The current California governor's legal name is "Joseph Graham Davis." The very fact that he is registered to vote until a ficticious name is a thorn in my side-

And, as far as I know- this is Bill Simon's first attempt at public office.

I have to say, though, I am at a loss. Joe Davis is as crooked as they come- he blatantly accepts bribes, and often times his decisions BASED on these bribes affect the statew adversely- the power crisis for example. About the only stand he has made throughout his term that I AGREE with is his stance on parole for murder covicts... but that is getting him a lot of heat right now.

Suffice to say- I do not want EITHER of these guys as governor. Who do you vote for to make that point?

You live in California, I'm sure there's no shortage of nutcase third-party candidates. So vote for the Tofu-First candidate or whoever.

Or you can vote for my Grandmother. She lives n California and would make a better governor than either of those two.

Don't sweat the name thing though. This is America. Call yourself what you damn well please. It's not like he's trying to pretend he's someone else. I mean, no more than any polititian.

As for anyone that says idiots can't do a lot of damage: Three words. Hint: One's a letter.

Hey I never said idiots can't do damage(see Jimmy Carter). I just said it's better to have somebody stupid than somebody ridiculously corrupt(Bill Clinton).

Yeah, but isn't Simon still only down by 4-6 percent(somewhere close to the margin of error?)

Man, you'd think this Clinton guy ran over your dog or something.

Me... I'd take lying about a blowjob and 8 years of a booming economy over a pair of recessions and the constant threats of the country being thrown into war during the years bookending those AWFUL, DIRTY, GREAT FOR THE COUNTRY, SATANIC CLINTON years.

But that's just me.

And another thing... there are smart people of (nearly) all political affiliations, some of whom frequently make good or even great points about many many issues, and I can respect anyone with a good idea, no matter what party they're tied to, but judging by a lot of what you say, as well as your user bio, "The existence of Democrats proves God has a sense of humor", it's like you feel more comfortable spouting off Limbaugh-esque one-liners than actually putting forth something of substance that doesn't just read as "I sure hate those terrible Democrats."

I'm not exactly sure of what your point is here. I am certainly have no use for Limbaugh's oversimplistic, trite nonsense like some of my moronic conservative brethren. And this thread has not exactly leant itself to intelligent political discourse, nor does you diatribe about how wonderful the Clinton years allegedly were.

Nor does it take a rocket scientist to figure out that there are schmucks on both sides of the aisle. For evidence of that please visit www.dwyerfordelegate.com or www.davidkkyle.com for local instances of Republicans I aint voting for this fall.

Great- What is your grandma's name? I will write her in... I am not that big of a fan of Tofu anyway...

I am almost ashamed to admit it- but I think Davis might be a better choice. I do not think I can bring myself to vote for him (I can't get past his whoring), but he may well be the lessor of the two evils.

As far as Clintons "purity" goes- isn't Iraq, North Korea, the economy (now), and Al Quaida all Clinton's fault? While this guy was getting blowjobs and riding the wave of economic reforms brought about by a REPUBLICAN congress, he sat on his ass ond accomplished nothing. The North Koreans were pissing on the pact they signed with him about developing nukes, China was enjoying the supercomputers and nuke technology they got from Clinton in exchange for campaign dollars, Al Quaida was laughing their asses off at us for half hearted retaliation attempts, Clinton's unwillingness to accept bin Laden's head on a silver platter, and our total willingness to train their terrorists in our country, and Iraq was busy humming away, giving money to these terrorists and developing its OWN nuclear programs, flaunting their defiance of the inspectors RIGHT IN CLINTON'S FACE! All of these are huge issues right now, and they can all be traced back to BILL CLINTON! Thank GOD he was not allowed to have a thrid term! Yup- we have a huge mess right now, but do not blame the guy who is cleaning it up, blame the one who started it in the first place! And he did a lot more than lie about a blowjob- didn't he run headfirst into Bosnia (wait, what happened to peace? Bosnia has nothing to do with America...) to draw attention away from that SAME blowjob?
I simply can't take the arguments of a person who blindly supports Clinton seriously. The evidence is RIGHT THERE- the guy was an incopetant, lying, corrupt ass who did great harm to this country, but you chose to ignore it. I do support Bush right now, not because he is a Republican, but because I think he is doing a great job in a bad situation. Clinton was a joke- and if that is the best the Democratic party has to offer (and I know it is not), then I weep for it.
At least Gray Davis manages to ACCOMPLISH things in between his bouts of obsessive corruptness...

Nor does it take a rocket scientist to figure out that there are schmucks on both sides of the aisle.

So does that mean that you think some Republicans are schmucks, but all Democrats are? I don't mean to put words in your mouth, but I'm still trying to figure this whole thing out.

As far as Clintons "purity" goes

Wait, where in this thread was Clinton's "purity" mentioned? And has anybody even suggested a thing ever existed?

Iraq

Hey, take it from The Prez, Saddam is just "a guy that tried to kill my dad." Isn't it kinda WEIRD that this giant threat called Iraq just kinda popped up on the radar again? What happened to that Bin Laden guy again?

North Korea

North Korea has reportedly been working on building nuclear weapons since the early 80s- please remind me of how many terms Clinton was serving back then. The Framework Agreement was put together in 94, so Clinton was trying to do something, even if just on paper. What I'm saying is, it took 14 years to get to that, and yes, it ended up being worth nothing. This seems to me to be the fault of our government in general for the past 20 years for not doing anything about it, and when somebody did, it wasn't followed up on. Our government is at fault- democrats, republicans, everybody.

Clinton's unwillingness to accept bin Laden's head on a silver platter

So that would have prevented anything bad from ever happening, right? Killing the leader that so many People Who Don't Like Us would die for... that'd have been the end, right? But it's more fun this way, now we get to go in, and if we find him, we can blow up he and everybody else in the same country (wherever he ends up) to kingdom fucking come. That's the answer, right? So wait, why aren't we doing that again? Oh right, Iraq.

Yup- we have a huge mess right now, but do not blame the guy who is cleaning it up, blame the one who started it in the first place!

His dad? OH HO HO HO, I AM TEH FUNNAY

And he did a lot more than lie about a blowjob- didn't he run headfirst into Bosnia (wait, what happened to peace? Bosnia has nothing to do with America...) to draw attention away from that SAME blowjob?

Hi, I'd like you to meet Iraq. Why are we fucking with them now despite that whole 9/11 thing with Osama that we were REALLY mad about a while back? That little old thing killed a few thousand people and even had a plane or two aimed at Washington... how many people via Saddam have been flying planes into buildings here, again?

So why is Bush pushing our eyes and ears towards Iraq again? I hate to resort to comparitive politics, but that's what it's become on here, so in the end I'm just as guilty as anyone.

I don't think I "blindly" support Clinton (but if that's your opinion, you're welcome to it), I just think he was a lot better president that a lot of people give him credit for. You talk about him being a joke- do you even REMEMBER what the GWB presidency was like BEFORE 9/11? But then, all of the sudden, buildings blew up and he's a hero. I don't get how that works.

And how exactly is he doing a "great job"? By admitting publicly that he's willing to take our nation to war (not with that Al Quaida thingy, mind you... at least not right now) over what he seems to think is a family dispute, despite his own spokespersons' previous comments saying that to be untrue?

OK, I do not know how many times this has to be explained.

THIS IS A WAR ON TERROR.

We attacked Afghanistan not because AFGHANISTAN attacked us, but because they sponsor terrorism, openly harbored Bin Laden and Al Quaida, and they would not cooperate with us. And be beat the snot out of them. Afghanistan was an undeniable victory.

But what about Bin Laden!

Screw Bin Laden. Yeah, he should die, but this is not about the hunt for one man. His organization is the enemy, terrorism is the enemy, and that is what we are fighting. This has NEVER been about the search for Bin Laden above all else!

So why Iraq? Remember the Axis of Evil? That was not a joke. Iraq is one of the biggest sponsors of terrorism and Al Quaida. Al Quadi terrorists trained on hijacking planes in Iraq. Sadaam gave these people money to support their attacks on us. THIS IS PART OF THE WAR ON TERROR! And why wouldn't Sadaam want us to be attacked? We brutalized him in battle, and embarassed him in front of the world- held firm to sanctions and have not let him get away with weaseling out of his responsibilities.

Iraq is the logical next target. Why can't you see this? And yes- Iraq is a mess that Bush Sr. left. Sadaam should have been ousted then. Thank God that loose end will be tied up!

Any why the hell are we talking about this here? This thread is about the California Governer's race. Reply to this in a different thread....

With poison running through your veins, and death marching solemnly towards you, heroic acts become more of a necessity as you see your time dwindling.

Vanquishing your enemies, making amends to those you have wronged, and leaving words of love and kindness for those around you become second nature as your own mortality looms

However, true strength lies not in these last desperate acts, but in the actions of one who has to get out of bed the next day and face the consequences of doing that which you believe is right.

Yeah, before then it was great. Tax cuts, cutting the budget, getting close on social security reform. Life was kicking. The problems started thereafter(please see Patriot Act)

Looks like Simon has FINALLY started his smear campaign against Davis. He's got a couple commercials running now where he shows quotes from different California newspapers talking sh*t about Davis ("Incompetance or Corruption?", etc). Pretty damaging stuff. Maybe Simon has a teensy chance after all?

You and your state aren't alone in that dilemma. Here in Texas, I wish there was some way both Tony Sanchez and Rick Perry would lose. I am not too thrilled about either one of them.

I kind of LIKE the new Simon ad campaign- I saw the one where he was slamming Davis on the toxic dumping bribe. It does not mention Simon once- (unless you look real close at the "paid for by Simon For Governor" fine print- maybe his only hope rests in getting people NOT to vote for Davis, and then voting for the Republican by default (since voting for a 3rd party is a dirty idea)... might work. Who knows?

I agree that tax cuts for the super wealthy do not work to fix the deficit/budget problem. However, even if you took ALL their money and ALL their property and gave it to the Treasury, it wouldn't run the country for a year.
