STAMFORD, Conn. — WWE has suspended Saraya-Jade Bevis (Paige) for 60 days effective immediately, for her second violation of the company’s talent wellness policy.
She's taking it well.

Her suspension ended a couple weeks ago and she went to at least one Raw show, though she wasn't cleared to compete. They must've drug tested her immediately.

Her father gave an explanation for the situation:

If we go with that, Paige knew she would be flagged next time she got tested, but thought her prescription would give her a waiver. And it didn't because - reasons?

Should a publicly traded company care about the apparent double standards and loop holes in their drug policy or nah?

Way back when Rey Mysterio got suspended, he claimed it was for a legitimate prescription that he wasn't able to inform the office of because he came off the injured reserve early in order to jump onto a European tour that was short handed after someone else got hurt. His story made it seem like there was a specific procedure you had to follow upon receiving a prescription and that you had to have notified the office of said prescription prior to the test. So it could be something along those lines.

Alternatively, she might have just become so sick of the company that she's intentionally shooting for the third failure in order to get blackballed, allowing her to join Alberto on the road. I kind of hope this is it just to force them to deal with a third strike for once.

My first thought was she must have planned this and wanted this as the chances of getting a second strike that close to the first must be pretty slim. Maybe she has had enough and wants out so she can go with Alberto across the world. Lots of people have been stuck in jobs and wanted to get out without a way out so maybe she has seen an opportunity and taken it. Alternatively she is taking a legal medication to get over her injury and has been harshly dealt with, possibly for the second time.

Paige has been entertaining and had some great moments, but if you have had enough then you have had enough. Maybe down the line she will decide it is actually what she wants to do, or maybe she will decide becoming Mrs Del Rio is what she wants. I guess as long as she is happy with that then we can't disagree.

I read that she said it was not for a failed test (that's what the first one was supposedly for) but for not submitting a sample on time.

Her family's side of the story is that she's on prescribed painkillers (for her ongoing neck injury, which according to family is "career-threatening") from a non-WWE, third-party doctor. WWE does not approve this medication and therefore considers that Paige is violating the wellness policy.

Here's Cageside Seats (cagesideseats.com). I don't see a source link on their page.

The WWE came back with a statement of their own, I don't remember this ever happening before

“Saraya-Jade Bevis tested positive for an illegal substance, not a prescription drug. In addition, WWE is providing world-class medical care for her in-ring injury.”

Eva Marie's story was she didn't have her paperwork handled. Paige's story the first time was she couldn't make it to a tester in time. Of course, they all could simply be fiction. WWE says Paige lied.

I'd be really surprised if Paige wrestled in WWE again any time in the next few years - I hope she doesn't turn into Sunny. (It's also possible WWE won't let her go - Meltzer's says WWE's refused to give out a third strike to those they thought were trying to use it to get out of their contract, and it's clear Paige doesn't want to be in WWE right now.)

I love the corporate world:
"We have this world-class health care structure and wellness process so our employees independant contractors can be the best they can be, for themselves and for you. Our employee's wellness is our highest priority! (Well, yeah - beside the image we want to present, but still top five.) Unless of course the cause of your wellness issues is working for us, in which case SCREW YOU DRUGGIE!"

I hate modern "statements". They're all about The Message and persuasion. To the point of being barefaced lies if the communications manager think they can get away with it. I wouldn't put it past the WWE to consider Vicodin (for example) that was purchased from a British pharmacy with a British perscription to be 'illicit'.

Well... it would be. If you need a prescription, you're supposed to get it from a WWE doctor so that they know (at least in theory) that you're not abusing the substance.

I mean, I'm sure WWE is selective about who is subject to the wellness policy and how it's enforced. But according to how it's written, you can't just get a prescription from anyone for anything and call it good.

Is Brock Lesnar wrestling this year? He is, so WWE needs to STFU about their policies. She getting the same world class care that almost killed Punk?

How about the possibility that Paige has a real problem and needs help?

How about the possibility that WWE wants an approved doctor prescription because they don't want people going to Dr. Nick Riviera to get prescriptions for cocaine?

WWE might have a double standard. It's also possible that Brock has never failed a WWE drug test, but did fail a UFC drug test. Does the WWE policy state that if you take a test somewhere else and fail it applies to WWE?

Okay, so we all know that:

1) The Wellness Policy exists only to protect the corporate liability of WWE, its shareholders and subsidiaries.

but:

2) How many active performers have died since they implemented it?

Seriously, I can't think of anybody, and this was a pretty regular occurrence through the 90s and the early 00s. The closest that I can come to is Umaga, who refused rehab after his second strike and died of an overdose. The WWE isn't above playing dumb-ass games with its "independent contractors," but the Wellness Policy is something were the corporation's best interests actually benefit the performers (most of the time), and as such is just about the one area where I'm willing to give WWE the benefit of the doubt.

and the lawyer for Alberto's wife says Alberto still hasn't gotten divorced.

This story is no longer funny to me and just kind of sad.
