Pearl Jam absolutely rules ... as a backup band for Neil Young.

I have to say, I lost interest in Pearl Jam after Vitology, but that first single (I Am Mine) is really catchy. It may actually get me to buy the album (okay, probably not).

If nothing else, you have to respect Pearl Jam for (mostly) sticking to their integrity. They've retained their core lineup for 10+ years and are basically the only surviving members of the 90's "Seattle Scene". And after seeing them in 2000, they can still kick it live. Definitely count me as one looking forward to their new material.

HUGE Pearl Jam fan. I can't wait for the new album & tour. They'll be doing the "bootlegs" again.

I'll admit, though, that the names of some of the new songs are a bit...odd.

Anyone wanna give odds on "Bushleaguer" having a subtle (or not) political theme to it?

Pearl Jam are my favourite band (after U2), so I'm really looking forward to Riot Act. It's time for Vedder to get in there and show all these low-voiced numetal wannabes how it's done.

I still don't think that PJ are (or ever really were) "grunge" in the accepted sense. Their last few albums have had more of a classic rock/melodious element to them...Yield is one of the most underrated records of all time.

BTW, Brad (Stone Gossard's other band) has a very good new album out as well.

It's great listening to Binaural months after the first listen. It turns out to be a very good and interesting album, despite the shortcomings. I'm hoping Riot Act eliminates the problems I have with Binaural, mainly the jilted love act that was going on.

EDIT: Wow, when you post at 3 am, you type "novel" instead of "album" so I had the novel idea of correcting it.

They have evolved alot throughout the years and while some albums might be better than others, IMO they all still rule. Every album has one or two songs that just hit the spot for me. I am looking forward to this one.
And damnit, I better see them live this tour.
My show in Holland got canceled as it was 2 days after Roskilde..that so sucked (both what happened there and the cancelling)

Oy...Pearl Jam. Started off great with Ten and have been in constant decline ever since. I completely lost interest after Vitalogy and moved on to other things. Not motivated enough to hate them, but not motivated enough to care.

Pearl Jam is good... I have all their CDs so far. Also, I am from the south, so I by default shouldn't care about

So...you lost interest after Vitalogy. How do you know they're still in decline?

Ive got every studio Pearl Jam LP, and I agree, they've been in a constant decline since Ten. Their music used to be so passionate and intense, but now they sound like just another garage band. That being said, I'll probably still buy the new album, though.

I totally disagree..Ten is the happy go lucky yay lets play these 3 chords and make a riff around it album.
I love it to death, but they have made other great if not better stuff since.

The more recent albums seem lot more personal to me, (i know, black & songs like that are personal too) even though the music has changed alot. More raw and emotional.
Then again, Eddie used to be angry and frustrated in the early years, he seems more balanced now..

ANyways, I think their strength lies on stage, where the emotion really comes across.

My opinion...

If Pearl Jam had kept making videos, doing interviews, TV apperances, and all that industry stuff, they'd be the biggest American rock band going right now. The word 'legend' would be being bandied about on a regular basis.

Or, they would of burned out long ago.
