I know the right-wingers on here will defend it (or find some way to talk about Clinton), and will most likely say that I hate America for even bringing up this topic, but how in the hell can that unelected schmuck justify taking a *month* off, in the middle of a war and a recession?

Is there any reason to start a ridiculously long thread that really goes nowhere again? Because really, is anyone's point of view going to be changed by what's posted in respose to you?
Bush just gave a speech a few hours ago at Mt. Rushmore. Kind of like he's been doing since his working "vacation" started. yeh, some vacation. I guess that "schmuck" doesn't know what a real vacation is. It means you don't work. As in, don't go out as president and make speeches. But I don't expect a left winger to understand it if they still call him "unelected".
In other news: Bush is probably worn out from all the hard work he's been doing, like . . . um. I dunno. Signing laws that really should have been passed years ago, before corporation's lying caught up to them.
You're all so WONDERFUL. Why did they ever have to remove you from the continuity? You'd have made for MARVELOUS stories. You WILL make marvelous stories. And the FIRST story of the new world will be a story of REVENGE! -- The Psycho Pirate, Animal Man 23, May 1990.

Um... since when is it "work" to give speeches? Now I understand that he does not have the best command of the English language, so one might consider HIS speeches "work", but other than that, I don't see how talking to his adoring public constitutes work...

How come I dont hear you bitching that congress and the Supreme Court are taking much more time off?

Well to be honest with you GW can do all is Constitutionally mandated responsibilities from his ranch in Texas. So if you are going to Bitch and whine about someone who does have the hardest job in the world taking some time off you should bitch about Congress never changing the constitution to give them less time off.

Yeah, he's such a bastard for leaving this sweltering hell-hole in DC(Heat Index yesterday: 119) in the middle of August.
The President is working. It's not like he's going fishing in the wilderness for a few months. Any president with half a brain(D or R) would get the hell out of town during the dog days.
Oh by the way, hero of the left FDR routinely took off to Hyde Park, NY or Hot Springs, GA during WWII.
[incredible flaming sarcasm] Besides, for what its really worth, does anything Bush does really count as work. He probably just sits around all day in the oval office chewing his pencils and waiting for Cheney to tell him what to do. Why not let them take him for a walk so he can enjoy the nice fresh air. [/incredible flaming sarcasm]
[horrid joke] if any president with half a brain would get out of Washington, why did Bush leave? (rimshot) [/horrid joke]
So to get out of the heat of Washington D.C.,he goes to TEXAS!!!!
That makes a lot of sense.

Yeah, well, how about that photo op of him chopping wood. In August. In Texas.
And I suppose I was being unfair. I mean, he did take last August off as well, and if really caused any problems, there would have been some sort of catastrophic event early last September that we were miserably unprepared for, right?

Are you trying to tie in 9/11 with Bush going to texas last year?

This is so ridiculous even I am at a loss for words...
Err if you're the president you're working 24 hours a day, vacation or not. Isn't the president still working when they go to Europe or Asia, or anywhere else. Apparently you MUST be in DC, or else you're not working.
The best thing about these 'vacations' is that congress is not in session. You should always invest on the first day they go into recess.
This recession is really hitting me hard, and our company. We only have increased profits 30% over last year. Last year we increased profits by 20% and have done that since I've worked here.
I LOVED the impression Dana Carvey did of John McLaughlin on SNL years ago. Rent the "Best Of" Dana Carvey SNL video just to see that, it's worth the price, trust me. "QUESTION! AM I INSANE? PAT BUCHANAN!" "Yes John.
