There's going to be Prince tributes for weeks. Deservedly so.

My absolute favorite artist of all time. Im stunned.
I was fortunate enough to see him twice and he was the epitome of a performer and entertainer both times.

This hurts worse than Bowie, which stung pretty bad.

His music added just the right amount of eighties kitsch to the 1989 Batman film, and he also performed the halftime show at Super Bowl XLI, the one my Colts won on that rainy day in Miami.

This hit me like when Lemmy Kilmeister died only a few months ago. I feel like the Earth lost part of it's soul. The guy was so talented that the albums he made to get out of his contract with Warner Bros, which were mainly B-sides and stuff he thought was unfinished and lackluster, makes some of his most experimental and weirdly strong songs that hardly anybody knows about.

Oddly enough much like Lemmy dying, I feel less sad and feel like living today harder than I did yesterday. Like in losing Prince I feel like I'm gained a greater passion for today. I want to fuck and paint and get drunk and write stories and make new friends.

Thank you Prince.

Cole: "Yeah, thanks to Kane. You should buy Kane a Rolex watch for what he did for you."
Rollins: "Oh don't be silly, Kane doesn't wear watches."

Like Bowie he was the type of musician who did what he wanted.
Resulting in lots of stuff that you might not want to remember, but also lots of amazing material.

As a kid in the 80's I never quite understood the "who is better, Jackson or Prince" question.
While Michael was a great entertainer, Prince was obviously so much more. A great musician, guitarist, entertainer.
There was no comparison.
Speaking of his guitar play, it always seemed underrated compared to all the other things he did but boy could the man wail. I was reminded of this yesterday when I saw a clip of him at a tribute to George Harrison where he and so many other greats play 'while my guitar gently weeps' and he steals the show with his solo at the end.

An amazing talent that will be missed yet forever made his mark on entertainment.

That's so great that you can have that takeaway.

I've been more opposite, like "Prince did so much with the life and talents he was given, what the hell have I been doing with mine?"
Hopefully the passion part kicks in soon.

Bit of a blindside. So much Prince still in my "at work drowning out the noise of plodders" playlist.

RIP

I actually watched MTV for the first time in several years to watch the Prince tribute and was able to see the 'Purple Rain' movie. It was a dynamic performance that he put on. It says on Wikipedia that he made a couple of other movies in the 80's but it makes me wonder why he didn't pursue acting a little more.

I always wondered why he chose to make "Under the Cherry Moon" black and white. Because he's Prince, I guess.
