Everyone can agree, I'd think, that the Radicals jumping to WWF was a big deal. However, the thing that gets me is who was in this group. Dean Malenko: very technically proficent but 0% charisma in the ring. Eddie Guerrero, a very talented guy, always a pleasure to watch. Chris Benoit, generally considered to be one of the best. However, I've always been a fan of the fourth member of the group, since I first saw him in WCW.

What about Perry Saturn? Was he really that good? The fact that it was four people making the jump was a nice round number, but talent-wise could Perry hold up his end? If he had jumped seperately would it have been a big deal based on his ability? And should he be given some kind of a push, however small? What I guess I'm asking is, how good is he, and is the WWE wasting a potentialy valuable guy here(assuming he could get past the "Moppy" albatross?

I put in the pirate icon because it seemed very Perry-esque, as it were. :-)

First off Malenko has no charisma outside the ring. I don't care what anyone says, the guy almost got a five star match out of Scotty Too Hotty. Now THAT'S in-ring charisma.

As for Saturn, in my mind he's the least pushable of the four members. He's weird lookin' for one (bald headed, white goateed, cross-eyed way, not the "he's a superstar" way), he's got no mic skills (except when he screamed "I hope he tries somethin'!" about Austin attacking Benoit, I laughed out loud at that one) and in-ring he's very...stiff.

I think Saturn is just as good as any of the other three Radicalz when it comes to wrestling, he can go with pretty much anybody. The thing that hurt Saturn, I think, was he 1. got held down by a too over stupid gimmick that got old real quick and 2. he beat up Mike Bell and some other guy on Jakked. Now, the second instance wasn't that bad because the guy refused to job to Saturn, so Saturn applied the submission for real. But, in the first instance, Mike Bell could have been crippled (Saturn threw him to the outside of the ring for real and the guy landed on his damn head) and that ain't good. Saturn's got a temper. And besides that guys who can wreslte well aren't the heart of the WWE product. It's guys with charisma who can talk, be funny (soemtimes) and carry a storyline and, yeah, do that whole wrestling thing. Although I'd venture to say that the roster is the best wrestling-wise it's ever been and may ever be again.

As for what to do with him? Fire him. Let him go to NWA. I like Saturn but he's going nowhere fast in the WWE.

You may REALLY want to try to get your facts straight in the future....

Bell NEVER refused to job, and Saturn NEVER tried to cripple him.

The initial plan was for Saturn to be paired up with Hugh Morris and given a big push in the tag ranks (trying to recreate a bit of the Eliminators magic), but then he got hurt and they put Morris on Tough Enough III, and put the tag belts on RAW, and now the whole thing seems like a moot point.

The facts are, Mike Bell didn't refuse to job. He accidently punched Saturn for real, then Saturn punched him for real. Followed by him throwing Bell on his freakin' HEAD outside the ring.

The second guy, wouldn't job to Saturn and so Saturn applied some standing arm scissor as the guy screamed in pain and tapped quicker than anyone I've seen. That and Saturn let go as the guy laid there crying and holding his arm, and Saturn made a hasty exit. I'm going back and changing it, because I can see how you could get confused, though.

Sounds like it could've been a pretty badass team and worked very well, if given the right opposition. But they probably would've worked best as a heel team, so the right face combo would need to be found. Not the Hardyz. Maybe Mark Henry and D-Lo Brown?(Said half in jest becuase I hate Mark Henry, but the sizes might match up and it could've given a push for D-Lo.

Bummer. I like the sound of a Saturn/Hugh Morris tag team.

I've always been a fan of perry saturn, right back to his days in Raven's Flock (never saw him in the Eliminators with Kronus, but I've heard good things). I think if used correctly he could be a decent mid-carder. He's a quality wrestler who can grapple, do some high-flyin', and has a decent and smooth moveset. However, he needs to be kept away from the horrible comedy gimmicks he's been saddled with. Moppy was less fun and less well done than Chavo with Pepe the horse. However, most wrestling fans have very short memories and he could easily be repackaged. Bobby the Brain used to call him a wild man reminiscent of Mad Dog Vachon, and I'd like to see him get a shot in that sort of role.

If not, release him and let him go to japan or NWA--don't waste him just sitting there in limbo.

BTW when was the last time he wrestled on a WWE tv show?

I've suggested it before in another thread: Steph needs some muscle, someone to enforce her will. A more benign version of Three Minutes, perhaps. Why not make Perry that guy? He already has a good relationship with Benoit and Eddie for a heel edge as would befit a "tweener" like Steph.
If you need another guy, put Albert in there, for a tag-team . Both of them have done ok in teams, and it would hide their weaknesses. And you wouldn't have to work to make them look alike. :-)

I think they had the right idea (or at least a glimmering of it) with the way they seemed to be going after that first "shoot" incident. He was still "goofy" Perry Saturn, but he slipped into "brutal" mode at the drop of a hat. I think that'd be key to getting him over: he really looks like a guy who would have zero qualms about doing horrible, horrible things to you for next to no reason.

He wouldn't even really have to win any matches. Have him wrestle, be vicious, lose his temper and go nuts on his opponent until they stopped the match and dq'ed him. He wouldn't really have to talk, because the only reason he'd need to give would be "because" or "why not?"

Have him do that for a bit, get someone's attention who "hires" him as an enforcer/bodyguard type. He'd be sort of feud-less, but he wouldn't need one really.

Hey, Moppy got more signs in the crowd than Saturn had through his stint in the fed through that point. I liked it, as well!

All you need is time. When I see Chavo now, I don't think of his horse stick thing.

Incorrect. What happened was Bell botching a hiptoss and dropping Saturn at a dangerous angle. To pay him back, Saturn gave him a receipt by working snug. After the match, there were no hard feelings.

I always considered Saturn the ultimate mid-carder. In fact, the only time he appeared near 'over' to me was right after his "Loser Wears A Dress" series with Jericho. He lost to Jericho, put on a dress, and got semi-over in the process. Since then, he's gone downhill.

I'm not a big proponent of seeing him on my TV again, but the idea of Saturn/Morrus as a team does sound worth a look.

IMO, Saturn's always been best as a tag team wrestler. His best work was with Kronus (as the Eliminators) and with Raven and Benoit in 1999. Find the right partner, and you could have a hot tag team easily.

Not true. Saturn was hugely over during the angle where he got angry at Raven and left the Flock. He then went on to wrestle Raven in a match to free the Flock. This is where Kidman really started to get over, and so was Saturn. In fact, at the time it was the most over angle in WCW.

Kanyon started hanging round Raven, and they filmed about half a dozen "At home with Raven" skits but only ended up airing about 3 or 4.

The original plan was to have Kanyon and "the new" Raven as a tag team, and eventually have Saturn join to make a Triad.

That said, this was canned and was replaced by the Jersey Triad of Kanyon, DDP, and Bam Bam Bigelow. Which dissapeared suddenly (Bischoff went on an anti-tag team power trip), leaving Kanyon, Saturn, Bigelow, and Raven sitting around doing a whole heap of nothing.

The Flock, which included Saturn, was very over at various points (especially compared to other heels like the nWo B team, Horace Hogan, Total package, etc.) and yet it never got a serious push!

When the Radicalz initially debuted, was there a plan for a Perry/Eddie tag team? If you think of the matches on the Smackdown with the f'd up frog splash, it was Malenko/X-Pac, NAO/Saturn and Guerrero and HHH/Benoit. Looking back, it could easily have been set-up for than duo going after the tag titles with Malenko and Benoit after the LW and IC belts respectively.
