Yowsers. My tipping sucked arse. Only two I think.

Subjectively, did the show also suck arse or was it OK?

Most of the finishes weren't so great, including the McMahon segment. I did like Ambrose getting that decisive win over Jericho, though.

I liked it when Styles and Reigns were actually allowed to do their thing. The McMahon interference was poorly set up in a match where everyone was expecting the Bullet Club. The whole thing was weighed down by what felt like a last minute rewrite when they had both Bullet Club/Usos and Shane/Steph come out which made for a really overbooked middle of the match.

I appreciate the effort of giving AJ both of the first two falls clean, but it would have helped the story if Bullet Club came out earlier and their interference was somehow the reason for the DQ in the middle of the match. Instead, Anderson/Gallows felt like an afterthought to the McMahons.

Dumb.

Don't even get me started on the Russo Finish in the Women's Title match...

I'm really glad Enzo appears to 'only' have suffered a concussion. That was a really scary moment.

George Michael weighed his options. Maeby had chastised him for not taking risks, and what would be a bigger risk than perpetuating a lie about software just to ignite the passions of a woman? Of course it would be a lie, and since Maeby wouldn't know it was a lie, he wouldn't appear to be taking a risk. Perhaps the bigger risk was to tell his father he was lying, that he came up with it because he wanted his father to leave so he could enjoy what remained of his senior year. After all, he wondered, wouldn't that be the course of action taken by an overtly sexual man, a man who owns a pair of matador pants? He had not responded now for 41 seconds according to his unfailing internal clock, and it was time to come clean.

Main Event was great. Owens-Zayn was right up there. Miz-Cesaro was a lot of fun and Ryback vs Kalisto was the most exciting match I've seen on a Preshow. That's four quality matches making this a pretty big win and if the show had NXT or anything else on the marquee people would be losing their shit.

My new theory is Reigns could get his crowd reaction to at least 50/50 if he didn't wrestle with a shirt.

When Daniel Bryan had what might have been a ringside seizure in his last match, Sheamus tried to scoop him up before the ref could get him away. On a March RAW, Jericho tore into Charles Robinson who couldn't tell Neville was hurt. Last night, one of the Vaudevillians also tried to scoop up Enzo.

There has to be better communication when there's even a possibility of an injury.

Here's to a speedy recovery and in-ring return for Enzo.

Fight forever, Sami and KO.

KO doing commentary sucks because it means I can't mute which means I have to listen to the others.

One might be tempted to think that the McMahons went longer than expected to make up for lost time due to Enzo's injury, but we all know they would've gone as long as they did even if the tag match wasn't cut short.

Shane and Steph control RAW, not Payback. They had no business restarting the title match. ;-)

Right after Roman's school-boy powerbomb (before the countout), the match noticeably transitioned into a typical closing sequence. It was like they cut out about 5-10 minutes of Roman getting heat on AJ. My first reaction was that the Network skipped.

The visual of Roman countering the Phenomenal Phorearm with the Superman Punch was amazing. Equally amazing was the Phorearm that broke the announcer's table.

Yeah, I thought I'd go ahead flush this out since it's been brought up. The basics are above in the original results posting but here are more details if you desire to read.

Roman Reigns vs. A.J. Styles, WWE World Heavyweight Championship (It eventually ended with a spear & Roman retaining but yes, AJ won the match twice[As listed above in the results]. Once via count out & then referee's discretion of inadvertent low blow by Roman to AJ.)

Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens (Pop-Up Power bomb, this match really got the crowd back into it after the wind got sucked out room by the unfortunate Enzo injury.)

Dean Ambrose vs. Chris Jericho (Jericho kept fighting all the way to the eventual finish with Ambrose dragging him up, kneeing him, then delivering Dirty Deeds for a clean & decisive win.)

The Miz/Cesaro, WWE Intercontinental Championship (Off the distraction of Sami & Kevin brawling on the apron of the ring roll-up & hand full of tights for the Miz. If you check facebook for the exclusive social media interview he plays it off as if he won clean as whistle & not in "controversial" fashion.)

Dolph Ziggler/Baron Corbin (Roll-up finish)

So, what was the bit at the end of the Jericho/Ambrose match?

* Jericho tries the lionsault
* Dean kinda gets his knees up
* both lay there with everyone confused if it was blocked or not (and the announcers are similarly confused)
* Jericho does some of the most obvious talking during a match ever
* Ambrose very very slowly pulls Jericho up in a front facelock to set up Dirty Deeds

That was so weird. I thought Jericho got hurt at first. Maybe Dean forgot a spot?

It sucks about Enzo and it really was a huge bummer early on, but considering the initial thoughts about what could have gone down, it's great that he's up and around.

All around, it's a bad thing for sure, but at the very least, Enzo has other skills and could at least be Cass' manager until he's ready to return to the ring, if he's able to.

I thought he got pissed at the ending and the referee. Thought maybe they had to go home early due to his bleeding, but I honestly wasn't paying too much attention.

Fire/demote/publicly yell at and humiliate in weird fashion on live television whichever people are in charge of booking finishes now. The Miz/Cesaro finish would have been a garbage Raw finish, and Reigns/Styles felt like a go-home show finish, not a PPV finish (though AJ putting Reigns through a table and not being able to get him back in the ring before the 10 count would have been a fine go-home show finish.)

Gallows and Anderson basically not playing into any of the three finishes to Reigns/Styles was really weird, and the lack of any reveal to that angle makes it seem like the latest in a series of "they figured it out so we'll triple super secret fool them!" booking decisions. That felt like such an anti-climax that they almost have to do something big tonight with whatever Not Bullet Club is going to be or risk the whole thing being DOA.*

Which is a shame, because tucked amidst the goofy non-finishes and the dull Spear finish, Reigns and Styles kinda had great chemistry. Styles countering the Superman Punch with a Pele Kick was great and a wonderful set up for Reigns countering the Phenomenal Phorearm with a Superman Punch towards the end. The Forearm from the ring down to the floor that put Reigns through the table was amazing. AJ popping up from behind the entrance ramp barrier to ambush Roman was a cool spot I don't remember seeing before.

Amidst all the things they're doing/have done wrong with Reigns, it's only fair to note that Roman has proven that, while he mostly sleepwalks the small matches and bombs in the Rumble, he can hang with the superworkers in big time matches (and it's therefore equally fair to note that many of us have noted that the time to let him learn and do this was TWO YEARS AGO, not after becoming a three-time champion and pariah). This is a good thing, but only if they're actually going somewhere with him and not just setting up Styles/Gallows/Anderson as people for him to bulldoze through Summerslam.

That said, Roman looked like a total dork with that yellow-highlight vest. Maybe not as bad as the Lazer Tag vests they had him in a year ago, but still, the weird, Classic Wolverine-ass vest needs to go ASAP. Either dump the vest all together if we're not getting a 'Bulletproof' stable or let him go back to the combat-looking vest, which at least looked cool, not this goofy He-Man/Thundercats iron-on puffy decal thing.

I thought it was very similar Seth Rollins' ring gear. I wonder if this was intentional or not.

The announcers deciding "The Guy!" was a workable nickname for Roman Reigns was the best moment of comedy on the show.

Hmm, interesting. Seth has the White With Gold Captain Eo suit for PPVs, Roman has the Movie Wolverine Black With Gold vest. If Ambrose gets a pair of blue jeans with gold tuxedo piping, we may be on to something.

I don't have time to do it now, but a History Of Roman Reigns Nicknames would be interesting. "The Big Dog!" "The Powerhouse!" "Fans Are Calling Him The Juggernaut!" "Eh, just...the guy."

Less funny but really strange and remarkable was the "Camp WWE" shill they had Cole and Saxton (I think JBL was notably silent, just doing his dead-eyed smile) towards the end of the PPV, where they made a very concerted effort to note that, while Camp WWE was TV-MA and not for the children in any way, shape or form (to the point of promoting parental lockout options), we should all be confident in knowing that Raw and all the PPVs were going to stay PG forever and ever and ever. This...is certainly a choice to make.

(Also, trying to possibly goad Shapiro into doing a Camp WWE review.)

Also interesting that this occurred on the same show where Vince McMahon openly expressed his desire for his offspring to "slit each others' throats" and "disembowel each other." Figurative or otherwise, that's a strangely poor choice of words. Is someone watching a little too much Game of Thrones?

Au contraire! I was genuinely impressed that JBL successfully communicated "Camp WWE's" bawdy irreverance without once resorting to notes or reading from an invisible teleprompter.

Sami Zayn did a half nelson/chickenwing suplex - a move I'm not sure I've ever see in All My Many Years of watching WWF/E (because maybe I don't watch enough NXT, yes, possibly) - and it was a mere TRANSITION move to set up an instantaneous followup Kevin Owens bomber lariat. Amazing.

The fact that they didn't immediately name the Vaudevillains #1 contenders made me wonder if somehow they WEREN'T the booked winners going in. What was the betting like ahead of the match?

One hopes that this wasn't a Daniel Bryan level concussion. I stuck around long enough to rewatch the match on the live streamed replay and almost wondered if he was knocked silly a little earlier and that's what led to the last move. Also, I don't think we REALLY needed the super slo-mo replay there. ALSO also, weirdly dissonant hearing our commentary team go from super serious voice to an almost immediate gleeful laugh from JBL about how Owens was stomping on Zayn. I guess we were fortunate that we didn't have Lawler live to use his Krispy Kreme line for the thousandth time.

By the way, we got a really good look at how refs communicate back to gorilla last night; apparently the push-to-talk button is hidden at the belt line behind the small of the back - pretty inconvenient, but I guess they don't expect to ever have to use it much when you're out there.

What the fuck was up with that Women's title match finish? The Montreal finish is old enough to VOTE.

Wasn't the main event finish ALSO recycled from a million years ago? Didn't Commissioner Foley have to restart a Chris Benoit title shot a second and third time on a PPV, or am I too old to properly recall stuff from that far back? (half hour passes) OK, I'm misremembering Fully Loaded 2000. I'm sure I've seen this before, though, because it was so predictable and went just as expected. (That said...it was well done, if inexplicably stupid. The "Hello, David McLane" backstage McMahonfest coda at the end didn't help. Pretty sure whoever didn't cue the replay Vince was expecting has already been fired.)

Vince also said he wants to see BLOOD which is like Bill Watts saying he wants to see Shane and Steph throw each other over the top rope to show their desire for power.

It was funny to see Ryback do the brushing of the ground, look at his imaginary watch "It's Clobbering Time!!" in Chicago. The Chicago fans tried to do a CM Punk chant at Vince, but he just made fun of them not being able to keep it up again like the last time he was in Chicago. I like that the crowd was chanting "Roman Sucks" to the tune of New Day Rocks.

The rap gimmick is what's in today. It's something that the fans (especially the younger ones) can really identify with and relate to. A lot of kids today wanna' be like John Cena's character.
