To say that someone is making a name for themselves implies that the alleged didn't do anything and is being unfairly treated for no reason other than having a *known* name. I don't think that's the case here from what has been reported so far.
Austin wasn't arrested, he was charged and he turned himself in. There is a difference between the two. So as I said earlier which is more likely, a DA trying make a name for themselves or Austin being a danger to Debra right now. those would be the 2 reasons for filing a charge 2 months after the fact if it wasn't Debra that finally filed charges. And that is unlikely 2 months after the fact, she would have pressed charges almost immediately.
Also, has any of these sources reported where Debra is? Have they been living in the same house for the past 2 months now or has one of them moved? I thought I read a while back that Austin was spotted leaving his house in SA to go to the gym which makes it appear as if he is still living in the house.

Well, I think a larger point is that this so-called "opportunity to make a name" would exist at all if not for his alleged abuse.
I just can't see spinning this in any way to make the SA or DA look like evil or malicious people, but that's just me.
The DA can charge whether Austin is a danger or not, can't s/he? Did anyone think he was a danger before this incident even occured? I like to look at it more as the SA or DA sending a message that this is tolerated. They knew he wouldn't sit in jail, because he can afford to post bail.
As much as this whole incident saddens me, I *do* like that he was charged becasue I grow weary of the rich and famous living under separate rules than the rest of us. And yes, being in the public eye unfortunately eliminates some of your privacy in these kinds of matters. It's the penance for being a star, I would think.

I agree that the larger issue of spousal abuse should not be tolerated by young, old, poor, or rich. That being said, unfortunately most spousal abuse\domestic violence charges are never filed in states where it is not automatic. The abused spouse, more often than not, elects not to press charges and spousal abuse tends to affect the lower end of our economic spectrum more. It is just that the only time we really hear about it is when it occurs with the rich and famous. Yes they probably have the money to not sit in jail but to say that they live under seperate rules in this case does not really hold a lot of water. SA seems to have been brought up on charges this far after the fact due to being famous, had he not been famous and rich the charges probably would not have been followed up on by the DA. Now that being said, if Debra finally filed charges then something else must have happened recently that made her rethink not filing to begin with.

411 confirms (via the AP) that Debra did not file charges against Steve but that his arrest was precipatated by the Bexar County DA's decision to pursue the case without cooperation of the victim.

It appears that the Assistant Criminal D.A. of Bexar County, Texas requested the warrant - nice way to get your name in the papers, I guess. Notice that Steve & Debra both have the same address on the warrant (though that could just mean that they don't have a new address for Steve).

Joy. This better not turn into a Chuck Schwarz-like witchhunt...
Whoa --
Witch-hunt or not, innocent until proven guilty -- HE ALLEGEDLY HIT HIS WIFE. If he's innocent, fine. If he's guilty, he's a wife-beater, plain and simple.
When a woman still defends her significant other b/c they still love them, it's a sad-but-true part of abusive relationships.
If I'm WWE -- I don't bring him back until he's acquitted, or the charges are dropped (and I have an eerie feeling that they could be).
Unfortunately, nothing good can come of this story. Austin has fallen from grace, who knows what Debra's mental state is right now, and a lot of fans have lost a hero. As stupid as it sounds for me to say this, seeing as how I think of myself as an adult who has been a leader many times when needed, I looked up to Stone Cold Steve Austin. I loved watching him on TV, especially during his heel days. He amused the heck out of me. I respected his acting talent, I respected his wrestling talent. And now it tears me up inside to see how the man has fallen. And God help us all if these allegations AREN'T true. There's nothing but a whole lotta hurt in every direction here.

Alrighty, read this sentence and ponder it, tell me what you think about the possibility: DDP will be the next Bobby Heenan. No one will EVER compare to the Weasel, but I can see DDP eeeeeasily going down that route and being extremely successful.
