In UFC 193 Holly Holm had a pretty easy time of it, if you ask me. Rousey might not be all that after all.

I saw she went to the hospital afterward. She really lost a lot this weekend. The fight - she was really nasty pre-fight to Holm and she didn't do post fight interviews.

star fallen?

Please, the rematch is total money. There is nothing people like more than the redemption story. She needs a better coach even her mom thinks so. You can't out box, a boxer. Maybe, this time she can actually get enough prep time as opposed to this match. I had a weird feeling this might happen.

Holmes is a great boxer and has a small reach advantage on her. Rhonda didn't seem as motivated as the last few times since Holly did the smart thing and kept her mouth shut. The question will be if Dana is stupid enough to give Holly another title defense prior to Rhonda and she shits the bed. I doubt she will, but stranger things have happened. Unfortunately, Cyborg will want a shot along with the hundred of horse shots in her body.

"she went to the hospital afterward.......she didn't do post fight interviews"

I'm not sure if you meant Rosey's failure to do interviews as a knock on her, or if you were just listing things that begat her stock, but the former begat the latter.

There's a lot going on with this fight IMO.

1. Rousey has been a big fish in a shallow pond. This hasn't been Jon Jones clearing out the 205 division. It's been an (admittedly talented) fighter clearing out a weak division in its infancy. She's good, but overrated.

2. Holly Holm is a very good striker and has been training a range of striking disciplines for the better part of two decades.

3. Rousey was over confident.

4. Rousey's coaches gave her a terrible gameplan. They were telling her she was doin great after R1 even though she was rushing in and getting lit up. Just awful advice.

5. There's a fine line between being in the zone and being out of control. Ronda's MO has always been to get into "kill & destroy" mode from weigh-ins to final bell. That can backfire against a smart opponent who counter-strikes well.

All that said, I'm delighted that she lost. Not sure what she's like away from the cameras, but she comes across as an a-hole a lot of the time. Hopefully this knocks her down a peg or ten.

There has been so much media coverage and people fawning over her that you could almost see this coming. At some point you buy into your own hype. The fact that she was brutally beaten was what surprised me.

Two thoughts:

ONE; this is Tyson v Douglas level shocking. Not because Holm was a nobody, but nobody really expected Rousey to lose and to be just beat up like she was.

TWO; This is the first act of Rocky III. Holm beats everybody she has in front of her and finally gets to the champ, who (just about)everybody loves, and is over confident.

The rematch is a license to print money.

This whole camp has been a comedy of errors for Ronda. Between her mother blasting her head coach publicly on at least three separate occasions, her head coach filing for bankruptcy like a week before the fight, the whole thing with her an Travis Browne and the pull apart thing at the weigh-ins (which she looked terrible at, by the way), I kinda thought that this might be the night that she finally lost, but I wouldn't in a million years have guessed that she'd get knocked out, much less in such a brutal fashion.

Just an ugly night all around for Rousey. Acted like a punk and then got destroyed. She looked entirely overmatched.

There's money in the rematch of course, but what happens if she loses that too?

Then she either A) Retires and goes into acting and/or WWE full time or she
B) Pulls a Meisha Tate and cries for half a decade about deserving another shot.

Man. Ronda is super talented but I love it so much when crazy shit happens. And it doesn't get much crazier. Even when Holm landed the headkick that put Rousey out, there was still part of me that figured Rousey would pull it out. But no. I screamed at the TV. My wife screamed at the TV. The cat was confused and nervous. This was #1 and the best and I almost didn't buy this PPV and I am so so glad I did. Amazing.

This does a much better job of summing up my feelings on the show than I probably could've done.

Even when Ronda was getting lit up part of me still thought she'd eventually find a way to clinch and get it to the ground.

We don't pay for PPVs in the UK, but if we did, they could have my money for a rematch as soon as they let me give them it. Ronda's skill-set doesn't let her shoot from distance, and staying at distance is playing into Holm's hands which is no doubt why Ronda rushed her so much. Not sure how you solve that riddle, but that's what the true greats do.

Most fascinating rematch since Weidman v Silva.

Big question is if they do a Rousey/Tate match first. Kind of makes sense because:
a) it settles that feud
b) Rousey can have a warm up & get her confidence back & reestablish herself as a threat
c) If Rousey loses, there's still a good story for Tate/Holm, which will still sell
d) Doing Rousey/Tate first, winner fights Holm (and maybe an easy Holm match too) makes more money overall than Rousey/Holm, winner fights Tate (or whoever), which blows off a red-hot angle in one match.

Feud is settled, Tate isn't as good as Rousey is. Its a fact. Tate just keeps running her bitch mouth to keep herself relevant. Cyborg/Rousey is probably the fight to see who faces Holmes. Holmes will have a defense or two. She really can't lose those matches or she will be Buster Douglas.

I don't want to be harsh, but if you're booking anything but the rematch here, you're throwing away money. It's such an easy thing to sell and everything else - Tate, Cyborg, 'reestablishing credibility' - is irrelevant. If a gigantic MMA fight is dropped in your lap, and Holm/Rousey 2 is exactly that, you do it ASAP before someone screws it up.

(That's the essential difference between MMA and boxing - people will lose when you don't want in MMA.)

Seriously. Just book the rematch. No point letting injury or an upset scupper a huge money fight.

Also, #Holmes.

Let Cyborg and Tate fight it out and the winner gets the winner of the rematch.

BTW, Taz is calling shenanigans. From his CBS Radio show/podcast

“Why are some people not seeing this? This has been done in the wrestling industry for years. A guy or girl is going to take a break or go away, or has an injury that they have to tend to, whatever the reasons are, and they’re a champion – you take the championship off of them. You do not want your champion sitting home or making a movie, ‘Roadhouse 2′ or whatever Rousey’s going to do, or whatever Rousey’s going to do, or just needs a personal break, which she’s earned. This girl’s earned it. But you don’t want that person sitting home for five, six, seven months with that championship. It’s bad for business! Take the belt off her!

And many other people on the card got punched in the face, and kicked in the chest, and stomped on the head. And the bulk of all those fights you’re watching are legit, finish and everything, no doubt. But the bigger bouts, just like in boxing, the finish is predetermined. Now, here’s the other little catch for you: not each of the fighters is in on the work! Unlike pro wrestling, it’s a shoot. Not each fighter is in on the work. I’m tellin’ ya.

If you look at the actual K.O. – now, she did get nailed, Rousey, with several shots before the finish of the fight. Nothing that was like ‘oh my god,’ but she got popped a few times. But if you look at the actual knockout, as Rousey, she went for kind of a lazy punch or something – not lazy but she kind of missed – and as she spun to turn around her back was kind of turned to Holm. And as she slowly turned, a high round kick, I believe it was the left foot, or left leg of Holm, catches Rousey, drops Rousey, and then Holm grounds and pounds for three shots – boom, boom, boom. Ref gets in the middle, fight’s over, new champion Holly Holm. I’m telling you right now, that whole series, was the work. And I’m not sure who was in on it and who wasn’t but I know this much: the ref probably wasn’t in on it. Maybe he was I don’t know. Rousey was in on it – and again, this is all my opinion. Holm might not have been in on it.”

This is most interesting in demonstrating how paranoid wrestlers can become when 'working' becomes your default.

You're very diplomatic. I was just going to say "Taz dumb af" and leave it at that.

If you're going to throw a fight, head-kick falling-tree KO with follow-up hammerfists is the way to do it.

Taz is onto something.

I highly doubt 'Roadhouse 2' is gonna take more than 8 weeks to shoot.
