Ever since his bulked-up comeback, Triple H has appeared to be much slower in the ring. Totally understandable since he had been inactive for a while. But as time passed and he's had more matches, things haven't really changed! I look at his awesome ladder match against the Rock at SummerSlam a few years back, and I wonder where that Triple H has gone...
Watching his last few matches, it seems that the majority of Hunter's offense is now Hogan-styled punches and kicks. (Gimmick infringement?)
And how ironic is it that his new finsher is.... a rest hold...??? haha!

Well, you know how the WWF seems to be moving toward a submission style. With all that bulk, he probably isn't flexible enough to do any other submissions than a sleeper! haha!!

Actually with the sleeper as the Finisher, he's Hogan Lite, name #321 for Ed Leslie.

Thank you Mr. Wanz for the check, now you get an AWA World Title Reign. But be careful, my boy Greg is a heat machine.

transformation complete? His girlfriend has him turning every other week Heel/Face etc. I think even the WWE has lost track on his turns.

I had always heard that guys don't like to job to submission holds because it makes their character look weak since they willingly gave up or were knocked out. I think submissions are cool, especially when I guy pulls it out of nowhere, but H going to the sleeper hold makes me think of... AH POLITICS.

Or maybe not.

I'm all for submission wrestling, but using The Sleeper as a finisher on a regular basis these days is pretty weak.

Has HHH even used it that often? I only remember this last time.

Well, to be honest, I'm thinking of Chris Benoit at the moment, he was submission wrestling before submission wrestling was cool.

What show are you watching? I haven't seen this new WWF submission style. So a couple of guys have added some lousy lame submission moves, i'd hardly say that the WWE is now going into some submission style show.

Hey Yo...

Actually, Triple H's style has always been slow and from the less is more philosohpy of grappling (see Flair and Steamboat). I watched that ladder match just this weekend and his pace was slow then.

Also, he was a lot slower and bigger upon his return to the Rumble and 'Mania. He's bulked down a bit less since then. Plus, I think he's got whatever form of "it" back. He's been pretty good lately. At least as good as he was back when he faced Foley, Angle, Benoit etc. and was everyone's god.

I kind of enjoy Trips lately (since his return from his arm injury) and hope he can have a good run, yet again. Although, it probably doesn't matter, all anyone seems to care about are fake internet reports about him holding Jericho down and what he does behind closed doors to Stephanie. Call me crazy, RAW isn't my favorite show, but when it was bad Triple H has been a bright spot.

Doesn't calling these reports "fake" imply some level of intimate backstage knowledge? Because you don't think it's happening, or don't care either way, you are suddenly able to declare them "fake"? Hey Mr. Pot, I hear Mr. Kettle calling.

I think he is trying to be Austin with his "I am on my own side" attitude.

I do agree with you on his turns. There have been so many it is getting annoying.

His transformation into Hulk Hogan is complete with a side order of Piper or Beefcake thrown in for the sleeper finish.

I don't what submission style wrestling is, but I have noticed more faces losing to submission in the last few months. Hogan to Brock, Rock to Benoit, RVD to Y2J, Rey to Angle, Rikishi to Benoit, and probably more. This is a new trend, and i bet you can go back two years or so and not find five instances where a high level face tapped out. It just rarely happened until recently.

RawLo, that is a good point. Not only is HHH using the Piper sleeper but he(HHH) also speaks like Piper.

but you also made a good point,cajunMan- they keep switching HHH from face to heel and back again. It's understandable, because the fans will still give a face pop when his music hits. I thought the sledgehammer to HBK would get him more heel reactions, but it hasn't really worked!

It's always seemed to me that HHH's ``boring'' offense (i.e. the knee moves, the punchypunchykickykicky, etc.) seem to be far more prevalent when he's playing heel. He also adopts a more, ``I'm going to take this guy apart piece by piece,'' pace as well.

To me this is good heel psychology. The more moves you do that pop the crowd (i.e. DudleyBoyz ``wazzup'' spot) the more likely you are to be cheered. Ditto for the house-a-fire pace of guys like RVD. A heel shouldn't just beat up the face, he should make the crowd hate him for doing it. Using ``boring'' (but effective) offense and a deliberate pace is part of what I think makes HHH and effective heel.

Of course, now that I've just called HHH an effective heel I've blown any cred I had...

how come you're so afraid of things that dont make any sense to you? do you water your raisins daily? do you have any raisins? is there anything that does make sense to you? are you afraid of twelve button suits? how come you're so afraid to stop talking?

I think when he does the boring offense (even as a heel), he gets "X-Pac sucks" heat... not heel heat!

I agree completely with Tarnish. As to the "X-pac Sucks" heat thing, well, during his heel run in 2000, I hated Triple H with a passion. I wanted him to lose every match and for him to be booted off my tv screen. Do I think this is a bad kind of heat for him to have? No, I think it's a great kind. If the HHH can make us all hate him sooooo much, and then he finally gets his comeuppance, we'll all cheer and mark out. The problem is, nobody has gotten the best of him (save Shawn Michaels) in a loooooong time.

-Jag

/edit: Add this as well.

Part of the reason that Triple H hasn't gotten what's coming to him, is that his last run as a heel was cut short by injury. He was out before we got to see Jericho/Benoit truly destroy him (though they did win the tag belts that night). Then he came back as a face, and had a horrible face run that gave him Rocky Maivia heat. Now he's finally a full-on heel again, and they need to build someone to finally give him what's coming to him that's been two years in the making.

I object to him talking for 20 minutes each week while wrestlers are given five minutes to wrestle. The promos are secondary to the ring action, and he doesn't wrestle on 'free' TV but once in a blue moon. He's a great heel between the bells.
