Anyone notice that he wore this shirt last night. Perhaps it had someting to do with him being "born again".

Yep. Isn't it ironic seeing a guy with a "Saved 1" shirt lying in a pool of his own blood with a head-sized hole in the car next to him?

I think it's more ironic that Shawn can be a born-again Christian and still find a way to justify making money by working for a corporation that sells violence, profanity and sexuality (often times combined) to kiddos.

Don't get me wrong, I love WWE, but Christian values and morals it is not.

Note: this was not a knock on Christianity, but rather a knock on Shawn Michaels interesting style of "integrity."

Faust, you are so right on, dude. Well said.

It's almost like he's mocking himself and his beliefs, which are supposed to be so "deep and private". What an idiot.

Speaking as a Christian on behalf of myself only, I don't have a problem with Shawn Michaels being born-again and working for WWE if he's using his status and the opportunities that being in such a "depraved" business provides to be a witness and make a difference in the lives of others.

However, if he's back in WWE merely to draw a paycheck, as many are suggesting, that's something else entirely, and he really should distance himself from WWE and possibly wrestling in its current form altogether as men like Tully Blanchard, Ted Dibiase, and Sting have done.

Question for those who are criticizing Shawn:

Is it okay for a Christian to act in a movie/telivision series/play where he plays/is surrounded by a violent/sexually deviant/etc character? It is fictional and part of a story, but some people have a problem with it nonetheless.

But I think if you see the movie/TV actor as okay, then Mr. Hickenbottom falls into the same category.

Hypocrisy is something that happens on different levels. If hypocrisy is a bad thing (and I'm not saying it is, completely) then wouldn't every level be bad. What I'm saying is, it's no more wrong for Shawn to be "saved" and work for a non-Christian company than it would be for any other "saved" person to be involved in something secular or "worldy".

Personally, I think hypocrisy is a part of every person's life, whether they admit it or not. And I'm not talking about Christian hypocrisy, just in general. If Shawn is alright with it, I'm alright with it. After all, being comfortable with our own duality is one of the keys to happiness.

If he feels he's not personally putting his values on the line with his job, then there may not be much wrong with what he's doing. On the other hand, he is helping to promote a company which sells things he apparently does not agree with. So I'll admit the guy may deserve some amount of criticism. He may be thinking that the WWE has "toned down" its product a bit recently, I don't know. But I don't envy the position he is in. I once felt the same way working in radio, which is perhaps an even more depraved business than pro wrestling (see Howard Stern). At that time in my life years ago I just felt it was an environment that was too distracting from how I wanted to be, so I left and re-directed my career. (I only occasionally went back for emergency fill-in shifts to help my way through college.) Remembering how fun it was can draw you back towards it though, so that is probably playing on Michaels a bit too.

I don't see how he can justify it. His employer routinely shows a bra-and-panties match followed by a toy commercial.

Like Faust said, I don't have a problem with the content, but should the Saved 1?

Has anyone given it much thought that Saved 1 may have meant that Shawn saved one more match in him? Just a thought.

You can pull Shawn out of the fire now,I think he's done.

I really get the feeling Shawn could have came out in a shirt that said "I hate Jebus" and still got the same or worse reaction that he got by wearing the "Saved 1".

I believe Shawn knows very well that, when you come right down to it, he is an actor playing a role, in a company of actors playing other roles.

If an angle that he's personally involved with conflicts with his beliefs, or if the company takes a direction that he perceives as a direct slap at his beliefs (say, if the Undertaker snaps again, nails an altar boy to a giant crucifix, then uses his nailed carcass as a Plinko board), I'd expect him to vocally object and/or walk. But in the grand scheme of things, American wrestling is pure vaudeville with simulated grappling thrown in, and I'll wager he's learned not to sweat the small stuff.

Where Shawn draws the line is between Shawn and his deity, and I prefer to leave it that way. When someone says "If X was a true [insert some religious/political/national affiliation here], he'd act like THIS," I take it with a grain of salt; they're judging X on their own interpretation of right and wrong, as if it wasn't a subjective concept.

And let's be realistic here. The "Saved 1" shirt drew a handful of posts on one thread, and barely raised an eyebrow. Had someone else worn a "0 God" or "Atheist 1" shirt, he'd have been tarred and feathered by now.

No one's saying it's wrong for Shawn to be devout; it's just unusual in a wrestling context for him to advertise it.

Well said VSP.

Maybe Shawn has a special "I can wear any T-shirt" clause in his contract (the same clause that Scott Hall seems to have in NWA: TNA). Other than that, I can't see why Vince would allow Shawn to wear religious T-shirts when the character he plays is seemingly not even close to "moral" or "religious."
