SmackDown Live could only get better from last week.

That opening segment made the whole show. Dean calling bullshit on Ziggler’s I’ve-been-disrespected story was so dickish, but so meta too I guess. This is it folks. This is Dolph’s last real shot at the real main event. When you’ve been called out the way Dean called him out, and you don’t win, there’s no more upward mobility. It will be really interesting to see how this plays out. And by the way, Dean has (not so) quietly become the top promo in the company the last few weeks. Yeah, I said it.

American Alpha debuted and it was glorious. Hopefully, with them limited to one show working with the near-bottom half of the company’s tag teams, this won’t turn out like the Steiners in 1993 WWF, where they’re so much better than everyone that there’s no serious perception of competition.

Renee’s big ass desk being used as a control center/interview spot was a little off-putting at first. I thought I could get used to it, but then Dean standing up and saying this is weird ruined it for me.

You're right about Ambrose being the best promo. Everything was natural, to the point I question if they're even giving him bullet points anymore. That segment with Renee was perfect. Ziggler also brought the fire. If the New Era means a less hands-on approach when it comes to promos, this might wind up being the greatest era of them all.

The Eva Marie thing is a work, right? If so, it's genius and whoever came up with it deserves all the useless internet praise.

I liked this show a lot.

Dean really shined on commentary, I thought. He even talked over JBL, which makes him best talker by default.

Didn't really care for Cena's typical pandering, but otherwise enjoyed the Cena/AJ segment. I just wish they didn't say "No Club" since they said that at MITB and the Club still interfered.

No complaints about Ziggler this week. While I still don't buy him as world champion, they still made his story interesting and that's all that really matters to me as a fan. The two-hour format really played to the strengths of telling a story like Ziggler putting his title shot on the line being the overall focus and holding my interest.

The Brock/Orton segment was kind of lame. I don't understand why you bring all those security guys out there, bring Shane and Bryan out there, and then just have Brock hit his finisher on Orton and walk out calmly. He should be ripping people's heads off. Lazy writing.

I'm guessing ratings will be down this week, since they're still not doing all they can with Smackdown, but I think it was a better show than Raw this week overall.

Eva Marie was a work and I thought it was TERRIBLE. It's a good heel move to feign injury but Eva Marie sucks at selling. She just bent over and grabbed her leg and that was it. I guess that it happened before the match even started was an attempt to make it more heelish but I thought it just made it more lame. And there were no promo. No Eva Marie talking about her injury or Becky calling her on it. It was just a waste of time and space.

I'm not crazy about the big desk but I did think Carmella gave her most natural promo in her confrontation with Nattie. Unfortunately she still did the poor Enzo imitation on her way to the ring.

Ziggler and Bray have to come up big for Smackdown to compete with Raw so it's good to see them both in the main event picture.

Out of Corbin, Kallisto and Crews, Crews is probably the last one I'd give a IC Title shot to but I'm not convinced that won't end up being a four-way match by the time we get to SummerSlam, which would be a nice little match for the New Era guys.

The only highlight from the Brock-Orton confrontation was that the security escorting Lesnar out allowed Heath Slater to sneak in the back door.

I kinda love the Eva Marie thing. Do this for a while, and when SmackDown gets its womens belt, give it to her for a year. When she finally loses it, whoever wins it will be made. She's the perfect female Honky Tonk. (Yeah, I know Nikki Bella is probably coming to take that belt instead.)

Dean is doing good work!

American Alpha looked good. Hope they get some opponents they can shine against.

Yeah, that triple threat was pretty spiffy. I support giving Crews the exposure, but I wouldn't mind seeing a four-way either.

Dean's been the best promo in the company for a while. He has an uncanny knack for getting me to believe that he's going to win matches that I know he's not going to win, and now that he's actually winning matches, he's even better. That promo against Seth Rollins that set up their title match on RAW last month was about as good as a promo can get.
