The fuck. Well, this is Lynch at his most Lynch. Long shots with no cuts. Weird talking brains and no explanation of what the hell is going on. Let me start the wild speculation theories.
Agent Dale Cooper is still stuck in the lodge and has been for 20 odd years. Everyone in Twin Peaks has gotten older. So, old like the Log Lady who passed away a few months ago. God, that was heart breaking. She at least sets Hawk on the path to maybe get Cooper back. It even looks like maybe the White Lodge is trying to help him, but like chaos ensues and he is sent through out time or space.
Dale/Bob we will call him is committing crimes all over the place with weird people. He is going to break into a Federal Prison for some reason maybe get someone on out. He may have also killed Briggs? I am not sure, but he sure as shit killed a bunch of women. No shocker there.
As for what the hell was in that box. Maybe the aliens? Maybe the brain doppelganger? Who the fuck knows. The person funding it maybe the FBI or the guy in Las Vegas? I have no clue.
I'm still scratching my head over last night's episode.
So I guess the fact that I'm still thinking about it is something more than I do with most shows I watch.
Having been a huge Twin Peaks fan back in the day, this left me feeling disappointed. I think the main reason behind those feelings is that with the original, the characters were likeable. I remember being drawn in right away and interested in each of the various characters and story lines. Last night, I never felt that way. Once the novelty of seeing an old character was over I really didn't seem to care what has happening.
Episode 3 and 4 felt more like the regular Twin Peaks. Especially 4. There is a lot of callbacks to Fire Walk With Me in parts 1 and 2. I have been seeing some fan sites suggesting 1 and 2 is in the same vein as Fire Walk. Its dark moody and really weird at times. I saw that and felt that 3 had all the craziness of season two and finally episode 4 especially with Wally Brando is full on Twin Peaks quirky.
When you get done with the first four, you have a better idea what is going and the stakes. I am still not sure about what was in the box, what that second body was in the hotel and who this mysterious person in Vegas is. Episode 4 has my favorite returning character moment. So, fucking meta in that scene. God I loved it. I can't wait to see what the rest of the series does.
I think that A) People may be getting Wolverine fatigue, and B) The name is horrible. It needed a sub-title, I wager a lot of people don't even know this is a different movie.
