This was probably the best top-to-bottom show they've done since last year's (R)Evolution. The worst match on the show was easily Joe/Corbin, which shouldn't have been a surprise to anyone, but even that wasn't awful or anything, just kind of bland. I didn't do notes for a full review or anything, but really quickly:

Jushin "Thunder" Liger beat Tyler Breeze, which was the only real surprise of the show. Breeze busted out some new spots, and Liger looked a lot better than I expected. Liger hit the Ligerbomb for the pin.

The Vaudvillains became the new tag champs by beating Blake and Murphy. Their equalizer was, again no surprise, Blue Pants. This was a really good, really fun match. The Vaudvillains have kick-ass new ring gear, which was probably the biggest hint that they were going to win. Blue Pants took Bliss out of the equation, allowing the Vaudvillains to pick up the win with the Whirling Dervish.

Apollo Crews beat Tye Dillinger in what was a slightly more competitive squash than you might have expected. Crews was adorable in his entrance, being completely overwhelmed by the complexity of the set and the size of the crowd (15,500-some-odd people). He saw his set dressing and busted out, "That's me!" It was great. To be fair to him, I don't think that he knew the camera was close enough to see and hear him. Anyhoo, he won with a combination military press/standing moonsault.

Samoa Joe choked out Baron Corbin with the Kokina Clutch. It kind of sucked, but like I said, wasn't offensively bad or anything.

Bayley captured the women's title from Sasha Banks in another classic women's match. Probably not as good as the other high-water matches, but it told a great story really cleanly all the way through the match. Bayley came out wearing the same kind of gold and white ensemble that Shawn Michaels wore when he won his first world title, which alleviated any fear I might have had that she wasn't going to win tonight. The finish was Bayley hitting an absolutely bananas inverted top-rope hurricanrana, and then following it up with a second Belly-to-Bayley suplex. Afterwards, Charlotte and Becky Lynch came out, and the four horsewomen of NXT got to celebrate together, which I though was super nice to see and I'm really glad them let them do that.

Finally, Finn Balor defeated Kevin Owens to send Owens out of NXT. It was a really good ladder match, but it took a little while to really get going. Eventually, they really started beating the shit out of each other, culminating with Balor hitting the Coup de Grace off the ladder. That kept KO down long enough for Balor to climb the ladder and claim his title.

Again, another great show, top three I think for NXT Takeover events. Favorite match was definitely Bayley/Sasha, but I also really, really enjoyed the tag title match.

1) You know what? It's Liger. Anyone have a problem with any of this can stop talking right now, because it's JUSHIN THUNDER LIGER. Who led off Nitro with Pillman, and now leads off Takeover with Breeze.

2) Why they don't sign Leva Bates I don't know. She's got great charisma, she's a great wrestler, and attractive. Fantastic match.

3) Apollo Crews isn't human, we already knew that. But I gotta say, Dillenger owns his gimmick, now complete with the Horawitz back slapping.

4) I LIKED THIS MATCH!! Really liked Baron Corbin, we was able to hold his own, and I wouldn't say Joe was carrying him or anything.

5) Match of the Year. I'm not exaggerating, this was match of the year. Two years worth of storyline for Bayley ends with her winning the belt, and the four ladies standing tall in the ring. The psychology in this match was exquisite, including the NASTY "hand between the steps" kick. And of course, the reverse rana.

6) A great match, but hard to follow the previous one.

Show of the year? It is in my books.

BAYLEY BAYLEY BAYLEY BAYLEY

Loved Liger's continuous mocking of Breeze, especially when he tossed the selfie stick.

Vaudevillains win! Sweet! Team BAMF has really grown on my through their reign, interested to see where they go from here.

Agreed with Crews' reaction, it really made him relateable and easy to cheer for. Nice job on his theme and video too.

Corbin did better than I thought he would. Good job in a longer match.

Loved the main event entrances. Thought Bayley's was amazing, then Sasha went and topped it. Loved how they cut to Owens being unimpressed with the Demon entrance.

BAYLEY BAYLEY BAYLEY BAYLEY

I can't believe Owens and Sasha both have to wrestle tomorrow. Damn.

Summerslam: the challenge has been issued, good luck following this show.

That was a wonderful image and one that won't easily be forgotten, nor will the hug the four shared afterwards. It was wonderfully heartwarming and I hope to God I don't read tomorrow "Backstage heat on Divas for Curtain Call."

That match is as good as women's wrestling will get and it saddens me that these girls are all getting the call to the main roster, where they'll be forced to wrestle 5 minute bathroom break matches for the rest of their careers. Tonight was something special, but also had a dreadful sense of finality.

It was great night of wrestling and Brooklyn was nuts. Click Here (twitter.com)

I liked Dalton Castle-Liger better than Breeze-Liger, but this was still a cool thing to see. Nothing fancy, but nothing fancy was needed here.

I like the Vaudevillians more than Blake and Murphy who remind me of T & A with Trish Stratus carrying them. Good tag match, but I don't see much future for either team.

I'm starting to get worried about Samoa Joe. I get it, he was wrestling Corbin who is green and sucks, but Joe looks to have lost a step or two. The match was an okay big man match, but another let down if you are a Joe fan.

I loved Sasha smashing Bayley's injured hand while reaching for the ropes. I kind of wish they didn't all hug it out in the end, because that match was a nasty fight between two people with some history. I actually thought Sasha was going to retain towards the end which is just great story telling. I don't understand how this company can have a match like this and not replicate it on their other shows.

Balor-Owens was a Slobber Knocker. Balor and his trashed make up and hair at the end made him look like Crazy Steve. I don't know how Owens gets out of bed tomorrow let alone wrestle a match against Cesaro.

Tomorrow is going to seem like a drag compared to tonight.

The video is up on the WWE website, plys NXT is Triple H's E-Fed, so I highly doubt that they're going to be punished.

It is an end of an era sorts, with two years or so of persistent storylines coming to a close. But I hold more optimism than most in this area. I think we'll still see some five minute matches, but we'll also see longer matches. There's no rule saying thee can only be one woman's match on TV, after all.

I've started to not be as annoyed when Stephanie interjects herself in these situations, because she's the company's Chief Brand Officer. If they want female athletes to be a part of their brand (which, due to the popularity of Rhonda, they want), it makes sense to have a corporate woman on display as well.

This show felt massive. First of all Amy Dumas was on the pre-show and aging really well. Also Liger didn't age too badly either. Liger yukking it up for Breeze made Prince Pretty look outclassed but in a way that felt like an arrogant kid challenging a veteran fighter. Breeze didn't look bad in the loss he just bit off more than he could chew. I'm looking forward to his character progression from here. When he makes it to the main roster I really really want to see how a Wrestlemania entrance will top his Takeover entrances.

Does this mean that Ol Blue Pants gets a full contract now? I've never seen anyone in wrestling get over so strongly by just showing up to lose. No video package, not even a real name and the crowd pops for her is massive. I cared more for her and Alexa Bliss more than their boys. I also think Vaudevillians and Blake/Murphy will go as far as The Ascenscion and The Lucha Dragons on the main shows. Unless Vince sees Gotch and English and has a heartwarming nostalgia trip to watching wrestling with his dad at a local carnival get ready for their gimmick to be lost in translation.

Baron Corbin's problem was the fact that he was given shitty squash matches. Yes he's been built in-ring style to work like Roman Reigns but in a lengthy match he ain't bad. Joe v. Corbin was fun. It was two big agile mothafuckas trying to outwrestle each other and devolving into slugging each other in desperation. The keyword being AGILE. I'm all for two heavyweights battling each other as long as they move more like Mike Awesome and less like Big Show. Joe didn't lose a step, but this ain't 2005 either.

Man that video package for Bayley's Hug-demption was masterful. Bayley's friend Charlotte betrays her joins Sasha Banks, Charlotte becomes champion, get's a call up. Bayley's friend Becky betrays her joins Sasha Banks, get's a call up. Bayley's old friend Emma betrays her after returning from getting a call up and injures her. Her greatest nemesis and every woman that used her gets promoted and she has nothing to show for it until last night. Bayley becoming champion over Sasha in a story culmination that took nearly two years is probably the most well thought and underrated angle this company had at least until Sami Zayn comes back and faces Owens again.

Props to Sasha and Bayley both making tributes to Dusty with their attire. Bayley with the Polka Dots and Sasha with the Red White and Blue gear. He was dancing during that match upstairs I'm sure.

While watching Balor v. Owens I thought of something. I find it understandable but odd that people think Owens is gonna get buried soon. Do you know this week he'll have been on 4 different shows two of which he mainevented? He's been working at least 2 to 3 shows a week since he popped up on Raw. If the plans were small for him wouldn't he be making rarer appearances like Heath Slater or Ryder?

Top ladder Diving Double Stomp? We all better enjoy him doing the Coup De Grace before it goes the way of Orton's Punt and Rollins' Curbstomp.

I'm going to go watch this show again. I can't believe I am saying this with a show featuring Lesnar and Undertaker but Summerslam better bring it.

WWE needs to do the organic thing, the thing they should have done in the first place, and get the Four Horsewomen to be a real thing. Tonight is the perfect opportunity, since all parties (sans Bayley) will be in the ring. I'm sure Bayley will be in the building, so it's not hard to make it happen. Paige can be the new Sting. Book it note-for-note like the heyday, and take my money.

What a match. I don't know what I can say about it that hasn't been said already. IMO, match of the year. IMO, best women's match that I have ever seen. IMO, top-five overall match over the last five years. Storytelling, psychology, intensity, crowd, announcers, workrate, pacing; everything was perfect.

Shout out to Graves for continuing to improve. He had one dumb statement when he called Sasha the veteran, moments after he said that Sasha and Bayley came to NXT around the same time. But other than that, he's doing good things. It's clear that he listens to how Heenan and Ventura called matches as heels. And if you're going to emulate a style, those two are a great place to start.

I was going to say that I can't wait for Graves to be called up, but I don't want that to happen. NXT exists in its own world, away from the Eye of Sauron, and has the traction and talent to be its own entity. Unfortunately, people will continue to be called up and will invariably lose part of what made them special in the first place in order to fit into the mold of what Vince thinks a Superstar should be. That sucks.

HHH opening and talking to the camera caught me by suprise.
The crowd couldn't hear that, right? And then the lights go up and he grabs the mic, and the crowd goes wild. Wow.

Liger/Breeze was cool for what it was. A chance to see Jushin Freakin' Thunder Liger in a WWE environment. He obviously had a good time and the match was solid.

Vaudevillains - Team BAMF. Damn how I love heel Alexa.
And obviously it was gonna be Blue Pants, because the Vaudevillains wore blue as well.
For the record, they now sell Blue Pants t-shirts so I assume she is under some sort of deal.
http://shop.wwe.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-wwe-Site/default/Search-Show?q=blue+pants&simplesearch=Go

Joe vs Corbin was a solid big man fight. Corbin proved that he is being short changed by those squashes as he does have some skills after all. The choke-bomb reversed into the clutch was nice too.

Bayley and Sasha. Wow, what a match. From the start where Sasha was super-bitchy-bossy and Bayley just pounced on her to the super crazy finish was one thrill ride.
Kudos for working over the hand, including those stomps while Sasha had the submission on.
And I was worried for a moment when Bayley seemed to land wrong but thankfully she was fine.

Owens-Balor was good, but yeah that women's match was tough to follow. I think if it hadn't been a ladder match they would've been outclassed & outwrestled but the stipulation made sure they held their own.
I don't think I've ever seen anyone take a bump onto a ladder on its side like Owens did.
At first I thought the finish came too fast and too easy.
But the replay showed the height and thus how damned impactful the Coup de Grace looks from a ladder. Wow...

Best chant of the night "Full...Sail sucks!"
Great show. Amazing atmosphere.
The main roster guys are probably praying they get the chance to shine like the NXT guys.
Don't think all of them can (Hi Show!) but guys like Ziggler, New Day, Cesaro and such should be able to gives us similar performances IF given the chance.

That's not being fair. I was as worried as anyone when the women got called up to RAW, but they've been getting two match segments every RAW, and usually around ten minutes a piece to wrestle. While those matches have involved waaaay too much Brie Bella, they've generally been pretty good, and I am looking forward to the three way match (lazy booking aside) at Summerslam. On RAW, their booking has suffered (but whose hasn't?), but their matches are still going pretty strong.

After being bored by Raw after Raw and repetitive pay-per-view after pay-per-view, this show reminded me why I fell in love with wrestling all those years ago and stick with it. This talent, these fans, the announce team (Graves is the best color commentator they have in WWE), everything... it was perfect.

No shock, the womens match was MY main event of this entire weekend. I was too emotionally exhausted to pay too much attention to the ladder match after, and nothing at SummerSlam will top it. These two women are the future. Sasha we all know is going big, but Bayley has it too. Bayley, assuming they don't do something as horrible as turning Hacksaw Jim Duggan into Team Canada, could easily be #2 in both merch sales and Make-A-Wish behind John Cena. In fact, she has the gimmick an the talent to followup Cena as the wrestler the younger audience loves.

Phenomenal match. The entrances were perfect. Sasha has charisma off the charts, and I will never not love Bayley getting the wacky waving arm men. They are perfect foils, and you can tell they love each other. The reverse top rope frankensteiner was scary but awesome. Sasha diving over the referee was awesome. The fans were amazing, and show the fans CAN get behind two women tearing it up if the executives would let them truly do it on the main show. And the horsewomen was great. Again, you can tell these ladies all really love each other. I feel like the NXT locker room is probably the most close-knit locker room there is, and I love them all for it.

The ladder match was good too, but again emotional exhaustion set in. Can we move Tyler or Joe up to battle Finn now?

Tyler-Liger was fun. Liger looked like he was having fun, and Tyler had to be eating it up.

BLUE PANTS! See, another woman that NXT has entirely let get over. Fun tag match and good result.

Couldn't get into the Joe match, mainly because I haven't gotten into Joe yet. I haven't seen his non-NXT stuff, despite the legend, and NXT hasn't let him show much.

Apollo looked good and again, you could see the true emotion as he came down the aisle. Wrestling could do much more of letting us see the actual emotion of the talent like NXT does.

This is my favorite show of the year so far (until the next NXT special, probably). A different, larger crowd helped and they worked it like a charm. The set looked great and the black & white was badass.

I'm scared yet excited about how much of these same fans are going to react to SummerSlam tonight, which in no way can live up to this show.

The Bayley/Sasha match was terrific start to finish, and the last 5 minutes were an emotional rollercoaster unlike anything I've ever felt before. Like, I'm watching this thing while invested on several levels - desperately hoping that Bayley wins, and the match gets way over, and if they try a wacky finish, they stick the landing. #2 was never in doubt. #1, there was so much broken hand psychology, and Bayley sold it so well, that I actually started to believe Sasha had a chance. And when Bayley took that awful fall off the turnbuckle on the blocked/botched rana off the top when the commentators were practically saying "here's the finish," I was concerned, hopeful, riveted. High drama. And then they held it together for a reverse Frankensteiner off the top! Holy shit! Has that even been done in a WWE match before? It was the kind of happy ending you only get in wrestling. They earned that curtain call.

Anyway. To further belabor the obvious, this was an overwhelmingly male, overwhelmingly "smart" crowd of over 13,000 people in WWE's bellwether city, and they went insane for that match. I don't expect WWE to stop kneecapping the Divas Revolution™ with the cool-dad seal of approval anytime soon, since they probably worry that bored dilettantes will change the channel at the sight of women and also that's Stephanie McMahon's best hope of drawing babyface pops anytime this century, but hey! Here's the biggest data point yet that says good women's wrestling speaks for itself.

The main event was terrific even if there was no way it could follow the two-years-aborning catharsis of Bayley winning the title in the WWE match of the year. So many cool spots. Owens' anticlimactic punch with Finn trapped in the ladder. Finn's backdrop into the ladder. Pop-up powerbomb off the ladder. Coup de grace off the ladder. Farewell, KO, you sullen vindictive INTJ careerist buzzkill fighting machine. You are the worst person ever and NXT will miss you terribly.

Incredible show, great crowd. Here's to a new class of talent stepping up and surpassing everyone who got sent off to the main roster last night.

I liked that they went over their two hour window on the network, I felt that the matches all benefited from the extra time. Having all faces win every match is a bit disappointing, but there wasn't really much room to go any other direction.

Now they need to build up new challengers for Balor and Bayley, as there isn't anybody ready to take that spot. Maybe Samoa Joe could fight Balor, but there is nobody to challenge Bayley at that level yet. Emma might be the closest, but they'd need to rebuild her.

Kayfabe! They were always going to use that extra half hour, despite what was on the schedule. Gave them a chance to bury PPV/plug the network on the network.

This struck me, too - I'm not a Graves fan but I decided this statement could be explained by saying Sasha had more non-NXT years than Bayley did.

I DID like Rich Brennan's accidental "using that weapon as a ladder" and the team deciding to acknowledge and correct-but-maybe-also-not-correct it.

I'm not as excited about the Four Horsewomen posing because I'm not a silos guy - Charlotte and Becky shouldn't be buddying up with Sasha if they're on different WWE factions. This was kinda Kliq-at-MSG for me. (Ironically, Kliq-at-MSG wasn't a big deal for me at the time, so maybe I'm just sexist or something.) Weird that Paige wasn't there - or was it? I guess she does have a year in WWE on all of them.

George Michael weighed his options. Maeby had chastised him for not taking risks, and what would be a bigger risk than perpetuating a lie about software just to ignite the passions of a woman? Of course it would be a lie, and since Maeby wouldn't know it was a lie, he wouldn't appear to be taking a risk. Perhaps the bigger risk was to tell his father he was lying, that he came up with it because he wanted his father to leave so he could enjoy what remained of his senior year. After all, he wondered, wouldn't that be the course of action taken by an overtly sexual man, a man who owns a pair of matador pants? He had not responded now for 41 seconds according to his unfailing internal clock, and it was time to come clean.

I think, with HHH running the show, it was 100% the intent to for this to be a reference to that moment. (Probably a reason why we got the shot of Nash, Hall and X-Pac earlier.)

I think it should completely play into things going forward, but it would require an actual status quo change (which WWE doesn't seem to want to do at this moment), and even more factions (which I don't want!)

Also maybe Sasha would be a face and that shouldn't happen. Sasha should be winning the main title tomorrow and everything should be built around her the day after that.

Yet again I'm in the minority around here. I thought Corbin vs Joe was better than the ladder match, though nowhere as good as the Women's Championship match.

I'm a bit disappointed by Blake & Murphy losing the titles but I don't begrudge the Vaudvillains their time in the spotlight, they've definitely earned it. Buddy Murphy & Simon Gotch are two of the most underrated workers on the roster IMO.

I can't wait for the inevitable Blue Pants heel turn when she walks out wearing a different color.

The Apollo Crews match was fine at the time but not 5 minutes later I honestly forgot what the previous match was and almost had to rewind it to remember. Also, the crowd was in full douche mode with the Uhaa chant.

I almost turned off the show after Liger won, but Tyler Breeze being buried is an NXT tradition at this point. I'd love to see him in Lucha Underground. (Random note, John Morrison (and Taz) were name dropped by Joey Styles on the latest UpUpDownDown, Xavier Woods (aka Austin Creed)'s YouTube gaming channel.)

I still wish the women's match had gone on last but I understand the pacing necessitated that the garbage match end the show.

On Talk is Jericho, Sasha talked about her and Charlotte being allowed to main event a house show in Philadelphia. They went out and won over the biggest asshole fans in the entire country, if not the world. The only argument that can possibly be made against the divas wrestling at this point is Vince McMahon saying "Fuck you, I do what I want."

That only works if you ignore the fact that Bayley made her professional debut two years before Sasha and is three years older.
