So, after two excruciating weeks of hyping up "The Demon King" (primarily by having Seth Rollins say "Demon King" roughly 7,400 times), they build to the huge Summerslam unveiling of Finn Balor's Demon King persona by...having him show up and unveil the Demon King persona and do the full entrance.

So, to sell us on the Rusev vs. Reigns at Summerslam, they end the show with...a full Rusev vs. Reigns match complete with a clean finish.

So, to sell us on the culmination of the Cesaro vs. Sheamus feud, they...book a Best of Seven series to start at Summerslam after several weeks of the two of them having matches.

If the rumors are true that Vince hasn't been at tapings, is there any chance we can get him to come back? Those are some really, really strange booking decisions, right? Doing a full Reigns vs. Rusev match with a clean finish to set up a Reigns vs. Rusev match for six days later (presumably without a clean finish) is truly mind-boggling - although it does have precedent, as Reigns did beat Rollins cleanly on Raw to set up a Reigns/Rollins match two years ago (that one, notably, didn't happen, as Reigns got hurt and vanished off TV for months.)

I've said on here several times that if you can't make money off Finn Balor, you probably shouldn't be a wrestling promoter and, well, whichever mysterious person is booking this Rollins/Balor feud - whomever that may be! - should maybe go down to developmental for a bit. Rollins calling out "Finn Balor" as a fake name earlier was a "Cena says Del Rio rents his cars" level headscratcher, and that just being a set up to Rollins saying "Demon King" so often that the words lost meaning (and, notably, just sounded like "Demon Kane" anyway) made it twice as weird. On top of that, they go out of their way to try to sell the Demon King persona as this unchecked, dangerous version of Balor, but when he finally shows up - spoiling the look and entrance six days before the non-NXT watchers are supposed to be tuning in to see it - he just kinda comes out, does a few moves and then crouches in the ring and lets Rollins back away safely.

Why are they even doing the Demon this early? It should be the nuclear option for Balor, the thing that only shows up when he absolutely needs it. Balor has to win on Sunday now because his Ultimate Final Form losing immediately would ruin him, but why not have Balor wrestle an awesome match against equally awesome Seth Rollins, lose after Rollins takes a shortcut, and chase him until...oh, I dunno, let's say there's a Raw Brand PPV scheduled for the actual day right before Halloween that has a built in Hell In A Cell main event that would trap Rollins in the cage with a literal wrestling Demon?

Even if you want to do the Demon now, couldn't they have Rollins finally bump into Balor backstage in his regular leather jacket look, only Balor turns around and has the Demon Face right as Raw ends? Why give it away fully on Raw (minus the smoke, I guess, which will help it look a little less goofy)? Come on, man, booking Actual Anime Demon Prince shouldn't be hard.

With Stephanie coming out and defending Foley with zero irony in the opening segment and then Foley cursing us with at least SEVEN MORE Sheamus vs. Cesaro matches, I'm willing to just assume now that Mick is supposed to be a full heel.

In other news, some guy in a hardhat ran in during Rollins' promo and Rollins just kinda stared at him and someone made Cole cover it by saying "Rollins is in a trance!" which made me laugh (Rollins kinda sorta eventually recovered and covered for it, I guess).

Also, I think The Club microwaved Big E's balls or something? I don't know.

Also, Nia Jax did the Alberto Del Rio "push someone off the top rope to the floor" spot, which looks (and I assume is) brutal, so big-ups to the indy talent for taking that spot, because damn.

Is that it? I think that's it. Charlotte was there and such. I don't know. SUMMERSLAM! OH YEAH! PARTY OF THE SUMMER, BABY!

Edited to add:
Oh no, wait! THE BEAST BROCK LESNAR was there and they almost had a full segment I really liked, as Heath Slater(!) interrupted a Brock Lesnar/Paul Hemyan promo (!!) to reveal that he had to wrestle and beat Brock Lesnar to get a contract. Heath and Brock(!) actually cut a really cool little promo angle with Slater openly admitting that there's no way he could ever beat Brock, but he still had to have the match to put food on the table for his many children (later clarified as two daughters - unnamed, but I am suggesting that, in canon, they should be "Heather Slater" and "Sheath Slater"). And Brock, in a fully serious demeanor, seems to briefly become an actual human being and asks Slater into the ring, admitting that he, too, has kids so he understands where Slater is coming from...only "I DON'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT YOUR KIDS!"

I marked. This was awesome.

Brock then completely destroyed Slater, and this is where I'd like to suggest an improvement, because I think it would have been awesome if Slater had crawled back into the ring after Brock and Heyman started their promo back up, only to get destroyed again. But then Slater crawls back in once more, and now he can't even get up off the mat, but he has to keep trying, so Brock, finally with as much respect as he can muster, just kinda goes kicks him out of the ring like a piece of trash, only that's when Orton appears for an RKO outta nowhere, drags Slater's corpse on top of Brock and Slater gets a win and a contract and everyone marks out like crazy.

(Alternate ending: the third time Slater crawls back into the ring, it's Orton in disguise as Slater, complete with fake hair and the same outfit, and we never figure out where or why he had a Heath Slater costume.)

Anyway, I a little bit love Heath Slater, is all.

I have no idea what they are thinking with any of this. I am getting Summerslam to do a cook out with friends. Yet, I feel like I have already seen it. On Smackdown are they just going to take the belt off of Dean? I mean it would line up. I also don't get why Finn has only wrestled one night on Raw. Build him up with some wins. They started out great with Finn, but now I am concerned.

Nia's victim was Texas indie wrestler Delilah Doom. Pretty distinctive look.

I caught up on my dishwashing at home during that main event, so that was a positive.

The Demon gimmick has always been just Finn cosplaying, so it's not surprising that he showed up as basically the same old Finn just with body paint and a head thing. The Demon has never been meaner, crazier, or with different viscous moves. It's just Finn in body paint and I think Finn is boring without body paint and disappointing with body paint.

And yes saying 'Demon King' 750 seemed like something where we would just get Demon Kane who Seth destroys and then claims he is a Demon slayer only to come face to face with Finn in body paint, and I don't know, be intimidated or something.

I didn't stick around for Rusev-Reigns because I've been trained that it will end with no finish.

I'm going to try my luck and tune into SS at 8 and hope for the best. I'm not falling for that all day blah fest that was Wrestlemania only for the following PPV to be fire.

Good look, and she was good on the mic, too. I wouldn't mind seeing more of her.

I also thought it was bananas to immediately go to Finn's ultimate form in a match that, logically speaking, he should lose. They busted it out pretty early in NXT, but it was still at the culmination of his and Itami's feud with the Ascension. This doesn't feel like a good idea.

I don't know if they realized that promo made Heath Slater the biggest babyface on RAW. I'm pretty sure that we all expected Orton interference to lead to a Heath Slater win there, so I'm not sure why they didn't do that, but they definitely should have done that. It was certainly the most interested I've been in Brock Lesnar in like 2 years.

The New Era of the Brand Extension certainly went off the rails in record time. It seems like every problem this was supposed to fix has just gotten worse.

As someone relatively new to Balor, I didn't realize the makeup version had the name "Demon King" so I, casually watching, also thought Rollins was looking for "Demon Kane" and wondered when they had started feuding again.

Loved the Lesnar/Slater interaction. Heath Slater has gone from a "How is this guy employed?" question for years for me to an entertaining part of the show(s).

One of them is named Remmedy. After the Seether song. I'm not making that up. The other is named Snow. Presumably not after the Canadian rapper.

It's not just new to you, it's new to all of us. Nobody called him "Demon King" until about a week ago when they decided his alter ego needed a name.

It was a good few weeks of Raw being good, right? Because here we are again. Maybe part of my problem is I worked through the first five CWC shows in five days upon rejoining the Network for the 900th time, and then tried to watch this show.

Why spoil the demon before SummerSlam? You want moments. Let it be a SummerSlam moment. Now it's just Finn coming out the same way he did a week before.

Heath has been gold for years, dating back to the JBL & Cole Show (which was a goldmine for superstars showing what they weren't allowed to show on TV, see also Bad News Barrett, Cody Rhodes, and even Daniel Bryan at times). The interactions were gold and hey, Brock breaking it down and being serious for a minute was kind of awesome.

I guess Cesaro has something to do, at least.

Why is Roman fighting Rusev in an actual match a week before their actual match? Throw him in against, oh, anybody else.

Yay, Prime Time Players reunion #8. Can't wait to do this again in half a year.

Bonus thought: watched the first look at "Holy Foley" after the show on the Network. Noelle has the personality of a rock. Not The Rock, but a rock. Also why are you trying to sell me on the wackiness of Mick interacting with Frank the Clown and his wife having a modest doll collection? Ugh. Just don't do this.

This is literally what Cesaro said on RAW Fallout, "any chance for Cesaro to be on RAW is a good thing". But if I were him, I'd push to have a 2-0 headstart.

Agreed with everyone about everything, and they somehow made me less interested in Summerslam.

This show was the nightmare version of all of my worst thoughts when they announced the brand split return earlier this year.

I remember people said there'd be "less 50/50 booking" because they won't be wrestling twice a week on Raw/Smackdown. Nope! You just get 50/50 booking in slow motion over months.

Taking away a lot of the talent and still needing to fill 3 hours creates so many more problems for Raw. Jobber matches are totally welcome. I've even enjoyed them. But, they're still giving away PPV matches on Raw for seemingly no reason to fill up main event time.

Also, while Smackdown has good representation in the uppercard, it's severely underrepresented on the undercard. SummerSlam is almost a Raw PPV with Smackdown main events.

Well, according to WWE booking philosophy, Balor losing with the Demon gimmick will get him more over.

Balor's entrance started off 'slow' because yeah, it needs smoke and mirrors instead of him crawling.
But once he got into the ring, it worked (for me)
Finn's movements were a bit more eratic than usual, more 'weird creature' like than just his normal schtick.
I hope he continues to do that since it will make the demon thing more interesting. It'd be the thing that makes Finn and 'Demon King' different from one another.
Ugh..they said those damn words so often...that was annoying.

Loved how Brock got a pop when he actually spoke. A rare moment. And he was pretty damn entertaining.
Heath btw is ALWAYS good.

I understand the need to take it easy on your ppv-bound guys but was there was hardly any interesting matcheso on the show.

Please never book an Undertaker vs. Finn Balor match. The entrances alone would take 20 to 30 minutes.

With everything you know about the WWE, do you honestly think this will happen? Or is Slater just going to go back to being the 'joke' that he always was.

That's why I don't get the praise for that segment. In a vacuum, yes it was well done. But there's no emotional investment in it because we've been laughing at Slater for the past month. Why care about him now? Why care about him in the future when WWE never follows up on this stuff? I mean, just a few weeks ago, JINDER MAHAL housed him.

Kevin Kelly: "Mr. Austin, would you like to comment on Wade Keller's Take that endorsing the XFL hurts your anti-authority character?"

Steve Austin: "Oh shit, he actually said that? I thought the boys in the back were ribbing me!"

Kelly: "No, he really said that. Did they tell you the part about you sitting in the stands, looking all skeptical?"

Austin: "AHAHAHAHAHAHA. Yeah... oh man that was too much."

I hope that the appearance of the Demon (King) in classic NXT regalia is a sign that at SummerSlam he will be upgraded to an outfit that's not just a bunch of belts strapped on his head.

Finn Balor, arrogant leather-jacket-clad dickhole > Finn Balor, Ras Trent Demon

The Demon jumped the shark at Takeover London, when he came out with a toy chainsaw. The look without all the tassels still works, but, like, say the paint is made of the blood of his enemies or something. Make the tiniest effort to differentiate between regular and Demon Finn.

(edited by SchippeWreck on 16.8.16 1359)

Everything is awesome.
