Live from St. Louis, MO.

If you played a drinking game based around how many times the Greatest Most Excellent Royal Rumble of All Time Ever, you would have had alcohol leaking out of your pores by the end of the night.

Paul Heyman and Brock opened the show, and amidst the gloating and the oratory, they filled out an important plot hole - Roman got a title shot in a steel cage because Brock asked for it. It stretches logic, but it's something. Heyman's speech went on 10 minutes too long for my liking, and was eventually interrupted by Our Conquering Hero, who had five of the most obvious plants ever cheering him on. Roman promised to leave with the title, though he didn't know how. They stared at each other and backed off. I'm mentally checked out of this program, so I was ready to move onto the next thing.

They closed the show out with a 10-woman tag that was thrown together "to give the women's division the same opportunity that the men were given last week," forgetting that the men had a reason (albeit flimsy) to fight each other. The real reason was to give Ronda Rousey (who wasn't in the match) a spot to shine, as she came out to save Natalya from a Mickie James attack. Ronda is excellent at mean mugging, and if she keeps it MMA-lite in the ring, she looks real good in short bursts. Case in point: that ipponzei on Mickie. That looked killer. The match itself served no purpose, and you couldn't blame the girls for going at half speed and not looking particularly motivated out there. There was, however, a glorious pre-recorded Alexa promo about bullying (youtube.com), and I promise it will enrich your lives.

Sami and KO replaced the Miz's show with their own show, but had a little too much fun with guest Kurt Angle and wound up in a match against Braun and Lashley. That match went about as well as you'd think, and was really smartly structured. While I'm not a fan of KO and Sami being used as glorified enhancement talent, they are featured players, and Strowman is operating at a whole different level right now. As for Lashley, I think the jury is still out. He looks phenomenal, but he's 41, and I haven't really seen him go in the ring. If anyone followed Lashley in TNA, what can we expect from him?

A couple of upsets took place: Elias beat Bobby Roode and Chad Gable got a win over Jinder Mahal. Both could work as short-term midcard feuds, so no issues with that. I think the Elias/Roode matchup is a great opportunity to pull a double turn, which might benefit both performers - Roode is a better natural heel and he can play the character he played while debuting at NXT, and I think they are running out of things to do with Elias.

Drew McIntyre and Dolph made short work of Titus Worldwide, and issued a warning to the rest of the Raw roster, who are apparently going soft. I see a lot of parallels between Drew and Samoa Joe, in that Drew is too good and too much of a badass to keep heel for too long. It'll be interesting to see how they plan to achieve that. Speaking of heels, Baron Corbin pulled off some creative heeling - first laughing off a match with No Way Jose because he's looking for "serious competition," and then returning to sneak attack Jose when he's vulnerable. That Nodowa Otoshi looked good too. I like Corbin, I think he's more than serviceable, and this should be a benchmark feud for both him and Jose to see where their ceilings are on Raw.

The Deleter of Worlds had a fun (and surprisingly competitive) match against the Ascension. The spot where Matt has the audience applaud some impressive feat that the opponent pulls off is WONDERFUL.

I imagine most of WWE's current audience has never seen Bruno Sammartino perform, myself included. The tribute video that aired on Raw was so well made, though, that it made you feel like you missed out and cemented Bruno's place on the Mt. Rushmore of American professional wrestling.

I gotta say, this is a real return to form for Dolph Ziggler, a dude I had really written off at this point. I love the team with Drew; they had a bunch of cool tandem moves already, as well as the finisher, and everything about them works. They even fixed the stupid record-scratch sound effect in Dolph's entrance - now, it interrupts Drew's theme and cuts in Dolph's, so it finally makes sense!

Once Dolph stops shouting in interviews I will be with you. Drews promo was much better and made him look good.

Gable being the new 1-2-3 Kid could be interesting. He really is very good.

Holy cow, they ran Royal Rumble ads in a split screen during matches. They don't push Roman this obnoxiously.

The only time I saw Bruno in the ring was his late 80's feud with Macho Man. I remember thinking to myself at the time he was really really good and wondering what he did in his prime.

It may not be the popular opinion, but man I enjoyed Booker on commentary much more than Coach.

Lashley was the Franchise Player in TNA for 2016-17. Phenomenal wrestler, a beast in the ring, and a world class promo.

This was as a heel though. His babyface run was forgettable.
Not sure why WWE is using him as a smiling fan-sucking-up-to babyface.

This is the only opinion.
Coach was fine 10 years ago, but its pretty obvious he hasn't called anything live in ages. Booker T might not be the best commentator, but at least he is enthusiastic and is paying attention to the show.

They might realize he's drifting away and take some corrective action :)

Completely disagree. I'm not sold on Coach, but Booker T is wretched. Absolutely horrible. And I seriously question if he actually pays attention to the show with some of the things he says.

I'm with you on this.

I never got the hate for Booker-T on commentary. Coach just comes off as too vanilla for me. And when did Coach get all nasally sounding? I don't remember him in the past ever sounding like his head was always stuffed up.

Coach sounded like he had been away from the biz for a decade - which he has! Booker can be a bit ridiculous but he's more interesting for sure.

My wife & I have an ongoing running joke about Booker calling everyone a "kid," which he almost exclusively uses for people in their 30s. "This keed right here..." On Monday, he called 41-year-old Bobby Roode a "kid!"

The "diva" in the gold outfit (that she made herself...giggle) has the scariest face I've ever seen. Plus I wouldn't be bragging about an outfit that has to be tugged back into place every 30 seconds.
