Some other posts in this forum have discussed this a bit. I'm curious as to what other fans think.

In the past few weeks, we've seen "WHAT!" pop up everywhere and in everyone's promo. Wrestlers like Triple H, the Rock, and Chris Jericho have finally overcome this problem, and just about no one is chanting the idiot chant during their promos. In the meantime, guys like Kurt Angle and Lance Storm are besieged by "WHAT!" Neither of these guys are in a feud with Austin, nor does it appear likely that they will be anytime soon.

Why? What is is that Triple H and Jericho have and are doing that Storm and Angle are not?

Angle actually acknowledges the chants, so fans keep doing it to get on his nerves.

Others just ignore them, and the chants go away.

Yeah, Angle fed off the chants which is good and bad. HHH does not have that problem because he does not let the crowd get into a groove using that chant but also he has the fans respect as well. Jericho, well, I think after the SD! promo which was probably his best ever, does not acknowledge the fans thus taking the steam out of the chant and it dies down. Angle probably wont be able to get that kind of reaction for a while since he did acknowledge the fans. He is kinda screwed. LOL

Angle has been planning his interviews around the "whats?" lately. He brings it on himself.

Triple H and Jericho haven't really given the fans a chance to "what?" they just ignore it.

But Lance...I have no real clue why they keep doing it during his. Unless they just really like ticking off Storm...or the fans are smarter than we realize and have read his recent commentaries.

Angle should say" Sphincter Says What"???
Crowd Responds with What
Angle repeats Sphincter says What???
Crowd What
Angle says exactly

Unfortunately Kurt needs all the heat he can get because without the what chants to play off of he is in NO mans Land on that roster...

All the heels are going to get hit with it at some point. I was (I'll admit, pleasantly) surprised when HHH was met with a WHAT? wave at first, before he, like Jericho before him, just pushed right past it and got the crowd to move on. I think even Flair may have gotten a "WHAT?" from the crowd in place of a "WHOOOO!" during some chops. Unless I'm wrong, though, the crowd hasn't even seemed to consider the possibility of hitting The Rock with a "WHAT?" Now that's popularity.

Well I think this isnt going away anytime soon. As a catchphrase "What" is pretty new, therefore every venue they go to, the crowd will want to participate. Seeing as the WWF only goes to some cities once a year. We could be hearing "WHAT" well into 2003.

I am hoping some city decides to do that to Rock, just to see him go nuts on them. I'm sure you'd reduce the What chants to zero reaction. Of course, if we didn't have an incoming NWO invasion, I would think Rock vs Austin at Wrestlemania would be a given in storyline sense since its one year later and Rock has to get this Boston Red Sox jinx at WM over with.

A Fan- Unfortuantly, NWO will encompass all.

Well if it's really a Red Sox jinx then he shouldn't ever get over it.

As for HHH, they can't say what during his interview because he fills in the pauses of his interviews with his grunting.

Ah ha. I wasn't sure if this was one of those "wacky Japanese" situations. Personally, I'm a fan of the Half-Nelson Suplex, but the Exploder is also a close second. EXPLODAH!!! ++
