I think that the WWE is trying to hard to get Kane over in his new role. Kane used to be funny because he was an unfunny guy put in funny situations. Like the stuffed animal machine at the WWF NY. Not only was he waiting in line for his turn, but he also hung his head in shame and disappointment after he failed to win an animal. Then out popped the rage. Or Kane in the kitchen with an apron fixin' himself a big warm bowl of Beefaroni.
The new Kane reminds me of the quiet guy who gets drunk then starts thinking he is Cliff Huxtable with the one liners, Kanearoonis and silly slogans "Freaks are Cool". Not only that he's using stuff like Kanenites. To me his new gimmick is straight out of the early 90's and may get over bnut will get stale REAL quick.
I think that they finally found a way to ruin Kane.
When I think of Kane's lighter side, I think of karaoke... then scooters... then the crane game. It works for me, just because he doesn't look one dimensional, and if there's one wrestler I don't like, it's a one dimensional wrestler!
BUT, BUT, we have enough scary monsters in the WWE. Kane had been playing the same type for years, and he was stale. Before his injury, he was so over that he was stealing the spotlight from The Rock and Hulk Hogan (I know I won't forget the Kane segment from SD where he did the Hogan catchphrases). Now, he comes back and can drop right back into that role, and get more over because of that.
Plus we all know that Kane can more than back it up in the ring, so it seems like a smart idea to me.
FWIW, I thought Big Show was most over when he was showing comedic flair after WM X7 (witness Backlash 2001 for the zenith of Big Show humor goodness).

I agree - Kane was funnier when he a ppeared not to be trying. Wacky Kane ain't funny. Leave trying to be funny to Booker T. Hell, even RVD suprised me at the Raw before the PPV with his delivery.
Are you referring to Show in 2000 with his Showster and Showkishi skits, Torchslasher? At any rate, Big Show is another guy that WWE doesn't really know how to mold.
Kane, in this respect, almost seems no different. I think the reason why Kane's face reactions before his injury were so huge is because, before he left, there was still that notion that Kane was mentally unstable, extremely angry, and essentially a loner. The one thing that'll be key to getting Kane over is to not forsake that big scary monster image. Keep that in the fans' minds, and let his background juxtapose with his current persona. Mix the unintentional comedy with the intentional. And DON'T weaken Kane in-ring wise (which WWE has done a good job of not doing.)
Perhaps Hurricane as his World Tag Team Championship partner can lessen some of the comedy aspect of Kane's character to the point where it doesn't seem too intrusive or counterintuitive to who the Big Red Machine is.
David Crockett sez it best, folks: "Look at 'im, Tony! Look at 'im!"
The Show's impersonations were funny precisely once, when he did the "Showster" bit at Backlash. After that, it was just "Look! Here's the Show in another goofy costume! It's FUNNY!"
While I agree that Kane was trying too hard last night, I'm looking forward to seeing how he and Helms play off each other. They've both been sorta funny on their own, so perhaps they can get some synergy going.
If this gives Kane something to do, fine, but they'd better be careful... Once funny characters cease being funny to focus on the serious, alot of times fans turn on them unless it's done properly.
Kane's a VERY strange character and frankly I haven't a clue how I'd book him at this point.
I just fear the minute the WWF tries to move him into a serious feud it's gonna backfire. I can think of two examples, both involving Mick Foley... One worked, one didn't...
1) Mick was the happy go lucky Mankind and working some VERY funny material at times to make up for the fact he couldn't wrestle from injuries and to protect himself... Then Triple H started messing with him...and Mick felt the need to stand up for himself. The comedy left - Mick turned into Cactus Jack - and we're looking back at a classic angle....
2) Mick Foley was the happy go lucky Commissioner Foley. Steve Austin had just returned and Mick led a "HILARIOUS" search for the driver of the car. Austin took out his rage on everyone, and eventually wound up stuck in a mini-feud with Austin. As the weeks wore on, Mick as a serious character appeared rather annoying and his inconsistency between serious and funny was really noticeable and made him quite dislikable. The fans turned on him and the WWF had to get him off TV as the angle had grown old...
With Kane, I'd unfortunately opt for #2 when he moves to something else, but then I've been wrong enough times before... There's just NOT much else beyond the comedy at this point because he's kinda done just about everything with his character, EXCEPT of course unmasking which in my opinion would be the end of him for good...
The Kane/Hurricane team can be funny without Kane acting too goofy. But it has to be done with precsision. For a comedy team to work, you need at least one goofy guy (Helms) and at least one straight man (Kane). That's what worked well with Booker and Golddust. Goldy acked like a freak, and it was hilarious to see Booker's reaction to his madcap shenanigans. Same with Rock and Sock. Mick would give Rock a birthday party, and Rock would point out "It's not the Rock's birthday!", and it was hilarious. Austin and Angle acted goofy while Vince played the straight man. etc.

See, the other thing that concerns me a bit: Kane's GREATLY expanded speaking roles. One of the things that was so great about the Kane character was how much they were able to do with him as someone who barely spoke. He had to use a lot more body language to get the point across, and Glen Jacobs just nailed it.
Not only was it more creative to work with a silent character (at least for the first few years), Kane is one of those guys who's BEEN over for freakin' years, and they just haven't figured out what to have him DO/where to put him in their who-cares-about-success-we've-got-a-pecking-order-here little world. On a consistent basis, I mean.
So on that basis, why not try funny? They've already shown they'll waste him most of the time in other roles.
On the other hand, another comedic face or tweener isn't what anyone BUT Gerwitz was looking for out of this fed right now, so I can understand the disappointment.
I think you guys might've had a bad childhood, and it's not a not very good adulthood, by the looks of things. --Mick Foley to 'Robot Wars' contestants.

I do confidently predict the Hurricane/Kane tag team storyline ending with an unmasking... I can just see Helms taking his mask off and convincing Kane to do the same. That, or an eventual feud between the partners in a mask vs. mask match. With Mysterio as the referee. Okay, that last part was just a joke.

HEY! Big Show the entertainer RULED! In fact, it was the only REAL time he was actually over. I, for one, will never forget the first appearance of The Showster! And when you think about it, it was the only time we didn't mind seeing Big Show squash Kurt Angle. If Serious Big Show had squashed Kurt Angle cleanly on PPV, we'd have torn WWE a new one. But when The Showster squashed Angle, nobody minded and nobody cared because we were all too busy laughing. In fact, Angle came out of the whole thing completely unscathed. Think about THAT!
I don't know if Komedy Kane can have that same effect, but I like this new incarnation of his. We're witnessing character development, people. And if the fans find Komedy Kane stale, then we've easily planted the seeds for a heel turn. And if this gets The Hurricane on my TV, I'm all for Komedy Kane!
Anybody else hoping for a vignette with Kane hilariously trying to squeeze into the Hurricycle?
"That's right! You suckas better FIND somewhere to run! 'cause it's me - Booker T - not only am I the Scorpion King, but I'm the five-time WCW Champion - and I got a sword, too! Now can U dig THAT - SUCKAAAAAS"
I think the Kane/Hurricane team would work better if Kane was not trying to be "funny." Every comedy man needs a straight man - and there's no better straight man than Kane. Or at least . . . the way Kane *used* to be . . .
"And in front of the entire world, I want to show my little boy that sometimes - just sometimes, you have to FIGHT to be a man." - Michael S. Hickenbottom, the man who does not take part in angles that conflict with his religion, swearing violent revenge on HHH in full view of his two-year-old son. 11:06 PM, EST. 08/05/02. This angle, which has gone from being a "clean" wrestling match to an all-out unsanctioned street fight for bloody revenge is apparently sponsored by the book of Joshua.
Komedy Kane I can live with, because their trying to recreate the Foley magic of '99. What I don't want to see though is another attempt at Sensitive Side Kane, that they had him try with the hideous creature, and then later with Tori.
Thank you Mr. Wanz for the check, now you get an AWA World Title Reign. But be careful, my boy Greg is a heat machine.
I think he is really LAME as the trying-to-be-funny guy. The "freaks" catchphrase is already getting on my nerves and it's like a week old.
Here's an idea. Since he is so weird and mysterious, why not book him like WCW did Sting near the end? Just have him be really creepy, sneaking around, hiding in the rafters-stype stuff. It could work. Especially since he is seen as a loner already. He could be secretly plotting something against Taker or anyone else for that matter.
"You're always 17 in your hometown." - Cross Canadian Ragweed
When did he try to be funny for Crissake? The only time was the Kanearoonie. The "freaks" stuff and kissing Terri is supposed to make him more human and someone to identify with, not funny.
Three Faces of Dean: Teenage Riot, T.R., and now this guy
You see this? You see how my body's glowing like that? Yeah... a lot of people can't do that. Come get some of this glowing. Oh, okay, you. You want some. You want some of the glowing. Look, man... your soul... I'm going to totally floss with it and chew on your spirit. I read that somewhere. But I'll do it.
I'm hoping the new movement for Kane is in an attempt to free up Booker T to move further up the card. If Kane is the "wrestler" with the comedic sidekicks then Booker can take a step up to feud with Y2J or Flair or even HHH. Fine by me.

For some reason, I don't think the WWF/E should start putting guys in the rafters again.

I'll agree one more time then shut up. If Trish joined Evolution, she would not be the eye-candy standing in the ring clapping like the NWO women. Even if she is "just" Trish Stratus, and she's in the ring with HHH and Ric Flair.
