Wow. A year ban, AND get fired too? This sucks for Astros fans. But this will also put a spotlight on every other team "suspected" of stealing signs.

Have to imagine the hammer is going to come down hard on the Red Sox after how deeply Alex Cora was implicated, then the cheating follows him to Boston.

Yeah, but they both get to keep their titles, so cheating works, right? I wonder how the Dodgers feel losing in both 2017 and 2018 to these cheating cheaters?

Sign stealing has been going on since Old Hoss Radbourne was pitching 94 complete games a season. The only difference here is the technology required. I don't see it as cheating. The other team is relaying signs and players on the team in question are decoding them. It should be the job of the sign relaying team to make them complex enough to not be stolen.

But I guess now that we have all these replay crews it is easy to watch and steal signs.

"Back in 2010, Phillies bullpen coach Mick Billmeyer was caught using binoculars to look in at the action from the visiting bullpen at Coors Field, located in right-center field with a great view of the catcher.

The Phillies denied any wrongdoing, claiming that he used the binoculars to evaluate the team's catcher Carlos Ruiz, but after he was caught on television the league understandably stepped in and put a stop to the use of binoculars by Billmeyer."

But Billmeyer wasn't suspended or fined.

"back in the 1980s the White Sox used their scoreboard to steal signs from the opposition.

Armed with a 25-watt refrigerator bulb and a toggle switch, a member of the White Sox organization would sit in the manager's office and watch the camera that had a view of the catcher from center field.

Flipping the switch on meant either a fastball or breaking ball was coming, and no action from the light meant the other was coming.

Simple, effective and incredibly shady all wrapped into one"

No one suspended

"There may be no more infamous instance of sign-stealing, or at least accused sign-stealing, than Bobby Thomson's legendary "Shot Heard 'Round the Word" that clinched the NL pennant for the Giants on October 3, 1951.

Thomson's walk-off blast to send the Giants to the World Series is regarded as one of the greatest moments in baseball history, and while there is no changing its significance in the game's history, there is some suspicion surrounding it.

Wall Street Journal writer Joshua Prager wrote a book on the home run entitled Echoing Green: The Untold Story of Bobby Thomson, Ralph Branca and the Shot Heard Round the World.

In the book, he reported that Giants position coach Herman Franks was using a telescope from the Giants clubhouse during a number of late-season games, including that one to relay the catcher's signs. A buzzer was set up to alert someone in the Giants bullpen of the pitch call, and he would in turn relay it to the batter."

But they still play that clip where the giants win the pennant! is said over and over again

And Alex Cora and NY Mets Never-Got-To-Be-Manager Carlos Beltran have also parted ways with their teams.

Todsy is buzzer gate. Pictures of astros with buzzers taped to them. Altuve running to the dugout to take off his jersey and put in the championship shirt supposedly so no one would see the buzzer. Innovative.

Thank you for clarifying what this was for me AWArulz. Until your post I was assuming the two gents had been on a bender and came home with the sign that is normally out the front of Yankees headquarters.

It does seem excessive, for what is effectively more gamesmanship. But still - all sport has is its integrity. If they let that go, then they're just the WWE.

I have now entertained myself watching the videos of the world series game with the Dodgers. Even the Dodgers knew it was happening. The pitchers kept stepping off. I know this would all be ok if this was the 1st base coach or 3rd base coach stealing the signs and relaying them. But the players on the other teams must be morons - you hear the whistles and the bat bangs for the off speed pitches.

I predict that eventually we will find that the Astros were not the only team doing this by any stretch. We know they were doing it in 2017 and into 2018. Maybe even 2019.

this is conclusive they were doing (listen with headphones)
Again, I still don't know if I condemn them.
