Last night on the Tonight Show Jay Leno had a bit where they played video footage of Saddam Hussein. The dubbed voice was saying the usual rhetoric about Iraq being strong and kicking butt and then Saddam says "If you smell what Iraq is cookin'" and then saddam raised the (iraqi) People's Eyebrow. I assume the eyebrow was a digital edit. I'm curious if anyone has seen other examples of Wrestling (WWE, wCW, ECW) catchphrases being used in the Mainstream media. I've seen references to "laying the Smackdown" but I'm not sure if that counts. Did the Rock/WWE writers create that phrase or simiply popularize an existing one?
- 'Don't hate the player....hate the game' (credit to Booker T). - ROCKETBUSTAH (I admit, it was me). - Anything by the Rock really. - "It's true. It's true"
I remeber last Thanksgiving in one of the NFL games on, a played did the R-V-D thumbs thing after a big play. And someone else did an illeagel tackel by taking the guy down by his helmet and Madden called it a Bulldog.
I'm gonna get me an oversized guitar, gain 40 pounds, and become the next D!

I don't think you can really credit Booker with the "Don't hate the player.." catchphrase. It's from the hip hop scene, and if you tuned into MTV about a year and a half ago you would have probably heard it all the time. Just like Scott Steiner stole the "holler if ya hear me" line from the rap world.
In MIB 2 Will Smith says something to the effect of laying the smackdown on an alien's ass, or something.

Yeah, professional bowler Pete Weber's famous for doing that taunt as well. He did go on record as saying he picked that up from RVD, as well as the crotch chops from, IIRC, DX.
Speaking of that bowler, Pete Weber, WHAT a freakin' LOSER! I wanna' punch him. Literally. Everytiome I see him, he's doing the suckit thing and I'm thinking "WHAM! hehehehe..." I mean what an ass!
I got two blips on my Ha-dar. Shoot 'em down!
The next time I hear you say "glass ceiling" or you complain about someone being shoved down their throats, I'm gonna take that glass ceiling and shove it down your throat.

INSTANT candidate for the Onion's list of people who need a good cock-punching.
I don't know much about what's popular in the mainstream in terms of catching a phrase here and there. What I DO know, however, is that I've been meaning to use the word "Slapnuts" in a sentence in public for two years now, and I've yet to do so.
laying the Smackdown was also from the Hip Hop world.. I remember hearing it in "Nothin But A G Thang"... way back when...
"You can save the planet, I'll save your seat"- Uncle Kracker, Better Days "Confucious say: Man with hand in pocket feel cocky all day!"- Crank Yankers
I don't know what football player you saw doing the PTS in that Thanksgiving game. Reidel Anthony, formerly of the Bucs now a Redskin, used to do the Alex Wright dance after he caught a touchdown and then started doing the PTS after RVD came to WWF.

Maybe tomorrow...
I've had "slapnuts" in my vocabulary for years now. Though, it was probably more appropriate to use it at the fraternity house I belonged to, then at work ;^)
