I'd have preferred we got Colon, but I'll settle for Floyd.

All it cost was two minor league pitchers (Seung Jun Song and Sun Woo Kim) and a Player to be Named.

Now let's get an arm!

Colon was never a potential deal. He's got years left on his contract and makes too much happen for them to be expendable anyway. If the franchise moves, having someone of his caliber makes them worthwhile, at least every 5th day.

You know Steinbrenner will have to counter this. I wonder who the Yankees will be getting tomorrow? I'm rooting for the Sox to overtake the Yanks. I'm looking towards a 1986 Series rematch, Mets and Red Sox. It's gonna happen!!!

No offense to Red Sox fans, but, this is absolutely terrible. The former owner of the Expos, who now owns the Marlins, trades Floyd to the Expos (MLB)... then MLB turns around and trades him to another former owner of the Marlins. This is just beyond corrupt. It's like teams competing against their own farm teams. MLB owning a team clearly should never have been allowed, if they are incapable of seeing that this kind of thing is a massive conflict of interest.

Well, and I thought Yankee fans were above taking potshots at the Sox. Guess I was wrong. And wasn't it the General Manager's call? Isn't he the guy in charge of all the signing and trading? Oh, wait, that would reek of logic, something completely foreign to the state of New York. And by the way, hayabusa, the Mets aren't gonna make the playoffs. Sox and Reds, going back to '75. Or maybe the Cardinals'll come in for a '67 rematch. I hope Paul Byrd likes pitching in Fenway.

I'm not a Yankee fan, and I will ignore your insulting my birthplace. Yes, the Expos' GM has to approve the trade, but the Expos' GM is an employee of Major League Baseball. MLB is just trying to fuck over Montreal & Florida -- the teams they want dead -- and reward the guy who had to deal with Florida for a few years. The owners involved here are all buddies rotating in betwen the teams that MLB has forsaken. I thought for a couple of weeks that they would run Montreal like any other contending team and give them a fair chance, but that was obviously overestimating their integrity.

Well, they still have Colon, who's VERY marketable, and they aren't sending him anywhere. I guess they think they'll still be around, especially considering who they got for Floyd... Sunny Kim isn't quite ready for prime time, and Song is still a prospect and not a player yet. Then again, I did say Ohka sucked ass, and he's actually not doing half bad up there. Besides, we need the bat... but could you do us a favor and take Arrojo or Castillo as that PtbNL? Pwease?

It's pretty ironic that the Expos have SUCKED since they traded for Colon and Floyd. Reports say that Floyd wasn't pleased with playing in Montreal anyway.

Even speaking as an Expos fan, I can understand the reasoning behind the deal.

Right after the All-Star break, the 'spos were in contention, they deal for Floyd and Colon within a week of each other (something like that). Since the deal for Floyd, they have gone 6-11 (something like that, it's close to it). Obviously, dealing for Floyd wasn't the trick for getting them to the playoffs. They're now sitting at .500, 15 games out of 1st in the East, 6 games out of the wild card, with 5 teams to leap to get there.

If the Expos had dealt Floyd to another team, people would still be whining, I know that. (I'm afraid of what would've happened here if the Yanks picked up Floyd.) There's not a conspiracy theory going on here, people. If there's a deal that sends Colon somewhere, with the Expos picking up almost all the salary, yeah, we can talk conspiracy theory, but not before then. It was simply a team that picked up help for a potential playoff run, then realized that it wasn't going to happen. If this was, say, Houston or the Mets, would you still be screaming "conspiracy"?

(Houston, for the record, is currently at .514, 6 games out of the Central, 4 1/2 out of the WC. The Mets are also .514, but 13 1/2 out of the East. I hate the Braves. :-( )

EDIT: The Colon comparison, as Jubuki aptly pointed out, was because he still has years left on his deal. Also, good point about the marketability in case of a move.

Well, now we've got two great Sox trades to look at. And look, the Expos got so much more than the White Sox did. This isn't a case of Major League Baseball screwing the Expos because they're gonna die next year, this is a case of Mike Port being an absolute genius and just maybe the second coming of Patrick Henry, the smoothest talker of all time. I hope Dan Duquette is rotting in misery wherever he is, because now we have someone who gives a damn!

Well, I will admit Dan Duquette did one thing right in his career.

BOSTON-Traded P Heathcliff Slocumb to Seattle for two minor leaguers (P Derek Lowe and C Jason Varitek).

Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if Duquette was found hanging off a tree, burning. Not even in effigy.

As much as you can complain about Floyd being dealt to Boston, at least it gives them more ammo for taking out the Yankees.

What's even funnier is seeing Steinbrenner rant that MLB has it out for the Yankees by sending Floyd to the Sox. What a loon.

That's crazy dude, if the Mets don't make than it isn't going to be the Reds neither. The Mets are pretty hot at the moment and made some moves to strengthen thier pitching staff. Now i'm not saying they are going to the World Series or even making the playoffs, cause they still need some outfielders but I don't see the Reds doing any better than the Mets here on out.

Cardinals in the World Series I can see though.

Keep an eye on the Reds. Their lineup is loaded, Junior Griffey's starting to hit, Casey will be back sooner or later, not that they really need him. The key is Dempster and/or Moehler coming around.

Man it pains me to say this, because I hate the damn Reds, but they've kind of become my lesser of the evils team to follow this year. I hope we get a Reds-Twins series.

And they do have an advantage over the Mets in that they could still win their division (don't see it, but they COULD), the Mets damn sure ain't doing that.
