So I like to watch the Comedy Central block at about 10pm and then at 11:30 switch over to Conan for the opening monologue, maybe a guest or two if it's someone interesting. Roman Reigns was his guest tonight, talking up Wrestlemania and talking up the title match (though I found calling him 'one of the most popular' wrestlers in the WWE is a bit dated ... maybe he used to be, but the fans're definitely turning).

I kinda expected him to be as boring and wooden as he is in his promos, but honestly he was cool, calm, relaxed and had a good time talking. It was utterly different from the guy who struggles with his promos, so much so that I'm starting to think the problem is less that he's uncomfortable with a microphone, it's that he doesn't do well reading someone else's script. Granted, a late night talk show is the furthest thing from a hostile crowd you can have; the host's entire job is to make you and whatever project you're doing look good, so they can keep getting guests and keep getting paid. Still, even assuming they went through the interview ahead of time and he got coached, he did a pretty swell job.

If the Roman Reigns I saw on Conan was the same guy who talks in the ring, someone who was cool, funny and personable, he'd be over as hell right now. Making him spew stupidity like 'Sufferin' succotash, son!' only makes the fans groan, and you can tell that he hates reciting their idiotic script.

Honestly, if they're still planning on putting the belt on Roman, the best thing in the world would be to fire whoever they have writing his scripts and just let him wing it or even just come up with his own stuff ahead of time. Look at how well it's worked out for Bray Wyatt; the man has somehow managed to pull off a halfway compelling feud with someone who literally has not shown up once since the feud started, and from what I've heard on this board, he writes all his material himself.

Probably the clip will be up on YouTube tomorrow, so I'll post the video once I find it. Anyone else catch this? If so, what'd you think? Even if not, do you think taking Roman off script would do him any good?

Going back to the old "bullet points" promo style would probably benefit at least 75% of the roster, Reigns included. For all we know, the next Austin or Rock has been in WWE for years but we've just never seen it since everyone has to stick to Creative's lousy scripts word-for-word.

"They showed Kazarian talking on his cell phone. Tenay said that was a sign of disrespect. West suggested that perhaps Kazarian was phoning in the moves to someone who is going to help him prepare to face one of these wrestlers. That's one of the worst guesses in history for why someone is on the phone."

Since his move to TBS, every single episode of Conan streams in its entirety the next day. There's clips of Roman up at TeamCoco.com right now, and the full show should be there later this morning...

Originally posted by graves9 I liked the Zema Ion-Nese match but I do wish they would have done a better job introducing them to the audience and having them 3-4 minutes more.
