Not that I play RPGs anymore, cause, you know, I try to pretend like my life has meaning now, but I have totally been searching the net for ANY piece of original art from one of the old AD&D Monster Manuals and can't find anything. This was one of the most fun things I remember from my role playing days and indulging this bit of nostalgia has escaped me so far. Does TSR (or whoever owns D&D now) send Alan Dershowitz after any net fan with any of this art on their personal web pages or what? Why is it so hard to find, and is there any kind of "black market" web page where you can view any of it?

Your best bet is to get ahold of one of these manuals and go through the art credits, (or do a vague search on google for the pictures you remember) and try to locate the personal site of the artist in question. Original art is USUALLY returned to the artist in most forms of publication, who then has the option of selling it for more money.

For example.. if you are looking for Elmore, you can find him at http://www.larryelmore.com/ and he often has a booth at related cons selling prints and such.

Those original Monster Manuals ruled. And then with the second edition they took out the nudity (hey i was in junior high and high school; I loved that stuff). I wish I had friends now who play since I miss that game. If you find any links to the art would you mind posting them back here? I'd love to see whatever turned up.

Its good to know I'm not the only one who misses shit like this. You rule!

EDIT: I'm not making fun. I'm being serious.

I was going to scan some images from the Monster Manual I last night when I found out I no longer have them. They must be at my parents house. Oh well. If anyone still wants, I'll pick them up next time I'm down there and scan some pics for posting. I do beleive they are first prints of the first edition.

That would be cool Bizzle, but if I were you I would keep them on Wienerville only. From all I can gather, it seems the company really goes after gamers and others for scanning those pics and putting them on web-sites. Just be careful.

(P.S. How could we use some of those as user pics? If possible, could I put in a request that you scan the yeti picture? That was always one of my favorites.) :)

Yeti from the first edition Monster Manual or second edition Monstrous Compendium? If you want the second edition pic, I can grab it next weekend, no problem... I'm going to my parents' house and had planned on going through the old collection anyway (I may break down and get a mall job at Wizards of the Coast). I never owned the first edition books, though.

I don't think I've seen the yeti from the second edition compendium, if I have I have largely forgotten it. Another one of my favorites from the first edition was the wereboar. The golems were cool too.
