My Internet (and, thus, TV) went out 90 minutes in so I haven't seen the whole show ... and wonder if I should ... but since WWE was good enough to not delete LAST year's Memorial Day opener, let me just leave it here along with last night's:
Originally posted by BigDaddyLoco Jesus Christ, AJ is being used as a top guy on equal footing as Cena. Cena probably will win the feud, because the WWE Brand always beats outside stars, but last night's face off and turn was about as well played as you can do it and you know the matches are going to be tremendous and yet people are still complaining about an outcome we aren't even close to yet. There is plenty of other things to complain about.
ha. I really only stopped in this morning to read Cena hate when I saw he had returned (trending on facebook). I was not disappointed.
We'll be back right after order has been restored here in the Omni Center.

I gotta say, I've been avoiding everything wrestling for the past two months or so, even NXT and LU. Seeing Roman become "Da Man", reading about so many wrestlers leaving recently either by being underutilized or ignored in the WWE, it's too depressing to get into. Reading in this forum that Cena returns and the first thing that happen is Styles goes heel and he and The Club beat the shit out of him instantly peaked my interest again.
If only for the matches alone between Styles and Cena, I'm kinda hyped to see what those two will do. The product overall still feels pretty frustrating and depressing, but at least Styles isn't just the flippy floppy indy guy, for now. Plus Rollins is back! Seth frickin' Rollins super workhorse extravaganza!
Cole: "Yeah, thanks to Kane. You should buy Kane a Rolex watch for what he did for you."
Rollins: "Oh don't be silly, Kane doesn't wear watches."
Originally posted by Dr UnlikelySpent that Styles turn imaging what this board would be like, what all boards everywhere would be like, what social media and blogs would be like, what the anticipation for the upcoming brand split would be like if it'd had been Cena turning and helping Anderson & Gallows beat down Styles. Like, imagine John Cena standing there in his goofy Ellen shorts finally doing the one awesome thing we've wanted him to do and just destroying AJ Styles for thinking he could walk in and be a main eventer without John Cena's permission.
Why don't they like fun things?
Couple that with the excruciating Rollins/Reigns segment, where the plan seems to be putting Rollins in the worst possible segments to get people to stop cheering for them...and I guess what I'm feeling is, you can ask me to deal with one of Cena/Reigns as "guy we're pushing at the expense of everyone even as crowds won't embrace them", but both at the same time is asking a lot and bordering on madness.
My wife and I had the same reaction, only to suffer the same disappointment. As for the Cena/Roman thing, the most baffling part of it is that both guys are up against someone that the audience already wants to cheer for. At least with Roman/HHH, the crowd was mostly cheering HHH out of spite. But both the returning Rollins and Styles were getting big cheers, and the company is contorting itself into knots trying to get the "correct" response from the crowd, when they're already getting a response that most wrestling companies would kill for. I just would really like to get an explanation from someone as to why anyone would think that this is a smart or helpful thing for the company to be spending its efforts on.
Because Seth is better as a heel and AJ is new along with not being a WWE guy. I am ok with Seth in the Reigns storyline. He should be bitchy about the title. AJ on the other hand makes little sense. He is a high flyer, he has a loyal fanbase and can be charsmatic in the ring.
However, Cena is Face God. He needs scarifices to keep his Godhood. Much like the Lord of Light, they have to be a certain scarifice instead of Royal blood, it has to be a new fresh fan loving entity. The Bullet Club will keep him from turning heel or down to the midcard speciality that loses a feud. If anything like that would happen, the world would end ie WWE may sell less merch.
All of this is being done including the Brand Split to have the Gods fight at Mania. The Cena/Reigns collision will be so anti-climatic, it may create anti-matter. Thus giving us warp drive and the McMahons can create starships to sell and be paper billionares like their BFF Trump.

Thank you for this! When I saw it on Monday, I thought, "Hey, Cena's shirt is a dead giveaway that the talking heads are recycled." Watching them now simultaneously, the most notable thing is that they slid some of the reused talking heads to the other side of the screen. Also, no fired/released people were in the first one.

Weird that a Bella slipped through to this year's though. Maybe they thought they'd gone to the Alicia Fox well too many times? Maybe Canadian Natalya REALLY didn't want to be in this year's version? Well....like I said, thought pieces.
I've been away on holiday all week (I can heartily recommend Crete to you all!) and wanted to see the Styles and Cena clash so put it on tonight and thoroughly enjoyed seeing AJ beat him up. However watching it with the continual zooming in on punches made it horrible to watch and is really starting to annoy me. Is it me or is it just becoming bad to watch? I just want to see it happen with a still camera so I can see what is happening rather than making it seem that I am completely drunk and can barely see what is happening. I admit I have had a glass of wine and shot of whisky, but even so this was bad.

THIS. As great as it was, the constant zooming and camera moving up and down ruined it. Like I don't even want to watch a clip of it again. It was bad. Who thinks this is watchable?

It used to be watchable when they first did it, I think wih the shield. It added some wildness to the attacks. But this time it was just too much.
The matches are still good, but it's honestly freeing to be able to watch WWE without any of those pesky emotional connections. Nowadays I actively avoid getting invested in people to that extent. "My friend Mark" died when Daniel Bryan retired.

In that case they use the "the ref is giving them some leeway in such an important match" excuse, which came up almost every time during one of those Austin/Undertaker bouts in 1998 where they spent five minutes fighting around the ring and into...
