These are the non-playing baseball folks being considered for the Hall of Fame. The Screening Committee weeds it down to 15 names. The Veteran's Committee then decides if it wants to induct any of them.

See if you can find the name that I found really entertaining. And if you need a hint - Click Here

I thought the big joke was putting Dick "In Hand" Williams on the list. None of these names belong in the Hall, as if Sutton and Neikro didn't water the thing down enough. Who's next, Tony Fossas?

I'd personally like to see the White Rat in. Was a great baseball man, manager of the decade(awarded by SI) in the 80s..

Well, Fossas should have to wait for entrance to the hall at least until Amos Otis is eligible.

But Fossas owned Griffey in his prime, almost like Dick Radatz owned the Mick. I mean, Griffey even used to bunt because of the greatness of Tony Fossas.

George W. Bush?

There are a few in there who should be considered. Here's my 15:

Doug Harvey
Dick Williams (should already be there)
August Busch
Lee Weyer
Billy Martin
Danny Murtaugh
Fred Haney
Whitey Herzog
Bob Howsam
Bill Rigney
Chris Von der Ahe
Charlie Dressen
Steve Palermo is interesting

Can't find any more though

I can understand Bush only because he broke a tradition among owners. Instead of going to Federal Prison, he leads the Federal Government.

I personally think Herzog should have a decent chance to get in. King of the small ball... Whitey ball is what made the cards great in the 80's.

Granted, the Cards were in the Series twice in the 80's, but do you really think that they were "great in the 80's"? Because Whitey brought his team to the Series twice, does that really give him a decent shot? I guess Joe Torre, Cito Gaston, Bobby Cox, and Tony LaRussa are shoo-ins then, huh?

Steve Palermo? Because he was shot trying to do something good? Was he one of the games great and prominent figures? Did he change the game for the better?

Danny Murtaugh? Just because he teamed with Riggs to kill Mr. Joshua? He is too old for this shit.

Billy Martin? Puhleeze. I am a die-hard Yankee fan, and he should have to get in line behind Munson, Guidry, Donnie Baseball, and Nettles for starters.

Chris Von der Ahe? He brought a baseball team back to St. Louis. Whoop-de-damn-doo.

Lee Weyer? Tell him to get in line behind Ron Luciano.

Dick Williams had his dick in his hand in public. Aren't we supposed to only do that in private? That's what my pappy told me, anyway. Who knows what this guy would take out of his pants at his induction speech? The front row in Cooperstown better have one of those "Gallagher-type tarps" to cover up with.

George Bush should be in the Baseball Hall of Fame...

...right next to Roseanne Barr, Steve "Shut up, Douchebag" Lyons, Mel Rojas, Cecil Fielder's left buttock, and Marge Schott's dirty diapers.

Hey, don't be badmouthing Amos Otis. He was a hellavu a ballplayer. He's not HOF caliber, but he was a terrific player. Not quite in the same class as Tony Fossas, I must say.

    ****Torre, Cox and LaRussa, yes.

****I just said he was interesting.

Danny Murtaugh? Just because he teamed with Riggs to kill Mr. Joshua? He is too old for this shit.

****Um, what? 1960,1971 and some division champs. A fine manager for a number of years.

Billy Martin? Puhleeze. I am a die-hard Yankee fan, and he should have to get in line behind Munson, Guidry, Donnie Baseball, and Nettles for starters.

****Also took the Twins, Tigers and A's places. An easy managerial choice.

Chris Von der Ahe? He brought a baseball team back to St. Louis. Whoop-de-damn-doo.

****Read a little about what the man did before you comment.

Lee Weyer? Tell him to get in line behind Ron Luciano.

****Luciano was never as good as Weyer IMO.

****Williams' managerial record speaks for itself.

****Torre, Cox and LaRussa, yes.

### None are shoo-ins, except maybe Torre, and Cito Gaston, in 5 seasons up in Toronto, won 4 divisions, a second place finish, and two World Chamionships. Same results as Herzog while Whitey was in Saint Louis, and in how many less seasons?

Steve Palermo? Because he was shot trying to do something good? Was he one of the games great and prominent figures? Did he change the game for the better?

****I just said he was interesting.

### You said "is interesting", but you put him on a list of people to be considered for enshrinement into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Think about that. Did you ever look at Steve Palermo as an umpire (or anything else), and say: "Wow, what would the game be like without Palermo? He is one of the best ever in what he does!" I trust you didn't.

Danny Murtaugh? Just because he teamed with Riggs to kill Mr. Joshua? He is too old for this shit.

****Um, what? 1960,1971 and some division champs. A fine manager for a number of years.

### My comments were in jest (see Lethal Weapon), but as far as Murtaugh as a manager? See Cito Gaston.

Billy Martin? Puhleeze. I am a die-hard Yankee fan, and he should have to get in line behind Munson, Guidry, Donnie Baseball, and Nettles for starters.

****Also took the Twins, Tigers and A's places. An easy managerial choice.

### An easy managerial choice? I don't know about easy. If it was easy, he would have his plaque. Legitimate, sure. I was admittedly quite hasty in my earlier comments.

Chris Von der Ahe? He brought a baseball team back to St. Louis. Whoop-de-damn-doo.

****Read a little about what the man did before you comment.

### I am sure he was a good man who did many good things. HOF worthy, doubtful. If no one has recognized his contributions in the last 100 years, why now? Are we trying to meet quotas for The Hall?

Lee Weyer? Tell him to get in line behind Ron Luciano.

****Luciano was never as good as Weyer IMO.

### He wasn't, I would think, but you have to be careful about enshrining umpires (after Jocko Conlan), and Lee Weyer can't possibly be near the top of anyone's list of people who deserve to be in The Hall. Being better than Luciano is nothing to write home about, but Luciano was a guy who people appreciated, on a Bob Uecker level - one of those guys who might not have made the game better, but helped some enjoy it more. I can remember watching some of his calls (how often do people remember an umpire's call?) when he screams OUT!OUT!OUT!OUT!OUT!OUT! while using his arms as a machine gun. When I was a kid at Yankee Stadium watching that, I wanted to be an umpire. I don't remember anything about Lee Weyer even though I must have seen him 1000 times.

****Williams' managerial record speaks for itself.

### So does the fact that he was waving around his genitalia in a public place. Does his dick get a separate plaque?

I am impressed and amazed that people here know the name Chris von der Ahe. That is some serious obscurity. All I know about him was that he was like the 1980's maniacal version of Steinbrenner... in, if I remember correctly, the 1870's. Have they ever put in a guy who has been dead for this long? I'm really surprised they even knew who the guy was, much less nominated him, even if he is deserving. Who is on this Screening Committee again?

Putting non-players in is always semi-lame, unless it's an obvious choice like Casey Stengel or whatever. But...

Umps: As I recall, Harvey was by far the most respected ump of his era, so he would be a good choice. No need to look any further at umps until he gets in.
Managers: Herzog is an all-time great manager IMHO and should be in. Dick Williams and Mauch fall just short, and I don't think Billy Martin belongs because he was never able to keep a team good for more than about a year.
Owners: I'd put Charles Finley in. It won't happen because he was a jerk and a major flake, but he was innovative (I won't mention his biggest innovation here for fear of an evolution-like argument :-) and put some good teams out there. As for guys who basically just owned a team for a long time, who cares? I don't even know how to evaluate that.
Other: Marvin Miller, a legal genius who made the players' union the force it is, should be in, but it's gonna depend on who's on the panel because he is a controversial figure.

I think the logic is that you can only be elected by the BBWAA after you've been retired for 5 years, and within 20 years of being retired. Once that time frame is past, you can only be elected by the Veteran's Committee.
