Postscript, motherfuckers! You didn't really think I'd call it quits without actually covering the big show, did you? It was every bit as good as I'd hoped, even with the downer of an ending.

We started out, as has become the norm, with the tag team titles. I like Mustache Mountain because the kind of remind me of the Hart Foundation, with a technician and a brawler, but they're a super-modern team, too. I absolutely failed to note in my final recap that I think Roderick Strong's letterman jacket makes him look like a recently divorced dad, so I'm making certain that you all see that joke here. Mission accomplished. This was a barn-burner, although perhaps not quite as good as their previous outings. Highlights include a really cool stack suplex where Bate had Riley on his back and German-ed Strong, and a cool reversal of the spot where the Era is in a double submission but it gets broken up, with Bate clobbering Strong with Riley. The Era actually works over Bate's knee in this match, but Seven refuses to throw in the towel, until Bate is able to make a Hot Tag. The Era is surprisingly strong here, kicking out of both the Tyler Driver and MM's team finisher, ultimately hitting the Hi/Low and pulling the win.

Next was Dream vs. EC3 in a solid match. Finishing sequence was white-hot, as EC3 pulled off a superplex, but Dream got back to his feet and countered with a superkick, followed by what is now called a Dream Valley Driver. After that, he nailed another DVD on the apron, followed by a Purple Rainmaker on the apron, to pick up his first big-time win.

Ricochet beat Adam Cole to win the NA title in a very good match, but that's not important right now. What's important is that Nigel stole my bit!!!! For four years I have referred to the floor between the ring and the ramp as the Danger Zone, and immediately after I retire from recapping, Nigel calls it that on a major show! Could easily be a coincidence, but that's one hell of a coincidence. (NIGEL MCGUINNESS, IF YOU ARE READING THIS AND STEALING MY BITS, PLEASE STEAL AS MANY OF THEM AS YOU WOULD LIKE, IT WOULD BE A SUPER HONOR) Anyhoo, the match had some really great moments, including Cole superkicking Ricochet right out of a quebrada attempt, as well as the two of them trading massive shots on each other for about a minute straight. Finally, Ricochet ran across the ring and 'rana'd Cole off the apron to the floor, which was enough to set up the 630 and the win.

Kairi Sane is your NEW NXT Women's champ, defeating Baszler in a hard contest. They had some real Strong Style shit going on here, as well as Sane hitting a cross body to the floor that made it look like she was literally flying. Baszler managed to kick out of the InSane elbow, and Sane escaped the Kirifuda Clutch as well. Eventually, Sane went for, I believe, a third InSane elbow, only to have Baszler counter with boots to the elbow. Baszler immediately locked in the Clutch, and we were all sure it was over, but Sane rolled through and pinned Baszler for three, the same way that Ember Moon did the first time she beat Baszler. It was a great match, every bit as good as I'd hoped, and Sane cried a lot when she won, and everyone got super emotional.

Finally, Tomasso Ciampa retained his title against Johnny Gargano, who could not let go of the hate in his heart, and was thus vanquished. Johnny came out in Spider-Man/Venom tights, which kind of tells you everything you need to know about his character right now, assuming you are as big a nerd as he is (and I am). Ciampa's finisher, by the way, is being called the Fairy Tale Ending, and that is awesome. This maybe wasn't as good as their first outing, but it did have some fun spots including a bit where Ciampa buried Gargano under everything he could find, including the barricade, the ring bell station, and an incapacitated production assistant. Finish came up on the ramp, as Ciampa begged for forgiveness. As soon as I saw that Johnny wouldn't forgive him, I knew he lost the match. Johnny cuffed Ciampa to a light board and hit him with a running knee strike, but in the process went off the ramp and dislocated his knee, rendering unable to rise by the count of 10. I don't think this is exactly over, but I think we're going to be hitting pause on it for a bit while Johnny gets his shit together. Hopefully, the next time they fight, Johnny's wearing Spider-Man tights.

Anyhoo, thanks for reading, and I hope you've enjoyed this special bonus content! See you all next Takeover, maybe!

That ending sucked. There is no good way around. I don't want to hear about so-so going up to the mid-card. If I am in NXT, I am bidding my time for the string of injuries that occur after Survivor Series. Honestly, I think NXT needs to keep people around for more than six months.

Is this the first show to start at 7, ... I missed the first hour. I thought the Women’s match was outstanding, the NA Title match wasn’t a match for me but I can respect what they are doing. The NXT Title match and the whole Gargano - Ciampa feud just isn’t working for me. I think I know what they are trying to do, but I’m not buying it. Maybe that makes me old man that yells at clouds, but I’m okay with that.

Same for me. How can you get behind a guy that's already got revenge and then loses the next two match by his own hands basically.

The dreams pants were a little to on the nose for me too. Broadcasting I don't want to be here anymore is not the way to act. 22 or not. Are they even trying to use it to get heat?

I want to see Mustache Mountain vs The Bar now.

The tag team match was easily the worst match on the card and easily in the top 10% of WWE matches this year. That's how good this show was. (And my only complaint about the tag match was too much kicking out of finishers.)

I was really happy to see Dream pick up the win but I hope Vince ignores his tights. It's barely been a year since Dream debuted the character and 9 months since his first Takeover match against Aleister Black. The longer Dream stays in NXT, the better he'll get, and the more likely Vince will die and not have a chance to ruin the character.

Ricochet winning the title caught me by surprise. It makes me think they're fast-tracking him for the main roster and want an NXT accolade to boast about. Watching that superkicked moonsault in slow motion is absolutely insane. That would have been a main event of Wrestlemania worthy moment.

Sane picking up the women's title also surprised me, but now I'm intrigued about what that means in relation to Rousey tonight.

Ciampa's heeling is the best thing going in wrestling today. I'm glad they didn't cut it short to give Gargano the fairy tale ending, no matter how much he deserves it. I'm sure they had something planned for them in November following the planned 3-way. They're likely sticking with it and Gargano will be going over at War Games.

The great thing about NXT is that even when something goes the exact opposite of what I want/expect, I have no doubt that there's a plan for what comes next. When I scream WTF at the TV during Takeover, it's always in response to some insane move, not a booking decision.

Dude, just give up. That ending was one of the greatest pieces of storytelling in professional wrestling history. You're so obsessed with behind the scenes bullshit that you can't even enjoy a brilliant product when it's right in front of you. There's a term for people that insist on making themselves miserable, it's called mental illness.

According to HHH, the ending for the main event got fucked up. So, that was not perfect storytelling. Johnny did apparently legit hurt himself.

Exactly. This is coming from a guy who spent last night wearing a Johnny Wrestling shirt to watch a match on TV. While it bummed me out, I understood were the storytelling was coming from, and this idea that you can't fight darkness with darkness is so good. This is not the version of Johnny Gargano that can beat Ciampa - that did beat Ciampa back in New Orleans. That match was great because it was pure karmic retribution; every big spot went Johnny's way. Ciampa never stood a chance there, but for these last two matches, Gargano's lost his way in a series of perfectly reasonable and understandable encounters, and now he's in a place where he's the bad guy. You're not supposed to get behind him, it's just that Ciampa's even worse. I don't know if it'll be War Games or if we're going to try to push this even a little further, but eventually Johnny Gargano is going to become Johnny Wrestling again, and that guy will win.

Incidentally, that's why I want their final encounter to be a wrestling match, with rules that have to be followed. I don't want to see who's the toughest or the meanest anymore - I want to know who's the best.

C'mon, you can't tell me you don't want Team Ciampa vs. Team Gargano vs. Team Black at WarGames.

If both Gargano and Black are out for a while with worked or real injuries, who becomes the top male babyface on NXT? Kassius Ohno? EC3? Ricochet? I don't see any of them being the next title contender.

This wan't one of my top Takeovers, but it was a hell of a lot of fun. Tyler Bate and Cesaro need to have a pound for pound strongest man competition. I also appreciate them started early and ending by ten since I had to work this morning. Very considerate.

It's the most important meal of the day.

The moment Johnny walked out I started shouting at my tv. OMG! His logo...It's been venomized! Dark Johnny! Fuck he's gonna die! Omg omg omg!"
My wife thought I had gone insane.
And this is after she told me people in our building probably called the police after my "OhMyGAAAwD" when Cole killed Richochet in mid-air"
But Ciampa/Gargano was great. I enjoy how they bring in old spots but change it up a little. They both bring so much personality into it. Like...the table spot..It seemed crazy but safe. But Johnny's face and demeanor when he stacked them in reverse, wtf man...
And yeah at the end..the story again kicked in and he ruined his chance. Ofcouse it was NEVER about the title in this match. Only about destroying eachother. Seriously. For me this is the feud of the decade. Did anyone believed these guys would headline 3 takeover events (and probably 4?) in a row when they showed up as tag team?

Dream/EC3 was the least impressive match of the night in my opinion and it was rock solid. I'm surprised Velveteen won, but he earned/needs it.
The tag match was very well paced and yeah it was interesting to see the UE guys being in control for most part and getting a good clear victory. War M-Raiders' attack after almost felt cheap. But damn those matches can be fun too.

Cole/Ricochet...the crowd was into it but seemed a bit quiet. Until THAT spot. OMG. And then the minute of pounding away. And then Ricochet showing how great he can be.
By the way, I really like that he hasn't been "Mr.-I flip a lot" since coming to WWE. He's more grounded which obviously is good for his (future) health and makes his spots more impressive. But also means his acrobatics aren't overly exposed. I mean, I loved him and Ospreay flying around but yeah it was fake as can be

Baszler-Sane was great. I enjoy Shana Baszler these days, she's really grown into her role as cocky bad ass bitch.
Sane brought it to her though. That part where they went strong style was awesome. The finish obviously leaves window for a good rematch but yeah Shana got outsmarted by a better wrestler tonight. Great.

Yeah once again. Fuck the WWE main roster PPV. It might be great but no way it's gonna beat TakeOver.

They've ruined other guys (Jack Gallagher #1) by WWEing their entire style & completely eliminating what makes them unique, but it looks like they aren't - thank God - going that way with King Ric. If they can make Ricochet a WWE-style wrestler while still keeping his appeal he'll be a headliner in short order. Also much credit to Cole for making that match - that's exactly the type of guy that can keep up with Ricochet but not devolve the match into a spot-fest.

I agree with dmp that the Dream/EC3 match was the least impressive, even though it was still very good. I thought that the Women’s title match was the best of the night in some ways, mostly for the feel good story of Kairi getting the job done in her first real chance at it. I also expect the rematch to be even better.
The main event was pretty great, with an ending that actually worked for me. Ciampa should be lucky at this stage as Gargano beat himself once again.
