Never in my life have I ever liked or wanted to see Randy Orton. Tonight changes that.
Are the creative people FINALLY listening to the boos? Do they get the point that nobody likes Roman? Every punch he landed both in his match with Owen's and the RR match was met with 52000 boos. Turn the guy NOW.

Overall a decent PPV. Nothing was too hideous or out of place but they probably could have fit he entire pre show matches into the time they had.way too much filler killed the momentum.

Thoughts?

Of the 27 people that made a Rumble prediction on this board, 11 of them (including me) picked someone who wasn't in the match. Nobody picked Orton to win.

I got my $2.50 out of it (figuring $2.50 for Takeover, $2.50 for Fastlane, and $2.50 for random stuff I watch from the archives during the month (so far it's been Smokey Mountain Wrestling and Camp WWE), though nothing has especially interested me in continuing my subscription, though I'll probably still do so through Wrestlemania so I don't have to bother with cancelling and resubscribing again.

Orton deserves this win for making the Wyatts interesting and letting Brock split his head open. I can't believe I'm okay with an Orton win here.

Great show! They set up a ton of stuff tonight. It's going to be tough for them to top this show the rest of the year or the Cena-Styles match for that matter. I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a major WWE event this much.

Is Randy vs Cena fresh enough again to main event Mania?

Corbin eliminating Braun sets them up for an ARMBaR show down?

No Kane makes me sad. This was kinda one of his things. No big surprises either. Wasn't expecting a Omega even though 30 is the omega position. Wasn't expecting a HBK or Angle either. But no Joe or Finn. So Roman vs Braun is at Roadblock? Or whatever the RAW PPV is named.

He calls himself handsome Rusev on RAW. Then gets his nose broke. At the Rumble he has a mask. If they aren't calling his "Dashing" Rusev by Monday they have missed the boat.

Jericho spend 45 of his 60 laying outside.

Have they ever done this spot? When like 3-4 guys go out in a group have a guy roll outside and Kay down like he was part of it then return later to the match?

Now here's where I get passed. I get we are to suspend disbelief. I get it was no DQ so Owens could get the pin fall and not a DQ loss due to Braun. Why then did Jericho have to sneak brass knuckles in? And even worse why did Owens stop using them? The ref didn't even take them. Owens had to kick them out of the way and they were never touched again.

Looking around online, I'm stunned by how many are dismissing Orton/Cena at Wrestlemania. This is TOTALLY something Vince would want. Orton/Cena was supposed to be the Rock/Austin of this time. But there hasn't been a definitive match between those two. There's also a 99% chance that this will be Cena's last "Full Time" year in the WWE so maybe Vince thinks it's time to pull the trigger on this.

BTW, man has Ambrose fallen. 12 months ago, he was the last one eliminated, on his way to a program with Lesnar. Now, he gets tossed like some jobber and is probably going to be in a mixed tag, getting overshadowed by his girlfriend.

Kevin Kelly: "Mr. Austin, would you like to comment on Wade Keller's Take that endorsing the XFL hurts your anti-authority character?"

Steve Austin: "Oh shit, he actually said that? I thought the boys in the back were ribbing me!"

Kelly: "No, he really said that. Did they tell you the part about you sitting in the stands, looking all skeptical?"

Austin: "AHAHAHAHAHAHA. Yeah... oh man that was too much."

Yeah, everyone seems to think Bray is going to win the title at Elimination Chamber to avoid Cena/Orton but I don't buy it. AJ was the best thing in the company in 2016 and they're going to take the title off him so Cena can hold the title for 2 weeks? I don't know maybe we're headed for a Cena/Orton/Bray threeway where either Orton finally turns on Bray or Bray finally wins the title, but Cena losing the title in 2 weeks seems unlikely.

I liked most the show but there were definitely some weird moments in the Rumble. I get it, Tye Dillinger has a gimmick where he yells 10, that's clever or whatever, but he lost the opener of NXT Takeover. He was the least important guy at NXT and that's the one guy that makes the Rumble? Was it really that great to pop the 0.01% of people that care about Tye Dillinger? I think they continue to be delusional about just how small a percentage of fans care about NXT.

Making KO vs. Reigns about Strowman vs. Reigns but then making the Rumble about Reigns vs. Taker was weird, but I guess Reigns needs two opponents for Fastlane and then WM, since this is the Reigns show it is more important to set up his next two matches rather than set up anybody else's next match.

Ambrose might have fallen down the card but I like him more. I think the Miz feud is really good and the Ambrose/Zayn sgement and Ambrose/Ellsworth bit both made me laugh. I think he's just a little out of his depth has a main eventer but upper midcard is right in his wheelhouse.

Edited to add: no Rollins at all? Seriously?

For all the hype about the 'eight unannounced entries,' it ended up being basically all the regulars from Raw and Smackdown, except for Dillinger. Hell, Kalisto and Crews were in the SD battle royale for a Rumble spot that Mojo won, yet they end up with slots anyway?

Reigns was an awful choice at #30. Debut Samoa Joe. Debut Nakamura (well, maybe not after last night's injury angle). Bring back Angle for a cheap pop. Bring in Triple H, giving himself the last entry number again, only to have Rollins attack him and cause HHH to be eliminated quickly.

George Michael weighed his options. Maeby had chastised him for not taking risks, and what would be a bigger risk than perpetuating a lie about software just to ignite the passions of a woman? Of course it would be a lie, and since Maeby wouldn't know it was a lie, he wouldn't appear to be taking a risk. Perhaps the bigger risk was to tell his father he was lying, that he came up with it because he wanted his father to leave so he could enjoy what remained of his senior year. After all, he wondered, wouldn't that be the course of action taken by an overtly sexual man, a man who owns a pair of matador pants? He had not responded now for 41 seconds according to his unfailing internal clock, and it was time to come clean.

I was really enjoying the Rumble until Reigns came out at #30. Completely took the air out of the room and I think it also did at the arena.

I thought it was a great Rumble, because a guy won no one saw coming. It also gives them time to play around with the Wyatt Family since we have nine weeks til Mania. I thought Bayley losing clean was disappointing. I have this bad feeling that Vince only sees money in Charlotte, because of her name and he really doesn't care about anyone else. I have no idea who wrestled AJ in the last ten minutes of the match, but that was not John Cena. Fucking Cena, he goes out and gives a hell of a performance then kills any goodwill with his easy as pie mugging and forever celebration.

Taker/Reigns is now a sure thing. Which is fine, because people are going to boo Reigns anyway.

This is such a terrible take. Reigns took the heat for eliminating Undertaker and made the pop for Randy Orton winning that much sweeter. You people act like Reigns came in at 30 and immediately eliminated 29 other guys. Get a grip people.

Nope, Kallisto and Crews were not in the Battle Royale, so I pretty much expected them to be in the Royal Rumble because of that. Enzo is a head scratcher though. Why announce Big Cass is in it but not Enzo? You swap him and Reigns for two surprises then that'd be great. I wasn't looking for all 8 spots to be surprises.

Completely agree. Another thing that ruined the Rumble for me.

Doesn't this make 3 years in a row that the Rumble had an ending that fans disliked?

When the buzzer for number 30 hit, I was expecting Samoa Joe. Instead, I got a Samoan called Joe.

All in all, a good show. Somewhat confusingly booked, but still good.

Right, but you posted about Roman at #30, not a possible Orton-Cena match. So, you totally changed the subject on your crummy take then quoted Wade Keller\_(ツ)_/¯

Orton/Cena would be tough to dismiss most times, because of their history. And even, if you were thinking one would change, it'd be Orton who would be easier to swap out of those two. Cena winning and then quickly losing a title would feel strange and the Rumble always seems to lock the top WM guys in their spots, at the cost of making the February PPVs a little meaningless. In the normal course of things, Luke Harper or maybe Bray Wyatt cost Orton his title shot to Cena's 'real' WM challenger and those guys do their thing at early in the night at WrestleMania.

But, if you told me last week that Orton was winning the Rumble, I would've thought you were crazy. And when Meltzer said "Orton wins, faces Bray for the title at WM", I thought HE was crazy. He got half of it right, so I'm afraid to question him on this one. And as much Orton/Cena had been the ultimate WWE match (non-guest star category), they've moved far away from it in recent years and it's not the Cena Wrestling Dream Camp match that they like to do at WrestleMania. There's another shoe to drop here.

(OTOH, the paid insiders seemed to have no idea about the little golf cart that was transporting the larger people from the ramp to the ring so they're not perfect either.)

I honestly can't remember, but did they even mention John Cena to close the show? I thought it was all about the renewal of Orton, Orton going to Wrestlemania, etc. -- and not one mention of his opponent. I thought that was a little odd. To be fair, I was only paying half attention at that point as I was trying to decide if I wanted to stay up and watch another episode of Sneaky Pete.

I agree with BigDaddyLoco that the Reigns entry was meant as a very strong red herring. While I'm also confused by WWE setting up two feuds for Reigns out of the night, I think putting an "oh no, not again" air into things was a good misdirection.

Surprised there were no major injuries last night. A few people seemed to take some really rough bumps to the outside. Strowman seemed a little careless a few times, to be honest.

Oh, and speaking of dual opponents -- Strowman has both Reigns and now Corbin as potential opponents, though Corbin is likely more long-term. That was quite the elimination Corbin had, though.

Not much talk of Goldberg taking out Lesnar in record time again. Is that already played? How do they go from here to Wrestlemania?

The main event last year was Triple H vs Roman Reigns. How is Cena/Orton any worse than that?
