Isn't Raw and Smackdown split in who writes for each show? If so, wouldn't this be more indicative of the better quality show then the specific wrestlers? Sure Smackdown has the better matches locked up, but Raw isn't too far behind with the right guys elevated or featured.
I see people writing all about how the wrestlers are more compelling and in better feuds and storylines on Smackdown. Yet the answer is to do MORE brand shifting? It seems to me that the RAW writers are doing an inferior job to the Smackdown crew.
Even if Raw was given Angle, I don't think it would improve the non-match portions of the show much. It seems pretty apparent to me that people have to address the Raw writers and put the fear of Vince into them, because the WWE is becoming lopsided.
Post your thoughts if you want, I'm just pontificating really.
There's supposedly a separate group of writers for Raw and Smackdown. The head writer of Smackdown is Paul Heyman and head writer of Raw is Brian "Comic Book Guy" Gerwitz.
Some of the worst Raws in years are all coming under the Gerwitz era. He REALLY needs to be canned, but he's a Friend of Stephanie, so he isn't going anywhere.
There have been a couple of lackluster Smackdowns, but Heyman knows WRESTLING, so workrate is hardly ever an issue. The only problem with Heyman is that he's not writing ways for guys to get over beyond their wrestling. Guys like Randy Orton, John Cena, and Shannon Moore are just BORING! Please Paul, if they aren't getting gimmicks, then give them some decent sportz entertainment to get them over.
"That's right! You suckas better FIND somewhere to run! 'cause it's me - Booker T - not only am I the Scorpion King, but I'm the five-time WCW Champion - and I got a sword, too! Now can U dig THAT - SUCKAAAAAS"
I think Heyman is doing a good job actually. Give him time to develop characters for Cena, Orton and Girl-Boy.
If you remember, many of the stars of today, used to be young guys with minimal gimmicks, stuck without much match time and happy just to appear on the show.
Austin was the Ring Master,Rocky Mavia(sp?) was pretty weak, and Edge may have had promo lead up, but he was fairly indistinct. Just to name a few.
Gerwitz seems to need a demotion (If the 'facts' are at all accurate), and I wonder who should replace him. Shane? Taylor? Who knows, If I were the WWE I would look at the untapped resource, wrestling fans in the writing industry.
"I became the first ever Euro-continental champion in WWF history. Well, besides D-Lo Brown, but he doesn't count."- Kurt Angle
Demoting Gewitz would be a start, but the only way to kill the bad writing beast is to cut off its head. And as long as the head is Vince's little princess, the writing will not improve greatly.
Thank you Mr. Wanz for the check, now you get an AWA World Title Reign. But be careful, my boy Greg is a heat machine.
Heyman is doing a very good job on Smackdown right now. He understands the nuances of getting people over very well. Yes, the shows are not perfect. But, they are better scripted and seem to have a purpose to everything that happens. A logical progression if you will. Dean did a very good job in his report last week of describing how Hayman books Smackdown.
Cena, Orton, and Moore are to green to the WWE and should be kept in their current roles. Let them learn the ropes and allow a character for each to develop over time. There is no need to rush and have them get stuck in a character that does not fit them.
The older, more established wrestlers like Edge, Eddie, Angle, and Benoit are shown as equals to one another fighting to take that one step up the ladder.
These commercials are superfine because they pay for the production costs of putting CHRIS MOTHERFUCKING BENOIT on my GODDAMN TV SCREEN! I will GO GREYHOUND! I am thinking OUTSIDE THE BUN! – Dean Rasmussen 8/1/2002 Smackdown Workrate Report

I disagree about Orton/Cena/Moore are boring. They just need to be even MORE fine tuned. Plus, Orton's starting to really come into his own on Velocity (even though it's STILL the Hardcore Holly/Rico and ChuckaBilly show). Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing Cena/Moore on Velocity more. Great way to get them some storylines without the pressure of being on a main show and a pay per view.
A friend of mine's sister's cousin saw Benoit walking through an airport.
Me: Was he selling? He shouldn't have been if he was. I mean it IS just an airport.
IIRC, the knock on Gewirtz is that he's easily influenced by whoever the lead wrestler(s) is at the time. For example, Kevin Nash supposedly had a lot of influence over Gewirtz before he hurt himself again that last time.
