(I'd just paste the text of the article, but you really need the pictures to go along with it to get the full effect. You can tell the gestapo must've been fearing for their lives in #2, huh?)

Okay, your message pissed me off. Now what?

Oh, you probably meant THE STORY was supposed to piss me off.

Man I can't WAIT until I have children, because the first thing I'm going to do is TAKE THEM TO A PROTEST!

AP wire copy (thanks to the Miami Herald):

There were clues the demonstration could get nasty on the Web sites of groups involved.

Preparations for the protest were posted on the Internet as early as Aug. 7 and continued constantly under such headings as "Tear gas canisters cause severe thermal burns," "Bush to visit beautiful Portland in August, you should too," and "What happens if you're arrested for civil disobedience?"

How about a little common sense, huh? How about a little personal responsibility? DON'T WILLINGLY PLACE YOUR BABY IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION.

You know, the fact that apparantly it's considered a "dangerous situation" to try and criticize the president is pretty fucked up.

No,Its not a dangerous situation to protest the president. Its the protest all together.

Almost everyone of these things in the same way. People get wild and they get sprayed and what not.

So they decide to take little Chester with them,he and his parents gets sprayed and they put it on a web page about how President Bush hates children or some crap in that vain.

No,It doesn't make me mad because they deserved what happened to them for BRINGING THEIR KID TO A FUCKING PROTEST IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!!!!!

I'm a little confused about what's supposed to piss me off. The police set up areas for the protesters. Then they decide they want to leave those areas and get rowdy so the police use non lethal methods to try to disperse them before things turn real violent. Then some A-hole who brought a BABY to a protest gets gassed. You're right, it does piss me off. That clown needs to be investigated by whatever child services group has jurisdiction where he lives. But given how crazy protesters get, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if they deliberately brought the baby with the knowledge they'd get in a violent situation just so they could post their pictures on their little leftist webpages and say "look! the Bush government is the Gestapo!" But how seriously can anyone be taken who calls the cops who stand in the face of hundreds of protesters "cowards" because they were body armor to protect themselves? It's never an even fight when you have hundreds of rabid civilians riled up in a mob frenzy against a small group of police officers who not only have to watch out for their own safety, but have to be careful not to hurt any civilians for fear of the leftists in the press putting out "shocking" photos.

But hey, to quote the article's alleged quote of a police officer: "that's why you shouldn't bring kids to protests". No truer words have ever been spoken.

I'm assuming none of you have either a) been to a protest or b) been a cop assigned to guard a protest. Much to my chagrin, I have been to some of the "hippy, Lefty protests, (though strictly as a legal observer)" and let me tell you, there is no less dangerous bunch of people in the world. I mean, the French police could take these guys.

You really think it's OK for Police to say "OK, you can all stay here, but if you move outside of your assigned area we'll gas and shoot you?" If NOBODY was allowed outside the area you might have an arguement, but I don't think it's very American to have a "people who like the president over here to cheer him on, people who don't over here where Gerogie can't see them" policy. Plus, it makes the President look like a pussy.

I hate to say it, but it sounds like the police were in the right here. According to the AP wire (which I will take as a reliable news source), buildings were grafitied and people who were actually attending the event (who all were important people, I would guess) were being barred entry by the protesters. That doesn't exactly sound like a peaceful demonstration, nor do these sound like "hippies", though they are leftists. I've seen what can happen when people get out of hand (I was visiting a friend at Purdue and a riot broke out. Long story short, it ended up sucking a lot. And I had the bruises to prove it).

Plus, the point about the protesters being where Bush couldn't see them is moot, because he was IN A BUILDING where the fundraiser was being held, and the protesters were outside the building, which makes a hell of a lot of sense to me ("Yes you protesters come and sit at table 6, but don't raise your signs too high or the people behind you won't be able to see").

I was under the impression that they wanted to stand closer to where he was coming in and out, and weren't allowed to.

Maybe that guy wasn't the brightest in the world, but you really shouldn't have to be worried about being peppper sprayed when you're exercising your constitutional rights.

This goes back to 2 principles:

1) The Supreme Court established centuris ago that though the government cannot keep you from exercising your right to free speech, it can determine the place and time at which you do so.

2) Bad things happen to idiots.

Speaking of retards. I walk home through Times Square every day EXCEPT for this Thursday because of the NFL Times Square kickoff special. 43rd to 47th and 6th to 8th Streets will be blocked off.

Someone should protest that.

Yeah, well she put herself in harm's way didn't she? SHe got herself mixed up with a bunch of low-life thugs from the Professional Kvetching Class(TM Rich Galen). Look, people can protest all they want...PEACEFULLY protest that is. The Professional Kvetching Class that was in Portland is a bunch of organized thugs who go from place to place protesting agaisnt capitalism, and freedom, and business, and economic growth, and helping developing countries with new technology and food sources. The eat tofu, bathe in granola, don't wear deodorant, vote for Nader, go to environmental protests driving in their smog-producing Vanagon's. They loiter, littler, pollute, and vandalize, making life hell for innoncents. Of course, reading some of their rhetoric they are a bunch of delusion, classless, brainless fucks anyway.

In short, they are WORTHLESS since they produce nothing but trobule to society.

And save me the tears on the baby. Any parent who is so fucking STUPID as to bring a child to such an event doesn't deserve to raise a child. Nobody should be so stupid as to put a child in harm's way.

I'm sorry for this profanity laced tirade but inane stupidity and left-wing bullshit drives me up the wall. Especially when people complain about vandals doing something stupid to draw police attention to themselves.

The Professional Kvetching Class can go fuck themselves.

Thats so true.

Just because you go to college doesn't mean you have to protest EVERYTHING!!!!!!

We all know protesting doesn't lead to anything except bad things. They should focus more on school so they can become part of the goverment and change it themselves.

But probably by that time they'll probably be turned into capitalist fatcats theirselves.

And with that "GAP" shirt on he wouldn't know anything about being a conformist or feeding in to capitalism, would he?

It skinda the way it goes. Capitalism benefits the smartest and the fastest. So the one it doesn't benefit go out and protest (i.e. the slow and stupid).Really makes you stop and think. I've seen enough protests to make me want to join the young Republicans (*shudder*).

Protesting as a way of life isn't any different than capitalism or corporate America or Communism or any other kind of thing people might throw around - they're all belief systems. Just so happens that protesting is one where you can adequately explain why you're broke and unhireable.

Both, probably. The Daily Show last night talked about how the US Senate Select Committe on Intelligence released its final reports on the administration's build up to Iraq. TDS also made a note of how no one was talking about that.
