The fact of the matter is, if there are going to be more terrorist attacks, they will happen. Maybe not this year. Maybe next year. They'll keep happening because Al Queda and the Taliban aren't the ducks, they're people. And the fact is, people like killing other people. Sad isn't it. So I'll fly and drive my car and ride the subway and if something happens, so be it. I'm more likely to get accidentally shot in a drive-by or hit as I step off the curb than I am to get killed by terrorists. So in the end, who cares.

On the subject of Vietnam, we forgot the most crucial lesson of all time - "Never fight a land war in Asia". Oh well.

It's time we stop worrying about hurting the feelings of people that WANT TO KILL US. Keeping an eye on the 4 arab men who travel together from NYC to LA with NO LUGGAGE isn't racist. Like WyldeWolf said, it's being vigilant. Which is why men coming from rogue states (even though the PC state department no longer calls them that) should be checked out more thoroughly than some 80 year old woman from virginia.

I'm flying the week before(out of Boston no less) and I plan to wear my Big Black Ass Kickin Boots for safety. Keep the right one on and take the left one off and do the Hokey Pokey on some terrorist's head.

If I was the slightest bit Arabic in appearance, I sure as hell wouldn't fly anywhere this September, for fear that I'd sneeze or make some other sudden movement and an overzealous redneck would cave my head in, screaming "WE GOT US A TERRORIST!"

Seriously.

No kidding. If I was Arabic I'd lay low for a while. I heard there was an Army trainee back at Fort Benning who got beaten halfway to death with a pipe last November, by other Army trainees. That really made me sick to my stomach. This kid was signing up in the infantry to fight, and some fucking peckerwoods beat his head in because of his race. All men were created equal, except when they look like whatever psycho is fucking with us at the moment, apparently. The kid was 3rd generation US citizen from upstate NY, if I recall correctly. And he was Catholic.

I hate people a lot of the time, I'm sad to say.

What does being a 'redneck' have to do anything? What if someone from New York City is now nervous around arabs on planes. Does that make the cityboy a 'redneck'? Arab men committed the Sep 11 atrocites. You can turn on any news channel and see arab men blowing themselves up in suicide attacks. Watch or read the news and you'll see more arabs spewing hatred for the USA and everyone in it. How can you condemn anyone in this country for being nervous about arabs after everything that has happened and happens everyday in the mideast? Of course it's wrong to randomly beat up some arab or arab looking person just because you dont like them. But you have to accept the fact that people are going to be nervous and suspicious. what purpose does it serve to dismiss people's fears by calling them rednecks. would you call a WTC widow suffering post traumatic stress disorder a redneck because she fears arabs? If I saw an arab walking down the street I wouldn't be afraid. i work in an environment with people of arabic descend and/or from the mideast. but if i was on a cross country flight with 3 or 4 arab men sitting together with no luggage you are damn right i'd be suspicious. and i certainly am no 'redneck'

I'm actually going to Europe in late August (I'm going to miss SummerSlam *sigh* leaving on that weekend) coming back early September around the 7th (I know it's the weekend after labor day) while most of my family is coming back at the 12th... I'll be honest I'm not feeling totally cool about this. But plans have been made and finalized, so there's no turning back now.

Um, beating the shit out of someone with a "Big Black Ass Kickin' Boot" is generally considered to be a redneck characteristic. Bradshaw would be proud.

Watch or read the news and you'll see more arabs spewing hatred for the USA and everyone in it.

To hear many on the right talk, the media is full of liberals spewing hatred for the USA and everyone in it. Does this make anyone carrying a copy of Mother Jones or a Jello Biafra CD fair game, too?

Be nervous, if you like. Be suspicious, if you like. But be a little bit intelligent about it. The people you're angrily eyeing are 99% more likely to be normal, law-abiding citizens than dangerous terrorists, and your plane will be more likely to be hit by lightning than by Al-Qaeda.

Just to clear things up: There is probably no state that is less redneck than Massachusetts. The true Patriots(not the football team) of this country came from my state and were the true definition of being a Yankee(not the NY baseball team). I will go out of my way to wear my big ass boots because if something were to happen, then I would like to be able to have a chance to protect myself and my fiance. I never said I was randomly seeking out Arabs(nor did I even mention them) to beat down. I used the term "Terrorists" and if that brings up an image of an Arab man, that's not my fault. BTW: Boston was the homebase for the terrorists that perpetrated the terrorists acts of 9/11. People that fly out of Boston should be especially careful and ready to take action if necessary. The incompetent security at Logan does not help matters either.

I think everyone is making too much of this...

I had collegues who went to Cuba (for acacdemic reasons) after September 11th - and a friend who went for non-academic reasons as well (he met a woman from Sweden). I have friends of Middle Eastern background who have flown since September with no hassle.

Not to mention, the chances, even on Sept 11 2001, of being involved in a plane crash are so slim....

I actually may attend a conference on Sept 15th, and would not hesitate to fly on Sept 11 2002.

Oh and by the by, I would be more nervous around some shaved-head white guy than I would be around an arab.

By I digress...

Nevermind that this is just a stupid statement to begin with, I'll just say that the fact that one of thirteen states may have a richer story in an American history textbook has nothing to do with the state's patriotic status 200 years later and among 49 other states.

Although I never said my state was more patriotic than the other 49 states present day, the only way to measure such a thing would be to look at a state's history. So it is you that has written the stupid statement. I was just making a point that we are all Yankees in this region of the country. Why don't you take that out of context as well.

And to all those that oppose wearing Big,Black,Ass Kickin Boots on a plane leaving out of Boston in order to protect yourself and your fiance in case of another incident: I can only hope that if another incident on a plane were to occur, that you people are on that particular plane. And when you realize all you have to protect yourself against whatever sharp weapon the terrorists happen to be threatening you with are your sandals, a magazine, your tootbrush, and a complimentary bag of peanuts, you will wish you had worn your Boots.

Good Luck To All of You
