Midnight and no thread again ... guess I'll start it.

RAW without HHH and Stephanie feels like a different show, somehow, without them sucking up all the heat for themselves (emphasis on 'sucking'). I wouldn't mind if the two of them never set foot on WWE TV again, to be honest. The show runs much better when they aren't there, even if it's still being booked on the fly by a senile, roid-raging manchild.

Tonight we saw three of the King of the Ring qualifying matches (I may have blinked and missed R-Truth/Stardust, but I don't think it was shown ... dark match?), and if my interpretation of the often incoherent announce team was correct, they're going to blow off this big tournament ... tomorrow on Main Event, a show that probably has less viewers than the replay of TNA Impact. So even if Neville winds up winning, nobody will see it or hear about it. Great idea, WWE. Way to make sure that DOESN'T happen on a PPV where someone might give a shit about it.

On the other hand, we at least got a really awesome Neville/Harper match, even if it seemed like Neville forgot the finish and was going for a pin after the Sunset Bomb out of the corner, before remembering he was supposed to go back up top for the Red Arrow. Damn this guy has ups!

While I was somewhat amused by Kane calling Rollins the WWE equivalent of Justin Bieber, I have a feeling the WWE Universe is going to be chanting it at him for a very long time. I actually like that the only real Authority figure with power on TV right now is Kane, who's at best unwilling allies with Rollins. In fact, it seems at any point that Kane could go back to wearing a mask and setting the ringposts on fire. Though they're probably just treading water until a McMahon can shove the spotlight right on themselves again, and then Kane's brief rebellion will never be mentioned again.

It seems like the crowd has largely forgiven Reigns. And they still like Sandow. It was nice to see the real Sandow come out, even if I didn't find his mimicking Curtis Axel like a 5-year-old amusing. Probably another of Uncle Vince's harebrained last-minute ideas.

Speaking of last minute ideas, we find out that the guy Wyatt has been cutting cryptic promos on this whole time is ... Ryback? Four-five weeks of buildup ... for this?

Not a bad show overall, but still plenty of room for improvement. As long as I get to keep watching Neville do what he does, there's at least one thing to keep me coming back.

Main Event doesn't air on the network; this is an exclusive "special" designed to keep you from cancelling the Network before Thursday.

Yes, Stardust/Truth aired. You missed a great inset promo where Truth promised that as King, he would outlaw all spiders. Actually, a lot of fine inset promos for the KOR quarterfinals tonight.

KOR setting up to be...a rematch of the Extreme Rules pregame show. OH BOY!

Ambrose really needs to demand a match with Ziggler for screwing him out of a KOR win or there's no point to anything...

Rusev denied me a Cena/Slater match, so I kinda lost interest in the show. (Yes, THAT'S what would have kept my interest.)

Xavier shaved; looks weird...

Rosebud Mendes

I don't know how much salt to take Sandow's explanation of "I was told I wasn't 'entertaining enough,'" with, because whoever told him that clearly hadn't been watching his segments. I'm stricken by how tone deaf the people running these shows can be if that's the case. Regardless, however, Damien Sandow has always been one of my favorites and it was nice to actually see him be a person tonight. He showed a lot of shades of Edge with how he connected with the crowd. He's going to be something special if they don't screw him up, but then again, I can't count how many times I've said this and how many times I've watched them screw up, so maybe I shouldn't get my hopes up.

But mark my words, now that Sandow's a face, the Elbow of Disdain is going to be HUGE! Crowds are going to eat that up!

I'm increasingly fascinated in the New Day dynamic, in that they've taken a complete negative and embraced it to turn it all the way around to being awesome. Woods as the cheating scumbag manager-type is infinitely preferable to actually watching him wrestle. And all of three of these guys have a great chemistry. Self-deluded ironic heels acting like babyfaces is exactly what the Bo Dallas gimmick should have been, which is why it's that much sadder to watch Bo just flounder out there, completely directionless.

Given how nonsensical Bray Wyatt's backstage vignettes have become and how they've just become Sid-esque ramblings, I have to wonder if he just has a random wheel backstage that determines his next targets. It just happened to land on Ryback this week.

Neville and Harper's match gave me a good feeling. A very real "I feel good about the future of this company" good. I haven't felt that in a good while.

I'm pretty sure when Sandow had been told he wasn't entertaining enough, that was during his 'snooty intellectual' gimmick, and to be honest, that didn't have any legs to stand on (partially because it's been hideously overused, and partially because it's hard to entertain people when all you're doing is calling them stupid). His string of random gimmicks was cringe-worthy, as we revisited tonight. His in-ring style's always been solid; he just needed to figure out a way to connect. The first time I felt he really came into his own was when he started the Mizdow gimmick, and actually became a better Miz than the Miz. Now the fans are solidly behind him, and I hope whatever he decides to do, the WWE doesn't squander his massive potential. He's a fantastic mimic, but I don't know if copying whoever his opponent is that week is going to work any better than his Random Gimmick Roulette.

Also I have to admit, it's been so long since he actually used the Elbow of Disdain that I forgot it was his move and thought he was switching from Hulk to Rock with a People's Elbow.

Totally agree on Neville/Harper. If every RAW was just these two guys wrestlng for three hours, I don't think I'd change the channel once.

As a side note, JBL was even worse than normal on commentary ... they really, really need to fire him. He was a terrible WWE champion and he sucks even harder on commentary.

KOTR is a great idea and to make it a Network exclusive is an interesting take on it. Still, you have to put the right people in that tournament. R-Truth is not one of those people. I foresee a Big Show KO punch to Kane or Reigns to end Payback. New Day can be a great stable, but they need foes who are red hot as well. The show is better without HHH and Steph, it has been for awhile.

We are in a weird place where Cena is in the midcard kinda burying Rusev while getting Lana who can't wrestle over. I do hope Cena does drop the belt to someone in the midcard. I just don't want to see him channel Churchill since I don't think he can spell Churchill.

The Midcard is moving towards being good again. However, the main event is Rollins, Orton and Reigns with a possible Kane appearance. I don't want to see Kane wrestle in that spot. Its an interesting trio to work the summer with, I just think a fourth guy should be added. Sadly instead of a Barrett or Ambrose or Ziggler, it will be Cena.

I think the record is Wednesday.

While comparing the high-flying abilities of Neville and Owen Hart, Booker, in reference to Owen said, "He didn't defy gravity." Nope. He sure didn't.

Solid Raw. I liked the stuff with Sandow. I loved the Harper/Neville match. I wish Bo Dallas would've won. I love that his brother is avenging the loss. Weight gain + facial hair = Bro Wyatt.

Booker has (sort of) apologized.

... Y'know, I actually heard Booker T say that line, but for some reason it just didn't connect in my brain until you pointed it out. That was some extremely, extremely poor wording there. I'm sure Booker in no way meant to make light of Owen's death, and I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt (especially with Vince barking orders in his ear all night), but damn that was an unfortunate way to compare Owen and Neville's high flier abilities.
