I'm happy to organize a prediction contest for the MYC. I have to recuse myself from actually participating though, because I read a little too far and too much in an issue of WON and I know both finalists.
Thanks for putting this together. This is a hard tournament to call - there are a lot of really talented women. I ultimately went with Dakota Kai to take the crown, but there are at least four others that I think have a really good shot.
It is hard to pick winner in this bunch of talent but I'll try i'm going with Shayna Baszler she is by far one of the toughest in the tournament and a logical choice
(edited by yamcharulez on 21.8.17 2050) Dont say its not worth it, when you can sleep with no fear, that kind of time is worth any thing.- FFX
This was actually really hard, there are so many good choices here. Ultimately, I ended up going with Candace LeRae- but it could be anyone's win. I really hope Abbey Laith goes far, because she looks EXACTLY like my sister-in-law. I almost picked her for the win based on that alone. I am also super pumped about them finally get a lady referee. I've been bitching for years about the lack of women refs, and it's about time.
It's the most important meal of the day.

Agreed. I don't know what they plan to do but if the WWE were to sign say 5-6 of these women I think the NXT women would be better than the main roster women. The main roster have the best of course, but it's also very top heavy.
Has Shayna been signed yet? If they haven't signed her it seem inevitable but I was just curious if they have officially signed her or not.
Any first or second round matches anyone is looking forward to? Kairi vs. Tessa looks like the best first round match to me and a potential 2nd round match of Mia vs. Shayna could be really good.
There's been no announcement that Shayna signed, but people have noticed that she's stopped taking indie bookings so it'll probably be happening eventually. WWE may be just waiting until this thing gets rolling to announce any new deals.
I went with fellow New Yorker Marti Bell, and generally picked according to the logic of "a profile means 2+ wins, and in-studio interview means 3+ wins" which were pretty much my only clues.
The tournament seems really Aussie/Kiwi heavy. Between that & the three (more?) Aussies currently signed the E should just move the Performance Center to Melbourne.

I liked Bell a lot; in fact, I almost picked her to go all the way. I still think she's got a hell of a future if she's even half decent in the ring. The heavy concentration of talent from Down Under is actually why I went with Kai. I figured that it indicated the WWE wanted to move more on that market, so a champ from the region seemed like the way to go.
The contest page has been updated with all first round winners.
Thanks to all who participated, and thanks CRZ for fixing the England and Scotland flags.
We have fifteen total entries.
Who was picked the most as the tournament winner?
-Shayna Baszler was picked five times -Dakota Kai was picked four times -Kairi Sane was picked three times -Marti Belle, Ayesha Raymond and Candice LeRae were each picked once
Three participants have the same Final Four.
Baszler vs. Sane was the most picked finals match (five times)...the MYC version of Kota Ibushi vs. Zack Sabre Jr.
In all, 25 of 32 women were picked to be part of the Final Four.
That was a dirty f***ing trick to have a profile and in-studio interview for someone who got jobbed out in the first round (Marti Bell), plus another profile for another first round jobber (Jazzy Gabert). Blew my entire bracket!
I think the E learned from the previous tournaments that they kind of telegraph the results by doing this, so good on them for switching it up. Plus it lets more of the competitors get some shine (some people get a lot of in-ring time, some get mic/profile time, instead of just a few people getting both), and builds up some heat for the people who pulled off the "upsets."
I should have seen Bell coming when she was matched up against Rachel Evers, but had to pull for my NYC labelmate. Still, I'd be surprised if they're done with Bell after how hard they profiled her.

If Meltzerman 5000 is to be believed, they called an audible and changed the finish mid match to the Bell match because she was... let's do this politely... lacking.
Episodes one and two were around NXT filler level most of the time but man oh man was 3 good (almost or about CWC classic good) and 4 was solid as well, the Gargano Family and Sane's elbow drop delivered the goods.
I hope Sage is given a chance because NXT doesn't have a good, solid, brickhouse brawler in the women's division.
I wonder if this was supposed to lead to a Women's show before 205 Live landed like a lead balloon and profit margins moved the UK Show to October 19, 20??.
Finally caught up on all four episodes, so I can check in and see how I'm doing. Not bad! I almost completely blew the second episode, so I thought I'd be in a lot worse shape.

I thought of you specifically when I saw that finish. That was an absolutely brutal bracket-buster, although I kind of respect the decision to keep us on our toes.

I can't imagine why that would be the case. Bell was fine in that match. Not incredible or anything, but fine. And have you seen the footage of that Evers match on the indies where she just shits the bed completely? I was really, really surprised that they advanced Evers, even though I think she's going to be a real asset down the line.

I think you might be mis-remembering how good the first round of the CWC was. There were really only two memorable matches that I can think of: Ibushi/Alexander and Kendrick/Mendoza. One that was legit good, and one with a good story. Gabert/Laith had a good story, and that Sane/Blanchard match was the unquestionable main event of the first round. I'd love to see what those two could do with twice as much time. I'd say that so far, the MYC is right on par with the CWC, and the second round is shaping up to be something really spectacular.

I kind of hope so? Because 205 is absolutely the best wrestling show that WWE produces, even though nobody watches it, apparently. It's a nice, brisk hour show, and you're guaranteed at least one good match and one great match every episode, maybe two great matches if you're lucky. Feuds get to progress at their own pace, since they're not planning toward a PPV, and the blowoffs happen when you need them. There's no stalling. So, with the amount of incredible talent I've seen from the women so far, I'd love for them to get their own show. But it's probably most likely that the plan is to just sign a bunch of these women, and run them through NXT up to the main roster.
Nous ne nous pouvons pas sortir. Great second set of episodes/matches.
Really solid booking to turn Baszler heel by having her beat arguably the most likable girl in the tournament though really it's a two horse race between Janey Wrestling and Kairi since Dakota Kai got rid of the Sailor Moon Meatballs and paid the price.

No idea, that's just what Dave and Bryan "THETWUZAWWSOMMME" Alvarez said.

I am almost certainly mis-remembering the first round of the CWC, but 1. The green workers' matches were kept/edited shorter 2. You are forgetting the Johnny Gargano/Toyota Camry MOTY candidate

I miss having days between Raw and Smackdown. Even using Raw as background noise, 4 shows in 3 days is too much and even though 205 was good I just fell behind because I rushed to use SD to wash the taste of Raw out of my mouth and I need need need my NXT fix.
I really wish the "Cruisers on one show, Women on the other idea" some people had had been combined with my "Women's tag team titles" idea because not only do we have the Iconic Duo ready to be called up, this tournament gave us a bunch of interesting potential pairs like Candace/Dakota, Dakota/Piper, Dakota/anyone really, Piper/anyone, Toni/Rhea, Nicole/Mia, and a lot of newer workers like Xia, Bianca, Vanessa, and Rhea who'd do well to be paired up with a veteran and seasoned ala making Batista tag with Flair or Roman with Rollins/Ambrose.
Originally posted by andy1278I am all in on Dakota Kai. Man, she is just magnetic.
Everyone's been talking about Kairi having the best elbow (rightfully so) but what has gone unnoticed is Dakota's kick might be the best right now. Super kicks are just played out and too many people are doing Pele kicks now. But Dakota's finisher is a fun variation and better than the Helluva kick in my opinion.
Originally posted by andy1278 Also they need to keep Jazzy around. She can fill the Nia Jax role times ten.
I had Jazzy in the semi-finals so I thought this was the role she was going to play.

I love the idea of a women's tag division. It's too bad they changed their mind on Io Shirai and (so far) haven't signed Kay Lee Ray b/c they have history tagging with Kairi and Nixon Newell (currently on the NXT DL) so that'd be two more pretty experienced teams. Mia and Marti were also in the Dollhouse together in TNA. I love the idea of a Candice/Dakota team. Of course this would be even better on the main roster with teams of Sasha/Bayley, Nia/Alexa and Charlotte/Becky. Actually scratch that I'd like to see Sasha with Bianca, Bayley with Kairi and Charlotte with Tessa.
I thought the opening promo by Taker was kind of flat, he seemed like he was making it up as he went along... Also the crowd was so dead during the Booker T match I thought the arena had emptied.
