Please note Funaki's TitanTron video on Smackdown. It is one of the most hilarious things I've ever seen. The "action" footage is merely him and his various backstage interviews, complete with the Japanese flag and the words "Smackdown's Number 1 announcer".
His video is second only to the Dude Love TitanTron video..!

Num-bah ONE!

I was there....When Chris Jericho beat Austin and Rock in the same night to become the first ever Undisputed Champion!
(And for the incredible Eddie/ Edge "no DQ"!!!)

I hope they show it tomorrow. It was hilarious and bringing out the dented chair was a classic touch!

Wow, Homer. You took six silver bullets for me.

I did indeed love the video... my question is, though, is he going to wrestle? I mean, that would be great to have him stick with the announcer gimmick and still be a regular wrestler.
I still miss EVIL! but this will do...

I wonder what Taka thinks of Funaki being # 1 announcer.

What did happen to Taka?

Taka is gone from the WWE, i hear he's running something called the Kaientai dojo back in japan. I have no idea what that is, a faction or a promotion or what. I call upon the puro gods to newsify us!

Does WWE know how to waste talented performers or what?

I've been screaming for more Funaki on Smackdown for weeks. It looks like WWE is finally getting the notion that we dont give a damn how strong Mark Henry is or how many piercings Albert has or whether Billy and Chuck are gay. Like the man said himself:

"Funaki's . . . . . . . . . .okay!"

Which is more than we can say for the aforementioned WWE "superstars".

btw: Taka, I believe, is training wrestlers in Japan. Quite something since he's still pretty young himself.

I think/though Taka ran the K-Dojo promotion over in the Japan indie leagues. I might be right/wrong, but I don't recall him returning to M.Pro or Osaka, but K-Dojo seems below even Dramatic Dream Team on the Japanese Indie promotion totem pole. It would seem that a Taka ran promotion could scrape together enough talent to rise above DDT though. If I am wrong you can correct me/fuck off.

As far as Funaki's mic skillz go, I wish the gimmick would actually lead to evelation of him as a wrestler as well as a personality. The past few Velocities(sp?fuck~) he's been fueding with Albert of all people. Last month it looked like the gimmick could have led to a legit fued with Noble. I (cuz I'm an idiot) began to await the Psicosis-esqe *week-long title reign that would soon disappear from announcers' memories like WCW TV Champion Benoit's was* with baited breath.

They seem to have been planting the seeds for an INEVITIBLE fued with Mark Lllllloyd, and now that Rico has jumped the *Rico/Lloyd/Hardcore Holly latent homosexual heat vis-a-vis Rico's personal attention to Lloyd's appearance sparking Holly's ~jealousy~* can fade from memory. The Funaki/Lllllloyd fued I only want for the unavoidable Lloyd beatdown that pops the crowd like Austin going off on Cole, unintentionally garnering a huge FACE pop when the pasty puffball finally gets what has been coming to him!

remember, Funaki is fluent in english and lives in Texas and is having to "spice up" an accent for his character. I think he's doing a good job

Sucks that Taka got released from WWE.

I read somewhere once that Funaki was good friends with Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Crap...and I thought I was the only Wiener battling this. Actually got over it about a week ago...but that eye's still seeing blurry. (And naturally, it's the eye I shoot with as a photographer.) Suggestions, anybody?

I was praying for Funaki to bust out a tiny bit of offence before being decimated by Lesnar. Just a couple flying moves after being chucked into the corner, then the squish.

Yeah, but Funaki got to show off his selling skills.

When you actually long for the days of Vince Russo, you know you're beyond hope. I also wasn't sure if this should get it's own thread but or not but as of May 31st, Impact is airing an hour earlier at 8pm.
