Today they run a story about a guy who made a "three minute" joke he made while rolling a doobie, and follow that breaking news up with someone who had a dream about Brock Lesnar! I thought it was bad when they reported that someone had seen Chyna's book in a discount bin somewhere, but this is a hilarious new low. It's to the point of self-parody. "huh huh. we were taking gravity bong hits and I said "3 minuntes!" Dude, it was hilarious. thought you might like to know."

I take back what I said about the Torch being almost acceptable. At least there's Bruce. Once a month.

But don't you realize, it was Gerwitz who made the 'three minute joke' when writing the ending of RAW.

I want you to know, I agree with everything I've just said.

I've thought about making up a bunch of fake (but plausible sounding) "Obscure Wrestling References" and seeing which ones they actually use. For example:

"Hey Wade- Yesterday a guy was working on a car, and I heard him say that the engine was, 'stone cold'. I asked him if he was an Austin fan but he just looked at me funny."

Of course, then I realized that doing so would make me even more pitiful than the people who send in the real ones.

But isn't the onus on the Torch to decide to not print these obscure references? If people think that they can get their name on the Torch website (and I had gotten on with my comments in the past and I was proud and happy that my name was in print on their site), then I don't see a problem with it.

The people might be pitiful to you, but it is Wade's decision and he has to live with the many of those types of submissions he gets every day, so just count yourself lucky.

Not print them? YOU ever tried to find 'content' to fill a new and improved 'site'?
By the way, there was at least one 'discount bin' follow up that HAD to be exactly the type of imaginary obscure wrestling reference the Bishop suggests. And I'm sure I've failed to detect others.

The best part of "Obscure Wrestling References" is that that's not what "obscure" means.

LOL! You're right. They're actually, 'trivial wrestling references.' Or, 'remote wrestling datums.' Or something. Suggestions?

How about "Completely insignificant and digressive references made to professional wrestling in passing?"

How about "Filler".

Call it like you see it, Wade.

Since everyone else is doing it (ok, not EVERYONE, but...)

Vikings (0-4) - Bye weeks are boring (round 2)
Badgers (5-1) - Congrats to Penn State. Time to rethink our defense.
Twins (1-1) - The team looked like hell. Hopefully we can steal one in Cali.

I thought those "obscure wrestling references" were awesome. It was a sort of self-mockery. They're aware that many of the OWRs that they print are ridiculous, and it's as if they decided to intentionally jump the shark and take it to ridiculous extremes.

I dig that sort of thing. Not everyone has a sense of humor which matches mine though. In fact, most people don't. I am often left unamused by things which others find funny.

I agree with antizeus.

It's not as if they are trying to actually "report" something cool by adding those at the ends of their reports.

What's wrong with putting something totally stupid and silly at the end of an otherwise serious report. They do it on Sportcenter and in various sports columns in major newspapers all the time.
