All right guys, this is the go-home show for next week's Unstoppable event, and we have been promised a confrontation between Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens. Presumably, they will also tell us if there is going to be a match at Unstoppable. We'll probably be finalizing the rest of the card tonight as well.

Our first match is Solomon Crowe against Baron Corbin. The crowd has really soured on Corbin. I wonder why? He does a little more than usual in this match, all heel stuff (he's a heel now, for reasons), and it's made quite a bit better by Crowe's selling. Crowe hasn't done much yet, but he sells pretty well, so maybe he's the new CJ Parker. I'll find him yet. Crowe gets a brief offensive rally, which includes an enziguri that is so bad, offensive really is the word to describe it. End of Days comes out of nowhere to finally shut this one down.
Match Rating: 6/10 On The Baron Corbinometer
Afterwards, Rhyno comes out. He made a challenge last week, and he wants to know if there's going to be a match or what. There is! Fists are thrown, the officials break it up, and Rhyno winds up goring a couple guys while Corbin is forced up the ramp. We all know what we're getting into with this one.

We get a pair of quick spots featuring Finn Balor and Tyler Breeze. They're essentially identical - a faceless interviewer asks who they'd want to fight for the title if they win the number one contender's match. Both answer "what do you mean 'if?'" and "it doesn't matter." Not super imaginative, guys.

Sasha Banks has got a squash against Some Jobber. She's got words for Becky Lynch first, but it's nothing we haven't heard before. Some Jobber keeps trying for quick roll-ups here (without actually checking, I'm pretty sure this is the same jobber who wrestled Lynch a few weeks ago), and then pulls off a pretty nice crossbody block. Banks don't care. She does her corner knee drop and hits the Bank Statement to pick up the win.
Match Rating: I Am Starting To Get Interested In This Jobber. I Like When That Happens.

Backstage, Bayley and Charlotte have an open challenge for Dana Brooke (Uggh.) and Emma (yay!). I'm a little sad, because I was hoping for Bayley/Emma one-on-one, but someone must have realized that they were leaving Charlotte off the show.

We get that promo spot for the still-unnamed Uhaa Nation again. It's too weird. Name him!

Another women's match is next. Carmella is taking on Alexa Bliss after that surprisingly convoluted segment two weeks ago. Carmella decides to go real big on her entrance, and I'm not sure that it was a good decision. I'm not sure who the heel is in this match. Three weeks ago, it would have been an easy call, but nobody behaves in an especially heelish manner tonight. Anyhoo, the match itself isn't bad. Carmella's really improved, although I wouldn't say she's great exactly. Bliss does some cool roll-ups of her own, and Carmella does a Leg-Nelson(?) move that is super cool-looking. Bliss also goes for some kind of flippy arm drag thing that gets botched by one or both of them. That was less cool-looking. At some point in all of this, Blake and Murphy come out, and when Carmella goes for her submission move, they jump up on the apron. It's not much of a distraction, but it's enough for Bliss to get back into the match, set up, and hit her top-rope flip splash (which is now called the Sparkle Splash, a minor improvement over the Bliss Flip).
Match Rating: Yeah, Alright.
After, Blake and Murphy get in the ring to run down Enzo and Cass in front of Carmella. She defends her boys, and says they're taking home the belts next week. I'm not sure I endorse having Carmella get in the last digs for this feud instead of, you know, Enzo, the guy what is good at taking. Anyhoo, I'm hoping this is all an elaborate misdirection, because Carmella needs to turn on Enzo and Cass at some point, and next week is as good a time as any.

Itami also gets a sitdown spot. I thought they weren't going to, since he's evidently pretty injured, but we get no hint tonight that anything's wrong with him. Instead, he's the only one of the three who says anything of interest in his bit. He says that if he wins, he want KO, because he's a bad person (or alternatively, a "butt person," if you're kind of mean about Itami's accent. Both work, though), and he doesn't respect the NXT title, which is like the only thing that I think KO actually does respect, but whatever, it's still a more interesting response.

Backstage, Dana (why?) and Emma (of course!) accept the challenge. We're getting two women's matches at Unstoppable.

Our main event match is Itami and Balor against Breeze and, of all people, Adam Rose. I'm not actually complaining; he's a great wrestler, and he's only allowed to wrestle when he sporadically shows up down in NXT. It's just unexpected. Balor's entrance has been tweaked to make it more intimidating, which while not necessary in any way, is still cool. Anyhoo, the story of this match writes itself. Itami and Balor are going to be fighting each other soon, and it kind of starts here. They do a good enough job to start, but eventually Balor tries to take on two guys at once, and he doesn't do so good at it. While the heels are on offense, Rose does this cool transition from a spinebuster into a Boston Crab. See, I told you he was a good wrestler. A pele kick gets Balor back into it, and he tags Itami back in, who hits most of his signature spots until Balor tags himself back in. They start getting too competitive with each other, blind tagging when they should be cooperating, and it costs them when Breeze scores a roll-up pin on Itami after too much mis-coordination.
Match Rating: Good To Have You Back And Wrestling, Adam Rose, Even For Just One Night.
After, Itami and Balor get in each other's faces, but Breeze has a SuperModel Kick for Itami and a Beauty Shot for Balor. Rose congratulates him, but eats a SuperModel Kick of his own for it. Poor sportsmanship Breeze! How could you? He attempts to take a selfie in front of the carnage, but he can't hear me yelling through the tv that he needs to turn his phone to landscape to pull it off. He settles for a selfie of just his own gorgeous face. He always does.

We get a previously recorded interview with Sami Zayn. It's from immediately after the Raw where he hurt his shoulder. He talks a little about it, but at that point, he really didn't know anything, so there's nothing here except him being really blown away by the reaction he got in Montreal. Which is cool, but not informative.

Our final segment is Sami and KO, finally face-to-face before their match. They both come out, and in what appears to be a somewhat hasty edit from post production, Sami announces in a voiceover that, while his shoulder is banged up, the match next week is still on! Hooray! That's a weight off of all our shoulders. Sami starts listing off a variety of reasons why KO might have made this personal. Is it about the fact that Sami got to NXT first? No reaction. Is it about Sami being the one to pave the way? No reaction. Is it about Kevin's son? The fact that he'd rather wear Sami's merch than his own father's? Okay, that gets a reaction, but it's still not enough to make Owens break his silence, so while it stings, I'm not sure that's the reason either. It is, however, enough for Kevin Owens to walk out on this whole thing. Sami can't believe that Owens won't give him anything here, so before he leaves, KO has just one thing to say. He says that he hurt Sami last time, and he knows exactly where that injury is. At Unstoppable, he's going to do it again, but this time, he's going to finish Sami for good.

In his heart, where he feels things! That's where Kevin hurt him! They were so close once, but Owens has thrown that all away! Now he hates Sami, and he's going to kill him in the ring! I'm very excited about Unstoppable! I'm always very excited about Takeover events! They always do such a good job with the build! I'll see everybody next week for Unstoppable!

Sami is still listed for NXT in Philly tonight (yet Itami is not) so maybe he isn't as hurt as we all feared. And yeah, that was a "Mr. Black"-at-Kamp Krusty level of corny post-production voiceover.

That was KC Cassidy, graduate of Lance Storm's wrestling school. (As are Tyler Breeze & Emma.) From what I read, this was her NXT TV debut, so I don't think it's the same woman who wrestled Becky Lynch.

A couple of weeks ago Lynch wrestled "Sarah Dobson," aka Crazy Mary Dobson (prowrestling.wikia.com) -- is that who you're thinking of?

Might could be. Like I said, I didn't go back and check. I just remember that the jobber was tall and went for a lot of quick roll-ups, so I figured it might be the same person. Guess not.

By the way, I'm going to see a house show in Albany on Saturday, so you guys can expect a quick report on that. If anybody else is going to a house show and wants to put something up, I'd be really interested hear about the other shows, too.

I'm also going to the house show tomorrow in Albany. I'm not too familiar with NXT outside of these recaps, but everyone who watches says it's a great show. I figured for $15 bucks it was worth checking out.

NXT Philly Night 1 in a nutshell - the show was great, we got Owens/Breeze/Balor for the title before the intermission...which meant Charlotte/Banks got to main event! Which was awesome. Cameos from Joey Styles, Mick Foley and Triple H throughout the night. Unfortunately the crowd was super-brutal and most of the night was channeling some of the worst of the old ECDub audience...

Regal also announced that for Philly Night 2, Owens will face Balor (who said he will "bring the demon).

She was one of the signings from several weeks ago along with fellow Aussie female Jessie McKay. KC's pretty raw yet, but she's a good athlete.

I guess she and Jessie are currently workshopping some sort of Australian LayCool gimmick at NXT house shows.

Have watched a few of the matches from the extra section and watched the History of the AWA from the Chapters. Some thoughts from it: It is entirely understandable watching this DVD why Jim Ross has been fired so often in wrestling.
