Just thought you all should know. I went to the concert last night in Raleigh. Brian Setzer opened and that was fun, and then we got Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers for a couple hours! Woo! We got two new songs.... I can only remember one of the was called "The Sun is Coming" I believe. And two covers, one of Mr. Breeze, and the other of Gloria. All great fun. Tom Petty rocks!

Nope, he's one of my favorite artists.
Does anyone else have Johnny Cash's Unchained, where the Breakers are the backing band? Awesome album.

Well I went to see Petty during my senior year of HS in spring 95. The show rocked hard, but the funny part was in the years to come, as during college I met what had to be dozens of different people who all mentioned that they were at the show as well. We've pretty much extrapolated out that 84,000 people went to that show, which is odd since United Center only holds about 20,000. I've seen him twice and would have seen him this summer but his tour inexplicably didn't stop in Chicago.
You never know when you'll meet that special someone... the someone that's mysteriously blind to your flaws. or, you know, stupid enough not to realize that yes, you really are that cynical.

As Kaz said, no need to feel alone as many of us teenagers/young adults think that Tom Petty does indeed, ROCK. My favorite song is one of his newer, "Room at the Top"
I don't know how much of a Petty fan I'd be anymore if it weren't for the concert I went to in 9/99, or if I hadn't heard Unchained. I'd have to mostly agree with the sentiments about that album, as it sounded a little more together than the previous American Recording had (likely thanks to the HBs), even if I thought # 1 was better song-for-song. The concert I attended was fun, as I couldn't really remember any of his songs aside from Wildflowers stuff, but I found myself singing everything like I'd just listened to them all. And his version of 'Gloria' smokes the livin' fark out of Van Morrison. That was worth the price of admission, even if the opening act was a damned gospel troupe.
He's coming here to ABQ next month, and I'm damn sure going.
