Cubs - Mets

Sad that even though the Cubs have the best record left in Baseball, the Mets get the Homefield Advantage on them. (I think the Cubs would have finished like 3 games ahead of the mets or so). But whatever. Cubs have the rookie sluggers and the Mojo - And Arrieta. Mets have some great players with experience and that flamethrowing freakazoid (Holy CRAP!).

Cubs in 6

Royals - Jays

Royals have the playoff experience and they closed out the Mojo of the 'Stros, but the Jays have some strength all through the lineup, plus they have that darn astroturf.

Jays in 7

The Mets haven't beaten the Cubs all year, so that is worrisome. Duda suddenly looks totally lost at the plate again and the rest of the big bats except for Jekyl and Hyde Murphy have gone pretty quiet. The Cubs have too much hitting. I also think they take it six, but I'm holding out hope that The Mets somehow pull through again.

Jays also have a ton of hitting and just enough pitching. I think they also win in six.

The Mets/Cubs season series was all pre-trade deadline, which may eliminate some of that worry. Duda is a concern, but the pitching is for real. I've got Mets in 6. Looking at Jays in 7 on the other side, but in reality, I'm not sure that I could throw up a whole lot of hatred for any of the possible World Series matchups at this point, even if the Mets flame out.

It's kind of an odd situation, as I think that if you spoke to any of the remaining fanbases in April and told them that, at worst, you were gonna be getting LCS baseball, every one of them would have signed that deal in a second. Everyone, except maybe for KC is playing with house money.

I love this. This is the most excited I have been for an LCS in a long time.

Yankees fan, Mets in 7. I have no ill will toward the Cubs. But that Mets pitching staff is legit. Now is their time and they know it. It has to go 7 because it's the Mets. But I am ok with either outcome.

Yankees fan, Royals in 7. I want the Royals to go more than I want the Jays to go, even though more Jays baseball means more opportunities to see Joey Bats' Bat Flip Bonanza. Again, fine with either outcome.

I want to see the Cubs win the Series in 2015 because it was predicted in Back to the Future 2, but it looks like that's not likely to happen.

My beloved Blue Jays are probably screwed after the stomach punch that was the Game 2 loss. I can't see them winning four of five against a Royals team that simply has too much going for it --- they've become an offensive team that just wears you down.

Arrieta becoming human is an unfortunate development for the Cubs, as is Daniel Murphy suddenly becoming Babe Ruth. How Chicago has to rely on the Hammel/Hendricks connection to keep them alive.

George Michael weighed his options. Maeby had chastised him for not taking risks, and what would be a bigger risk than perpetuating a lie about software just to ignite the passions of a woman? Of course it would be a lie, and since Maeby wouldn't know it was a lie, he wouldn't appear to be taking a risk. Perhaps the bigger risk was to tell his father he was lying, that he came up with it because he wanted his father to leave so he could enjoy what remained of his senior year. After all, he wondered, wouldn't that be the course of action taken by an overtly sexual man, a man who owns a pair of matador pants? He had not responded now for 41 seconds according to his unfailing internal clock, and it was time to come clean.

If the Jays go down in five today, at least they had some fun throwing backup SS Cliff Pennington in as a relief pitcher.

I thought it odd how entertained the Jays' dugout was by Pennington pitching while getting their asses handed to them by the Royals.

Small victories is all they have at this point.

Good luck winning 5 more games this year!

At that point of the game, what else was there? Might as well enjoy the spectacle.

The Jays seem to ride emotional highs and lows. The key for the Royals today is to not allow any momentum to build for the Jays.

I can only imagine that all the young players on the Cubs left it all on the table in beating the Pirates and Cards, along with running into a player or two on absolute fire in the Murphy mania of the Mets.

Great season for the Cubs. They were 73-89 last year and 66–96 in 2013 and way up to 97–65 this year - a 31 game turn around in 2 years. With so many young players - the future is bright for them.

I hate to say it, but I will root for the Mets in the Series since I always root for the National League team (unless it is the Cardinals). Go Mets (It hurts to say that)

The Mets staff is awesome. And it will be even better next season when Wheeler is back.

As a Mets fan, I am enjoying this ride. Never did I expect them to make it this far, especially pre trade when they were just plain awful.

The worst part of this all is watching Murphy price himself off the Mets. No way they over pay for him. He will get a stupid contract from some other team and leave. And good for him. Get the money when you can.

And unless he just loves NY and will sign for a discount, Cespedes is gone too.

Hopefully some free agents see this staff and sign here in the off season. No reason the Mets can not be a contender for a while with these kids - barring injury or agent interference (Mr. Boras).

See, my fear is that they WILL overpay for him. Assuming that this sudden power surge will run out (and how can it not), he's a .280 hitter who doesn't hit home runs, rarely walks, doesn't have much speed, isn't great on defense (and has to play on the Mets at a position that's not his best), and is over 30. Not someone I want to make a long-term committment to.

That said, I couldn't be happier that the Mets are in the Series, and against my favorite AL team, too. BTW, it's the first time ever that two expansion teams are in the Series; only took 55 years!

The Mets still won't be in spend mode, this pennant run notwithstanding. It may not be revealed for years yet just how badly the Wilpons got screwed over by Bernie Madoff, but it's hard to ignore that the Mets have been under some serious financial limitations for years now. It's not helping that what money they do have, the Mets have spent on dead weight like Cuddyer, Lagares or even Granderson to some extent.

Murphy and Cespedes are absolutely gone this offseason. Fortunately, the Mets have insane pitching and a mostly set lineup (d'Arnaud, Duda, Herrera, Flores, Wright, Conforto, Lagares, Granderson) so they can make one big expenditure to beef up the middle infield or CF.

When you have pitching like that at a cut rate price you can fill in the lineup with guys who are professional hitters. You can't do what they tried/had to do and fill the roster with Triple A players who have no business being on a major league roster. They lost a ton of games 1-0 and 2-0 that were just brutal to watch. Cespedes was obviously huge and got them out of the hole, but so did the return of Wright, d'Anaurd and the call up of Conforto along with the Johnson/Uribe addition.

I still think solidifying the middle infield with quality gloves is going to be as important as anything. The sloppy fielding has yet to really rear it's ugly head in the post season and it seems like the logical next step behind young stud pitching.

Cuddyer was a terrible signing. Granderson has been great this year and Lagares had a down year. but still has a ton of talent and some value if they want to move him. Seeing Murphy and Cedpedes come back would be cool, but not if it means we lose flexibility down the road. Whatever Murphy signs for next year will be too much.

That all said I am really enjoying this team right now. I'll enjoy them even more if they can take down the Royals, but that is looking like a tall order.
