Query: Now that we have even teams in the NFL again, should the Pro Bowl take place on Week 9?

Pros: The Pro Bowl becomes an important game with the bragging rights of the new NFC and AFC hopefully staying stable for a while. Also a great motivator to turn it to full blast in the opening weeks of the season.

Cons: The first time somebody gets injured, the top stars will refuse to play on Week 9.

Any thoughts on this?

I don't think any coach in the game will let their players give up their week off and play in a meaningless game. Plus you when factor in flying all the way to the middle of the ocean (unless they move the Pro Bowl)it just does not seem like a good idea to play the game in the middle of the season.

9 weeks is too short of a time to gauge the stats that go into the voting...

if there was a week 9 bye, and it was used for the pro bowl, management would rather rest their vets than play them...

end of year is better...it's just silly to have a mid-season break when mid season is just after 8 games

It's just too tough on the bodies for them to fly thousands of miles to play an exhibition game. Besides, would you rather get the free trip to Hawaii in the middle of November or the beginning of February?

As much as the Pro Bowl is a laugher at the end of the season, with Football having it then is the only thing that makes sense.

Who the hell is going to want to play essentially an exhibition game 1/2 way through the season. In Baseball it's fine then, but football?? Not a chance.

I would actually really like the idea. You could permit the winning team to have home field advantage for the Super Bowl (or something related to such).

The downside is, it would turn into an all offense affair probably, with the rationale being that if I don't hit your players too hard, you won't hit my players too hard. Its basically what happens in hockey.

EDIT: Also, it would push the super bowl back.

Hawaii in February is a nice thank you to the elite players that want to take the trip. Yeah the game is a laugher but all the all-star games are meaningless and laughable.

If I were a coach I would not want to send anyone out for an exhibition game in the middle of the season.

The rules are already setup to exploit the offense(no blitzes, three man rush, no hits too hard on the QB) and protect the players, so there really wouldn't be much of a change in that regard. Of course playing in perfect conditions in Hawaii may have something to do with that. Play the game in Foxobor in February and that could change things a bit.

The Pro Bowl is meaningless anyway...football is a game that needs to be played at full intensity. If I wanted to watch a half-assed contest, I'd watch the Bengals.

The state record temperature is 100 F, set at Fort Yukon on June 27, 1915.

Wow. 100 degrees in Alaska that year. Can you imagine what the summer must have been like? Then again the people in Alaska must have been thrilled having that kind of weather for a while.

The biggest reason the Pro Bowl is meaningless is not because it is played after the Super Bowl but because everybody and their Grandmother gets to play in it at least once before they retire.

I've had that argument with people before. I think I can read it well enough to know when Mike is throwing stuff to see what sticks, and when he's relaying something from a good source. ETA - Here's the PFT link http://www.profootballtalk.
