To a lot of the long time people who have posted here this thread probably gets old, but I haven't posted here for long and this is a question I always like to ask. In your opinion, what do you think was the best match you have ever seen?

If you ask me Ric Flair vs. Randy Savage for the WWF title at WrestleMania VIII was without a doubt the best match I have ever witnessed. That match had it all...good wrestling, a great story, and an amazing crowd. Even the post-match interviews with Flair being calmly pissed off was great. If you have never seen this match, find it somewhere.

Eh, it's always a fun question. So long as you allow that "best match" is always a matter of taste.

My personal, all-time favorite match is HHH vs. Cactus Jack, the Royal Rumble 2000 Street Fight. Just incredible intensity, brutal, believable, with a great angle to build into it.

In terms of a pure wrestling workrate standpoint, I'd say Bret-Owen at Wrestlemania X, though. Just a display of pure, old fashioned wrestling technique (with great hatred and psychology, too)

The Savage-Flair match is awesome, too, though, no doubt. Savage was pretty much just awesome up until his WCW days (and he still showed it every now and then there, especially against DDP)

US: Ricky Steamboat vs. Ric Flair (NWA World Title, Wrestle War '89)
Japan: Tie between
Mitsuharu Misawa vs Toshiaki Kawada (Triple Crown, 06/94)
Mitsuharu Misawa & Jun Akiyama vs. Toshiaki Kawada & Akira Taue ('96 Real World Tag League Final)

In my biased opinion...

Rad T,

Savage/Flair at WM VIII is the exact match that hooked me on pro wrestling when I was young. That one easily gets my vote too.

some people may blast me for this, but hogan / warrior at wrestlemania six was really fucking good. i had no idea who would win, which was rare for a match with hogan in it.

there are a lot of matches i haven't seen since i gradually stopped watching after sgt. slaughter's pro-iraqi angle and didn't start up again until after the original nwo was in full swing.

the kurt angle / chris benoit wrestlemania match was great. steamboat / savage is too fuzzy of a memory for me.

I've always been really partial to The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels in the Hell In A Cell. That match lived up to expectations and then some!

Foley vs. Michaels at Mind Games is something else... The brutality is awesome.

Then I have my WCW stuff... Dean Malenko vs. Rey Mysterio Jr. at Great American Bash 1996 will blow your mind. It's a near perfect Cruiserweight match, and proves Rey DOESN'T need to be flippy flippy to be successful. I also love Juventud Guerrera vs. Blitzkrieg at Spring Stampede 1999 - if only because both guys are awesome and both guys were bloody determined to steal the show that night.

I know I'm forgetting stuff - but whatever. I'm tired.

I'd have to go with either Perfect/Hart at Summerslam '91, or Piper/Hart at Wrestlemania VIII. Savage/Flair at that same 'mania is a close runner up.

Pick any from Misawa vs Kawada and Steamboat vs Flair and you have a winner in my books.

Even though i hate what the Hardys have become, i am going to go with Edge/Christian v. Hardys ladder match No Mercy 99.

Yeah it's a gimmick match, but at the time no one had seen the innovation and the Hardys/Edge/Christian were all lower midcarders at the time -- this wasn't even for the tag team titles! This match made four stars (and now I wish two of them both with the same last name would get other jobs).

Yeah, a lot of people point to the Shawn/Razor ladder matches and don't get me wrong they were great matches. But watch any ladder match since No Mercy 99 and you will see them doing various spots that wouldn't have been donw had that match not existed. It really changed the way a gimmick match was done.

Plus it helps that Christian is my favorite wrestler.

I'd have to go with Hogan/Andre at WMIII. The story was awesome and these were the titans. Not unlike Hogan/Rock at this past year's WM. Kind of a torch passing thing.

Seeing Hogan slam (Sort of) Andre was neat.

2nd place for me is Hogan/Warrior at WM6.

3rd: Any match involving LaParka...

This always changes, because you always see new things, but I'm going to say...

For sheer workrate: Mysterio vs. Malenko (Mysterio's first match), also I'll add Triple H/Rock Ironman match.

For pure excitement and adrenaline: Tie between the first Wrestlemania Rock/Austin ('99) and Hogan/Rock.

Just my favorite match for no reason: Six Man Hell in a Cell (Rikishi, 'Taker, Triple H, Rock, Austin, Angle) at... Can't remember the name. But, it STILL isn't out on DVD!

I RESPECT your opinion. Please respect mine. Or feel the wrath of Buddha!

Giving the 7/29 RAW match of Benoit/RVD 4 stars is like Whitney Houston calling Bobby Brown the "King of R&B." The "King of R&B"!? SHIT! Ribs and Barbecue! Rocks and Blunts! That match wasn't no four stars, just like he ain't the "King of R&B"! You ain't that high! Now, I'm not saying you're a crack-head. Just very...Crackish. Bret / Owen at WM X was the best match ever. It had everything - a good storyline, a hot crowd, good psychology . . . and of course, Owen won.

i made a movie about the end of the world it was twelve seconds long and it didn't have a plot it just happens and that's why it's in black and white the characters don't talk or move around they just stare up at the sky

the ppv was armageddon 2000 (i'm pretty sure i spelled it wrong).

i don't have a clear-cut "favorite" match, but some of my favorites include:

hardyz vs e&c - ladder match - no mercy 1999. these were 4 of my top 5 or 6 wrestlers at the time, and seeing them go out and kill themselves in such an innovative and brutal match just sent me into spirals of pleasure.

bret vs owen - wrestlemania x. i can still watch this match and mark out like a little kid. it's just freakin' awesome.

rock vs hogan - wrestlemania x8. i was there live, and it totally took every ounce of energy, emotion, adrenaline and drained it out in a 20 minute time span. i still get very worked up about it whenever it comes on.

hhh vs rock - iron man - judgment day 2000. i can watch this match again and again, and still be entertained. this is something i cannot do for shawn - bret, and with a LOT of other matches. it's just that damn good.

razor vs shawn - ladder match - wrestlemania x. probably my second favorite ladder match of all time behind the one up there, and just a beautiful example of a gimmick match going hand in hand with wrestling, and not overpowering the entire match. honorable mention to the summerslam 95 rematch, which actually implemented a fair amount of PSYCHOLOGY with the ladder, even if it didn't figure into the ending.

bret vs austin - survivor series 1996. i'm not as big a fan of the rematch at wrestlemania 13 as some people are, because i feel that this one completely overshadows it. it's not on my top 5 favorite matches, but i felt it deserved to be mentioned because i just watched it the other day and it's still an amazing contest. i'm not a huge fan of +20 minute matches, but this one kept me on the edge of my seat for 30 minutes, and that's a very good thing.

somewhat long-winded, but hey, i got my point across.

EDIT: i like to fix spelling mistakes.

I hardly ever get ppv's so mine are from free tv.

Bret/Benoit - Owen Tribute match

HHH/Austin - Benoit/Jericho

Angle/Benoit - in a cage with Heel Austin commentating

I'd put my money on it being HHH, that is if I had any.

I agree. I liked the first Bret vs. Austin match at Survivor Series better than any other one. Another one of my favorite matches is also on this card...Sid vs. Michaels for the WWF title. Say what you want about Sid, but this match was great and so was the MSG crowd. Other matches that I thought were great were obviously Hogan vs. Rock, a match that brought out the true wrestling fan in almost everybody, and Rock vs. Austin at WM17. The #2 best match ever on my list would without a doubt be Mankind vs. Rock for the WWF title on the first RAW of '99.
