Two-match show this week as the tournament moved into round two.

Metalik-Tajiri was a lot of fun and it was neat to see how Tajiri has adjusted his style at this late stage in his career. Had heard rumblings that he might stick around on the main roster and I'll be okay with that.

Of course the match that has everyone talking is Ibushi vs. Cedric. I heard great praise for that match from someone who was at the taping and it didn't disappoint. Was fortunate to see Cedric a couple of times at my area indie shows and it's great to see him excel on the big stage.

In a nice touch, they kept in the part after the match where the fans chanted "Please Sign Cedric" as an emotional Alexander left the ringside area...and Triple H personally walked out to shake his hand and give a thumbs-up to the audience.

Second Round, The Sweet Sixteen:

Gran Metalik d. Tajiri

Kota Ibushi d. Cedric Alexander

PROLOGUE: Guys, that first round highlight video package that opened the show was incredible.

ACT I: Metalik and Tajiri do some super-cool professional sequences at the beginning. Tajiri played a much more ground-based game throughout this match than he did in his first round match, where he was more strike-heavy. Metalik fights back with aerial offense. This was pretty great. And it was a real treat to get to see Tajiri on my TV twice in 2016.

INTERMISSION: Phew, can we have a breather before the next match? I think I need a little more time to prepare myself for this. No? We’re going right into it, huh?

ACT II: Ibushi and Alexander put on an AMAZING exhibition of wrestling, striking and aerial magic. That first KICK by Ibushi. The HEIGHT on that springboard clothesline by Cedric. The triangle moonsault from the TOP ROPE. Those near falls at the end after the BRAIN BUSTER and the kick to the FACE. This whole thing was breathtaking. Cedric Alexander was made.

Sorry for the overuse of the CAPS. I didn’t know how else to express my enjoyment.

How do you follow up this episode? You can’t really, but you have to do something, so next week: Gallagher/Tozawa, Dar/Lun and Kendrick/Nese. Wait, what’s this now...

EPILOGUE(!): We come back to Alexander being adulated by the crowd. He gets emotional while the crowd chants “Please sign Cedric!,” prompting Triple H (!) to come out to raise Cedric’s hand and professional wrestling is great.

I think I actually liked Tajiri/Metalik better, which is not to say that Ibushi/Alexander was anything other than a spectacular match. I just really liked the mat-based back-and-forth in the first match, and the fact that there were almost no punches thrown the entire match. It was really neat, and pretty different from the norm.

Ibushi/Alexander, on the other hand, was a phenomenal example of the kind of style that we do get to see more often. That was probably the best brainbuster I've ever seen, and the kickout on the second cover in that spot was great. I knew that the second cover was not going to get a pinfall, but the kickout was so good it got me right at the end.

Can we all agree that Actual Boss HHH is the most fun version of HHH? "Please sign Cedric!" "Yeah, okay, sure." So good. Leaving that in the broadcast might just wind up being my favorite moment from the CWC.

You are going to be hard pressed to find a better hour of WWE programming.

Most surprising is that I didn't think Tajiri still had it in him, or is Gran Metalik that good?

I didn't think they could top the emotions post-Gargano/Ciampa last week, but they did and then some. Just great stuff with the post match stuff with Cedric and HHH, although I wouldn't recommend you watching it around any onion chopping ninjas.
