Yes, we got the usual "these fans are insane and passionate and they'll do whatever but don't worry kids, we'll be back to regular fans soon enough" spiel at the beginning and then a couple more times through the night. The show itself was pretty breezy, though, which is more than what you can say for your average Raw. I had expected to be burned out on wrestling after the weekend, but I was surprised to enjoy most of this Raw.

There were a few flash debuts/returns:
- Ember Moon debuted as Nia's mystery partner and made quick work of Alexa and Mickie. The Eclipse got a nice pop, too. Alexa seemed to double down on the "she's fat" narrative and got booed out the building, so that was heartening.

- No Way Jose debuted, with a party train in tow, like the budget version of Adam Rose, and we know how that ended. He's been off TV forever, and the crowd was surprisingly muted for his appearance. He did a quick squash and danced his way to the back.

- Jeff Hardy returned to tag with Grinny Finn Balor and Seth Rollins in the Teddy Long Special main event against the Miztourage. And there was also a PHENOMENAL backstage segment with Woken Matt and his new BFF Bray Wyatt. As an aside, I totally wanted Deano to be the returning guy here, but I imagine his return will be (and absolutely fucking should be) made a bigger deal.

- Bobby Lashley returned and beat up on Elias. Lashley is a physical specimen and looked impressive.

- The Authors of Pain debuted, squashed Rhyno/Slater, and ditched Paul Ellering.

Speaking of tag teams, The Revival and Matt/Bray earned themselves a match next week to decide who faces The Bar for the vacant tag titles at Saudi. As it turns out, Nicholas had to return to school and could not continue his escapades as tag champ so he and Braun had to relinquish the titles. But Braun did promise that they'd be back as soon as Nicholas graduates, so look out for that in eight years (he's in 4th grade).

Paige retired. The crowd was supportive and it was a heartbreaking moment. I think the transition period is going to be tough for her, it's clear she loves the business and growing up in a wrestling family it's all she's known for her entire life. I hope she finds her way.

Steph tried to take credit for Ronda Rousey's successes and took an armbar for her troubles.

Sami and KO showed up, asking for jobs. Turned out that Kurt Angle has only one spot on the roster, so he made them fight for it, and can we just take a moment to point out how monu-fucking-mentally stupid that is?! I mean KO and Sami Zayn are walking into the door and you tell them you can only hire one?! The match wound up a double-CO so no one was hired. Bravo, Kurt Angle. How does this man still have a job?

Angle did get in the line of the night: "My tag division is full, but I hear TNA is hiring."

Sad Roman was sad. He whined and complained about finding out about his Saudi assignment only through the internet, which puts him in the same boat as the entire TV audience, and he was a pouty little bitch. So of course, Samoa Joe returned to cut a magnificent promo that was basically just a verbal evisceration of our conquering hero. Roman was left speechless, and Joe promised he'd be waiting for him at Backlash. Sign me up for that. In any case, I'm 100% certain Joe can do a lot more for Roman than Brock can, though I don't know if the WWE can see that. Also, Roman and Joe are almost guaranteed to put out a bangin' match, so there's always that to look forward to.

Superstar Shakeup is coming next week!

In Angle's defense, he said he was wary of KO and Zayn because of what they did to SmackDown's GM. They said they turned a corner, but Angle's notion had merit: He would get the better wrestler and prevent them from conspiring against as a tandem.

The announcers were horrible, and I suspect they were frazzled from a long weekend and the desperate efforts to repackage the crowd responses. But they did rightly make hay about how screwed Monday Night Rollins would be if he was moved to SmackDown.

Wanted to add how Elias must have been having the time of his life out there before Lashley hit. He had the crowd eating out of his hand; the "We Are Scumbags" chant had me rolling.

I don't mind heels doing Bad Things as long as it's made clear to the audience that they're Bad People doing Bad Things AND they get comeuppance for it. If Alexa had retained at Mania or, worse yet, the fans decided to side with Alexa since they think she's better looking, then there's more of a problem.

So was it just me, or was the gist of Roman Reigns's speech last night (before being interrupted by Joe) essentially "Yeah, I may have lost last night ... but if you give me shot after shot after shot, EVENTUALLY one of these times I'll pull out a win!"?

Otherwise, I thought it was a fun show with some good surprises and returns. I'm not a viewer of NXT, so I'm not sure about No Way Jose quite yet. And AoP leaving Paul Ellering at ringside just makes me think he (real-life) doesn't want to travel and had said from the start he didn't want to be part of their eventual call-up, rather than being a big shock or something since I'm not invested in the duo.

Honestly, I forgot Lashlet debuted last night til I saw a PS2 version of him on Twitter. No Taker, Cena or Brock. I still have no idea why they signed Brock for two years if he is never going to be there.

I took it more as "I was given a title shot I don't deserve because I was beaten cleanly at WrestleMania, but I'm still going to complain about this title shot I'm getting anyway." Woof.

Where have you seen the two-year figure? Anything I saw was missing a length -- which made some theorize that it was a short-term contract and Lesnar would be dropping the title in Saudi Arabia. Has the WWE announced a length to the contract?

I thought something else when they said these things.
It was more the "oh shit, your mom sent you a friend request on facebook??" thing for me. WWE now KNOWS that these shows are special and as a result books them that way and this makes them...planned?

Poor NoWay Jose. His entrance is the only thing ppl will care about.
AOP, good debut. But I'd preferred if Elering had walked away from them after a pat on the shoulders.
The triple tag main event was solid.
Nicolas and Braun giving up the titles was amusing.
KO vs Zayn was good (and the backstage skit was funny)
Ember's debut was good, she looked dominant. Joe is awesome and Roman just isn't.
Hardy and Bray seems like a fun couple. I enjoyed it and hope it makes Bray fresher. Rousey..I like how she seems
to enjoy the crowd response. She cannot stop smiling.
Steph's selling was amazing and helps Rhonda look good.

Oh btw, Greatest Royal Rumble is as bad a name as Great Balls of Fire.

They surely just have to give up and accept that Roman isn't the way to go. It's like they have realised it twice now and changed plans at the last minute, but then think that they must have got it wrong and go back to making him everyones favourite. First time Seth came out and cashed in out of nowhere, and now Brock beats him clean. Either turn him heel or write him off of TV for 6 months or so and hope people like him when he returns. He wouldn't get a HHH reaction back in 02, but very few could.

I thought the fans were going with the script most of the way apart from Roman. Only Elias got a reaction they might not have wanted, but that is not much of a shock or rare.

Other stand out moments were the TNA line from Angle which really shocked me, Lashley coming out looking good, Ember & AOP getting a good reaction but I think dMp had it right with letting Ellering let them go on their own and looking like he had achieved what he wanted. No Way Jose might get traded back to NXT next week.

The WWE hasn't announced the length of the Lesnar contract. But in fairness, Sporting News is reporting it's a multi-year deal: http://www.sportingnews.com/wwe/news/brock-lesnar-wwe-contract-resigns-raw-wrestlemania-universal-champion-ufc-next-fight/19ltwd7zgc19r1pcktvdmqup21

The way modern news seems to work, they're probably basing the multi-year part on lotjx's post above.

I don't like Braun giving up the titles, now he's aimless again. I think they go all in with him at the Greatest Royal Rumble and have him eliminate 15-20 guys. The bad thing is if it's Royal Rumble style, 50 guys would take forever. On the other hand a lot of low card guys means they come in, do there 2-3 min Schick, and get tossed.

I thought Owens would win and we'd see El Generico on Smackdown. He tweeted as him recently.

I think the Greatest Royal Rumble ad spoiled Joes return.

I hope only 4-5 wrestlers get switched on the shake up. If you send half of Smackdown to RAW what's the point.

What the heck IS the goal of winning the Greatest Royal Rumble anyway? Shouldn't it be for a title shot...it's a total waste of the Best Gimmick Match in All of Pro Wrestling if it's just a Big Battle Royal...but overseas!

I was hoping Sami and Kevin would both get Raw contracts only to get drafted back to Smackdown.

No Way Jose will be a great house show act.

I was just ranting at the lack of internal logic, though Matt Tracker did lay out a defense of Kurt's actions.

RAW and the WWE haven't been my bag lately... but this genuinely made me laugh hard:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXCo7HX6N8g

I hope they have fun with this and have them go in and out of "character".

Kevin Kelly: "Mr. Austin, would you like to comment on Wade Keller's Take that endorsing the XFL hurts your anti-authority character?"

Steve Austin: "Oh shit, he actually said that? I thought the boys in the back were ribbing me!"

Kelly: "No, he really said that. Did they tell you the part about you sitting in the stands, looking all skeptical?"

Austin: "AHAHAHAHAHAHA. Yeah... oh man that was too much."

Like they did with Corporate Kane a few years back? Sounds good to me.

The only thing that would have made that better was if at the very end it went like this:

Balor - "What was THAT all about?"

Jeff - "Tables, Ladders and Chairs, man. Not even ONCE!"
