Ok, someone has got to explain this to me. The Florida Gators went out Saturday and whooped up on the #4 Tennesse Volunteer, now granted I realize that Tennesssee had a lot of dumb turnovers, but still Florida kicked their butts. After that run Grossman made he was a new man and was just on fire. They scored 21 points in four minutes, and nearly scored another touchdown in that same four minutes, but it was picked off at the goaline.

So the ESPN/USA Today Poll decides that this win is good enough to move them up......ONE SPOT!! Are you serious?? They beat the number 4 team in the nation! A team that was actually a contender to win it all!

Now I realize that every team ahead of them is undefeated and Florida is not.

But who have these teams played? As a matter of fact look at who these teams played this week while Florida was playing Tennessee.
Miami - Boston College (ok, they're alright)
Texas - Houston
Oklahoma - UTEP
Florida State - Duke
Virginia Tech - Texas A&M (I suppose they are decent)
Ohio State - Cincinnati (and Ohio State nearly beat them)
Georgia - Northwestern St.
Oregon - Portland State

I dont' know about you but to me rankings should based on who has played the best and Florida having a 1 - 1 record against the #1 team in the nation in the #4 team in the nation is more impressive than some of these teams being undefeated against nobodys.

They should atleast me ahead of Oregon (who hasn't played anyone), Georgia (who played an alright South Carolina team but looked awful), Ohio State (i realize they beat Washington State, but they moved them up to number 6, and almost losing to Cincinnati doesn't hurt their ranking?), and Florida State (they've played a few decent teams but nearly and probably should have lost to Iowa State)

What a joke the ESPN/USA today poll is

Florida is lucky they didn't drop out of the Top 15 after the loss to Miami and somehow they moved up 3 spots after a bad performance against Ohio University, so being #9 should not be considered bad. Also, the 'Who have they played argument?' gets damaged because 'Who had the Vols played' to deserve to be #4?'

Thank you Mr. Wanz for the check, now you get an AWA World Title Reign. But be careful, my boy Greg is a heat machine.

None of this is probably going to matter in the long run. If things stay the way they look like they're going to, I say that the Fiesta Bowl is going to be the finals of a Big East/Big 12 mini-tournament with the Texas/Oklahoma winner playing the Miami/Virgnia Tech winner. Those four(IMHO) are the teams that look like they have the shot, though I would be remiss to point out that it would not surprise me if the winner of the Notre Dame/Florida State game had something to say about it too.

As an aside, it is refreshing to see all of these great games this year for once. We've already been treated to Florida-Miami, and still get Notre Dame-FSU, Miami-Tenn., Miami-FSU, and FSU-Florida.

C'mon Quezzy...all they did was beat a team that couldn't even execute a center to QB exchange for three straight plays! They beat a team who's big mouth receiver is too afraid to take a hit ("the future" my ass...I guess that makes Taylor Jacobs "the present")

Seriously though, I think the Gators got the justice they deserved in the AP poll. Thanks for shutting up those Knoxville rednecks for at least the next week.

The ESPN/USAT poll is the MOST CREDIBLE POLL IN ALL THE LAND. It has UGA as the highest-ranked SEC team in the country! GO DOGS~!

[/sarcasm] Polls are stupid, by the way.

They should be out of the top 15 for losing to the number 1 team, and obviously the best team in the country?? Ummm...no.

And yes I realized that Tennessee has not played anyone well either, but they started off the season fourth, i'm not saying these teams should not have gotten the ranking they started with because that is just a guess at how good they will be but when a team beats Tennessee, who is most people's team to win the SEC, they should start moving ahead of the teams that haven't played anyone yet.

And I agree they played horrible, i think they actually fumbled on FOUR straight plays not three, and Kelly Washington? If he is "The Future" then college football must have a much of pussies coming up the next couple years. Was there a single catch where he stayed inbounds?

I can live with the AP poll, I guess, it doesn't make me mad that we're only #9 in the USA Today poll, if we were like 15th and moved up to 9th that's fine, I don't have a HUGE probabaly with being #9, but only moving up one spot after beating #4 seems kind of ridiculous.

Personally, I think Florida's return to the top 10 will be short-lived. They will lose at least 2 more games. In fact, I have a sneaky suspicion that Kentucky may actually have a chance to pull the upset in the Swamp. I still don't think Florida played that well, but obviously they played tons better than Tennessee who stunk up the joint. At this point, I don't think either team deserves to be in the top 10.

But was it ridiculous moving from 13 to 10 by struggling to beat Ohio the week before? Had the voters been smart and kept Florida at 13, then the move to 9 would have made sense. As for the Virginia Tech has a weak schedule argument that has been made, non conference at Texas A+M and home against the defending SEC Champion LSU shoots a hole in the argument.

The polls are pretty meaningless right now. Just wait a month until the BCS standings come out and see how many teams leapfrog for no reason.

The easy, and best, explanation.

Winning is all that matters. If we go by it only matters who you play, then Miami, Ohio State, and Penn State would be the top three based on 1-0 records against (at the time) top ten teams.

Agreed. As a Raider fan, I wish nothing but fiery death upon the Broncos. I'm much more in favor of the Chiefs or Chargers winning the division.
