We are thinking about moving out of the ownership world and into the renting world. We want more mobility as we age and want to fore ourselves to divest of all our junque.
has anyone else moved from Owning to renting?
what about you? Rent or Own? We own a house, single family residence
We'll be back right after order has been restored here in the Omni Center.
That the universe was formed by a fortuitous concourse of atoms, I will no more believe than that the accidental jumbling of the alphabet would fall into a most ingenious treatise of philosophy - Swift
As of last November, I am renting for the first time since 1992. The soon to be former MrsSec19 and I are downsizing and divorcing (all amicable). We are in an apartment for now and I didn't miss shovelling last winter and don't miss mowing this summer.
I will own again, but I'm in no hurry. The youngest son is going to be a senior in high school, so after he graduates I am not locked into this school district.
Downsizing was FANTASTIC! Went from owning a 4 bedroom 4 bath home (three full stories) into a 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment. Goodwill and St. Vincent Thrift store had to have gotten sick of seeing us as we dropped of so much stuff that we didn't need anymore (some of it we never needed in the first place).
The new standard deduction really hit me this last tax year. I am no longer really benefiting from being a home owner, we can't itemize enough for mortgage interest to help out.
Honestly I love our house but economically renting doesn't seem all that bad. So much easier too - someone else has to do maintenance and the yard...
I found out by reading Facebook. This was about 11 pm EDT. I told The Lovely Mrs. Tracker as she was doing her nightly mysterious bathroom rituals and watched the president's speech.
