We just finished a Vancouver to Whittier (Anchorage) trip that was pretty awesome but I admit I thought Princess line's entertainment and features and even the food wasn't as great as Carnival when we went to the Bahamas a few years back. We have decided to cruise more so I am asking ...

of you Cruisers - what is the best cruise line?

I've never been (and never will unless we got the lotto or win a riverboat cruise), but my parents are yearly cruisers. They prefer Norwegian and Carnival, and have said they'll never go on Celebrity again. When they go, they do the self-guided shore excursions and a few shows on the boat; aside from that, it's usually poolside for my dad and a slot machine for my mom. They rave about the food and all-inclusive booze package on Norwegian, and they say the loyalty program with Norwegian is great. Are you looking to stay mostly around the US or go towards Europe too? I can ask them anything really specific you'd want to know about. They've done the entire Caribbean, as well as the Danube and part of the Mediterranean, and they're going through the Panama Canal in November I think.

Well, I am willing to listen. I was asking a one question. I was hoping to see a plurality of posts

Like Dutchie, I've never been on a cruise myself, but my parents have. I texted my mom this afternoon about their cruise experiences, and this was her response:

"We've been on three cruises. Norwegian, Royal Caribbean and Carnival. I liked all of them...can't really say one was better than the others. Probably more young people go on Carnival so it depends on the age of people going."

It's not quite the same thing, but I took a European river cruise with Tauck (tauck.com)and it was one of the most amazing trips of my life. It is stupid expensive however, and the whole time before we left I kept thinking "this better be worth it, this better be worth it," and it was- maybe even more so. I seriously cannot think of single bad thing to say. I even diligently saved for the next 4 years so I could take another trip with Tauck again (South Africa- somehow even more awesome).

It's the most important meal of the day.

I took my wife and four kids on a cruise last year. It was Royal Caribbean. We had a blast. The kids loved it and my wife and I got some time alone which was even better.

My mother and I just came back from a Carnival cruise to The Bahamas, and we enjoyed it immensely. We ate far more food than we probably should have. The Radiance Restaurant provided some food that would have been prohibitively expensive anywhere else, as well as rare foods like duck, rabbit, and escargot. The pasta bar was lovely, and so was Guy's Burger Joint.

We enjoyed singing karaoke, watching the World Series at the sports bar, and relaxing in a hot tub. I didn't do any serious swimming, or the water slides, or anything really athletic, though. And we had to turn around halfway through our walking tour of Nassau because Mom's power chair ran dangerously low on juice.

Us old guys have to stick together, you know. Actually, I have only been to a bar with karaoke once in my whole long life. Once. It wasn't that pleasant. Now on the rare occasion we get a sitter for the kids, we don't go to bars.
