Austin Aries, whom I feel is one of the best wrestlers in the world, has just been wished well in his future endeavors by WWE. Wow, missed opportunity with him.

WONF4W is among those saying this was Aries asking out.

It sounds like he was unhappy being typecast as a 205 guy and requests to join the main roster were turned down. He got the WrestleMania appearance, there probably wasn't all that much left for him in 205 unless they turned him heel, and just being on 205 alone seems like death.

He's built for better things than just being stuck on 205. I'm sure he'll absolutely clean up on the indy scene. He'd also make a perfect Bullet Club member.

Look, I wouldn't want to be a permanent 205 Live guy either and Aries being Aries it's amazing he stuck around this long. If nothing else he built his brand a little before doing the indie circuit again. I guess I'm most interested to see the workload he takes on. Does he go full Callihan and Rhodes and do everything or does he do the Ryback and take the easy gigs.

Hopefully the door had been left open for him to come back and do color commentary some day.

*slow clap*

I enjoyed his run there but I wish he'd stayed on color...he was outstanding. And he's turning 40 within the next year so it would've been a great move, career-wise. Ah well, hopefully he'll come back to it someday.

RIP to the CW Division. Glad, I picked up his figure when I did. Doubt they will be making that again. 205 and this entire CW experiment has appears to be viewed as a thing small guys with weird accents to get an extra hour of content on the network that barely has content.

Typical WWE start-stop push. Don't blame him for wanting out.

Had a great start with beating Baron Corbin on his way out, then they slotted him with the Cruiserweights on a show that was going nowhere in a title program with Neville that went nowhere, and then he's out the door.

Wondering if he had that typical "poor attitude" first or if it was the result of terrible booking. He really should have beaten Neville at WrestleMania or at some point during their feud.

WWE should be building that belt around a strong babyface who people will pop for and this extended Neville run isn't helping to get people excited, though I do like Neville more with it, it's coming at the expense of everyone else.

and then this switched the other way - Aries may have asked to be let go, but this was more WWE cutting the cord with a guy who everyone was annoyed with. His match with Neville being left off the WM DVD was apparently a sore point. Aries is allowed to be back on TV as soon as October - Aries had a three year deal which they could've held him too if it was only him quitting. So they were happy to let him go too.

Aries, long before he came to WWE, had a rep of being a prickly guy to deal with and having issues at one time or another with pretty much every promotion he worked with, so I guess we should've seen this as the ending. I do kind of wonder if he was led to believe his 205 stint was only going to be a short term thing (to give Neville an opponent they liked) and then was even more unhappy to find out he was stuck there.

Aries has seemed like a guy who had enough of indie wrestling and wrestling entirely at times - he'd fit in GFW as a guy Jarrett knows and would want to bring back, but I could more see him doing a quick round of bookings cashing in on his name and checking out.

I sometimes wonder what goes on in the heads of WWE talent and WWE talent relations.
So many guys stay for years and years without getting any significant stories or tv time.
It seems like both sides are content with that.
I understand job security & stability is important.
But you'd think with wrestling being such a weird business you're not just happy playing 35th fiddle.

So this is refreshing in a way.
A guy that isn't happy speaks up and they let him go.

I've Always enjoyed Aries and I also enjoyed his NXT/WWE runs. And who knows..maybe he can someday be a trainer and commentary guy?

"Well I tell you what I'd do Mauro, I'd stick my thumb in his eye."

Fingers crossed he returns as a commentator someday.

I *think* Scotty's in the "work out OVW till they find a spot to work him in" pergatory, and Billy should be at the same stage soon.
