Last week was a bit of a comedown show after two weeks of insane action with Aztec Warfare followed by Prince Puma’s first title defense, a crazy lucha libre fourway match, Drago killing himself and King Cuerno with balcony dive through a table, and Blue Demon finally getting revenge on Chavo Guerrero, who took him out back in episode two. But this is Lucha Underground, so a comedown show involves things like a Last Man Standing match in which King Cuerno stole a page from John Cena’s book but looked like far less of a tool when doing it.

We start with a recap of The Crew taking out Big Ryck, extinguishing a cigar in his eye last week, as well as Cage’s sneak attack on Puma after his victory against Fenix.

Cage is lifting weights in the dungeon-like locker room. Dario Cueto likes a man who takes the bull by the horns, but Cage took the bull by the huevos. Cueto has informed Puma that he’ll be defending the title tonight against Cage. Cage says no, Puma will be losing the title tonight, to a machine. The delivery from Cage was a bit cheesy but the overall segment was perfectly acceptable.

At ringside, Vampiro is pumped up. He had a sit down interview with Prince Puma and Konnan, but first… wrestling!

First to the ring is Mils Muertes, accompanied by Katrina, who is thankfully still alive after that rat bastard Johnny Mundo tried to kick her face off at Aztec Warfare. Striker claims that Muertes is ashamed of himself for not winning the championship as the crowd breaks into a Mils Muertes chant.

His opponent is Fenix, who gets a surprising number of boos from the crowd. Apparently I’m not the only one who’s not impressed by his excessive flippiness.

This is the second meeting between these two men, having first battled for the #20 spot at Aztec Warfare following their successive victories in the 10 Man and the Battle Royal. Muertes charges the second the bell sounds but Fenix dodges and rolls up him for 1. Muertes tries for a kick but Fenix catches his leg and goes for another roll up, again only getting 1.

Muertes whiffs a punch and Fenix responds with a forearm to the face which seems to offend Muertes more than anything. Knife edge chop from Fenix is no sold as well. Fenix whips Muertes across the ring and follows up with a huge flying knee and Muertes is still on his feet, simply shaking his head in response. Fenix runs all the way across the ring and nails Muertes with a double knee to the chest, but Muertes completely ignores him, turning to Catrina for advice. Fenix goes for another charge from all the way across the ring, only to be punched in the face so hard it turns him inside out!

Huge Mils Muertes! chant from the crowd. Fenix tries to charge again but Muertes simply overhead tosses him upside down into the corner. Muertes picks him up and drops him on his head with a big DDT that gets two. Right hand rocks Fenix but a backdrop attempt results in a kick to the face instead. Muertes still hasn’t went down, though. Fenix goes for a springboard handspring back elbow but Muertes catches him and launches him with a belly to back suplex. Two count again.

Corner whip and Fenix tries for a tiger feint kick but Muertes catches him and just yanks him back into the ring, dropping him on the back of his head. Muertes murders Fenix with the spear but it only gets two! They make a big deal about Fenix kicking out of it, but the only person Mils Muertes has ever actually tried to pin following a spear was Sexy Star during Aztec Warfare.

Lets go, Fenix! Fenix sucks! dueling chant from the crowd. I might simply chalk that up to habit from the John Cena chants, except people have been booing Fenix and cheering Mils Muertes the entire match. Did Catrina conspire to ship in a contingent of Mils Muertes fans for this taping?

Muertes sets Fenix up on the top rope, then just throws him off. Muertes goes for the pin but only gets two and the announcers harp on him for not hooking the leg. Muertes lifts Fenix up by the throat and backs him into the corner, then drops him with punches. Muertes sets Fenix up on the top again and nails him with a superplex, but Fenix manages to hook Muertes’ leg with his own, surprising him with a three count for the win, handing Muertes his first singles loss.

I’m fine with how this went down. Muertes looked like a monster and Fenix looked like the plucky underdog who was able to squeak out a lucky victory through sheer tenacity. It was booked extremely well and sets up for a rubber match down the line. Fenix also stands to benefit more from being the one to stop Muertes’ winning streak than would Johnny Mundo, who I have to assume will be facing him in the near future after the events at Aztec Warfare.

Promo video for Cage shows him fighting three guys in a parking lot, no selling a bottle to the back of the head, then catching another guy’s arm as he swings a bottle, grabbing it and shatter it in his grip. Cage isn’t immortal, nobody handed him a mask or a cape, so he’s determined to meet every challenge like it’s his last. He’s not a man, he’s a machine. If this were the WWE, John Cena would probably be making jokes about what sort of machine he is. A sybian? A milking device? Andre the Giant in a mask?

Back from break, it’s time for a traditional lucha libre six man match. Already in the ring, sans music, are Super Fly, Argenis, and Aerostar. Their opponents are Cortez Castro, Mr. Cisco, (with Melissa Sanchez emphasizing the Mr this week), and Bael. Nice spot from Cisco where he purposely walked around the ring and entered from the face corner to intimidate them. Striker asks Vampiro to explain why the six man tag is the traditional style of match in Mexico and Vampiro says he has no idea, he asked the veterans the same thing when he first arrived down there and they said that’s just the way things had always been done.

We start out with Super Fly and Cortez the Killer. Lock up and Castro backs Super Fly into the corner, then knees him in the gut, but an arm drag attempts is thwarted as the luchador cartwheels out of it and then back handsprings to create distance. Super Fly leapfrogs a charging Castro then bumps him to create space. Castro tries to follow him into the corner but gets caught with a headscissors and tossed to the floor. Bael goes to check on him while Super Fly knocks Mr. Cisco off the other side of the corner with a forearm. Super Fly then goes up top and comes down with a beautiful moonsault on Castro & Bael. He immediately rolls Cortez back into the ring but the referee doesn’t even get off a one count. Slap to Castro but a whip attempt is stopped and turned into a forearm instead, allowing Castro to tag in Cisco.

Cisco and Super Fly dodge back and forth with leap frogs, drop downs, and various other misses until Super Fly pulls off a seated springboard arm drag that sends Cisco running and flailing toward his corner like someone is chasing him with a flaming pitchfork. He tags in Bael as Argenis is tagged in on the other side. Forearms drop the luchador but Bael misses a corner splash and gets caught with a belly to back suplex which is good for a one count. Argenis goes for a kick and gets caught, tries to spin into another kick but gets slapped in the face instead. He’s had enough so he tags back in Cisco.

Cisco goes for another dodging sequence and pulls of the leapfrog but when he tries to roll underneath, Argenis pulls back and then kicks him square in the ass, followed by a flying headscissors takedown. He then tags out to Aerostar who springboards into the ring, then hits a springboard headscissors for two. Cisco reverses a corner whip and throws Aerostar into Argenis who hasn’t exited the ring, but Argenis elevates Aerostar up and over to the apron, then boots Cisco in the face. Argenis then stands on the second rope and Aerostar climbs into his shoulders and flies off with a big crossbody which only manages to keep The Crew’s enforcer down for two.

Aerostar tries to build up speed but runs into a straight kick to the face which puts a stop to that. While Aerostar is down, Cisco elects to slap Super Fly, drawing him in. Super Fly returns the slap, then both luchadors send Cisco across the the other corner. He comes out and misses clotheslines on both men who do a running switch, sending Aerostar back into Cisco’s corner and eating double boots. Super Fly tries to follow up but gets backdropped to the floor. A flying forearm in the corner nails Aerostar who is then dropped by a kick from the outside by Castro. Cisco then hits a facewash dropkick to the floor immediately followed by Bael doing the same thing out the other side of the post.

Cisco makes it back into the ring but only gets a 2 count, then nails a curbstomp with his foot placed in Aerostar’s lower back. Tag to Cortez Castro who bodyslams Aerostar and then hits a running knee drop. It’s only good for two, so he tags in Bael. Snap suplex from Bael as the crowd chants for him to Buy New Dickeys! but instead of going for the pin, he elects to bite Aerostar’s forehead through the mask.

Castro tags back in and lays in the boots then throws a double underhook suplex. It sounds like the crowd is chanting You Can't Wrestle which makes no sense but a retweet from the official Lucha Underground account clears it up that it’s a You Can’t Dress Well chant, which fits with the Dickeys chant from earlier. I guss. Bael tags back in to defend the honor of his pants and locks in a rear chinlock, but Aerostar elbows out and lands a jawbreaker. He charges Bael in the corner but gets elevated to the top rope where he immediately comes off with a blind back elbow that lands perfectly, allowing him to crawl to his corner and tag in Argenis who enters with a springboard headscissors for the freshly tagged Senor Cisco.

Cisco tries for yet another dodging sequence but Argenis holds into the ropes right off the bat and kicks Cisco hard across the chest as he gets up. Cortez jumps in at this point as Cisco recovers and the referee allows it because apparently nobody explained to him that the other wrestlers actually have to leave the ring for someone else to take their spot in a traditional lucha libre match. Castro chops Argenis and whips him into the ropes but eats a strange looking float over headscissors which causes Cortez to take a powder.

Striker suspects Argenis may have dislocated his hip due to his slowness getting up and clutching at his leg, but the luchador quickly puts a stop to that line of thought by superkicking Bael off the ring apron, then sunset flip powerbombing Cisco, which brings in both Bael & Castro to break up the pin. Cisco dodges a dropkick form Argenis, then catapults him into a kick from Castro. Cisco keeps a hold of Argenis, draping him over his knees as Bael comes off with the double stomp to the chest. Cisco goes for the cover but Argenis barely kicks out before 3.

Backdrop allows Argenis to make the tag, which brings back Aerostar with a no hands springboard splash to Cisco. Castro tries to run in but is met with a headscissors takedown from Super Fly who tries to build up some speed but Castro grabs his ankles and yanks him out of the ring instead. Super Fly slaps the taste out of Castro’s mouth as Bael enters the ring. Bael fakes a dive to the floor but stops short of the ropes, turns around and flips off the crowd instead, so Super Fly yanks him out to the floor and slaps him as well. Super Fly lays into both Castro & Bael as Cisco and Argenis go at it in the ring. Cisco misses a dropkick in the corner, flipping upside down. Argenis charges but Cisco dodges, so Argenis runs up the ropes and comes off with a crossbody to the floor that really only gets his own partner but Bael & Castro are nice enough to sell anyway. Cisco climbs to the top but Aerostar puts a stop to that with a kick. Aerostar then hurricanrana’s Cisco off the top to the pile below. In doing so, Aerostar appears to crack the back of his head on the ringpost, but recovers and might have actually landed on his feet but one of his legs gets tangled up with Castro’s knees, causing him to land on his back instead.

Aerostar is fine, though, as he somersaults back into the ring and then flies into the pile with a springboard somersault flip, as Striker notes that even the little kids are chanting the dirty words now, in reference to the well deserved Holy Shit! chant that has erupted.

Back in the ring, Aerostar and Mr. Cisco go toe to toe with chest slaps before the face takes the first short cut with a kick to the gut. Reversed whip and then a blind tag leads to the 3D into the codebreaker as Castro pins Aerostar for the win.

Last week, Vampiro had a sit down interview with Cage. This week, he sits down with Konnan and Prince Puma. Puma doesn’t say a word the entire interview. Every time he starts to speak, Konnan stops him and answers on his behalf. Vampiro tries to stir the pot, asking Puma why he doesn’t have his own opinion to express, showing previously unseen footage of Konnan cutting a promo following Puma’s victory at Aztec Warfare. Konnan takes offense and gets in Vampiro’s face, but Puma steps between them and pulls Konnan away.

In a lot of ways, Lucha Underground is the anti-WWE and this is one of the more minor but (to me, at least) interesting ones. WWE doesn’t like to push masked wrestlers who can’t speak English, whereas Lucha Underground takes a guy who speaks perfectly fluent English, throws a mask on him, and intentionally never lets him speak. And he gets way over. (For those who have never heard Prince Puma/Ricochet speak, he has a pretty apparent Kentucky accent that doesn’t fit in so well with his direct descendent of the Aztecs gimmick.)

It’s time for the main event. Prince Puma comes out first, accompanied all the way to the ring for the very first time by Konnan. I’m a bit surprised that the champion is out first, but as Cage makes his way to the ring, it occurs to me that there’s probably a good reason for that. That turns out to be the case as Puma nails him with a suicide dive before he even makes it to the ring. The ref calls for the bell as the champ lays into the challenger with kicks and forearms.

Cage manages to roll into the ring, then catches Puma, picking him up and slamming him into the corner, but Puma comes back with a ‘rana. He ducks a clothesline and tries to hit Cage with a springboard crossbody but Cage shoulderblocks him in mid air, sending Puma spinning to the canvas.

Multiple shoulders to the gut in the corner, then Cage whips Puma into the corner so hard he ricochets off. Huge back drop sends Puma crashing to the ground again. Two count, so Cage locks in a half-nelson crossface. Puma tries to fight out but Cage hits him with a backbreaker and spinning neckbreaker. Cage chokes out Puma in the ropes as Konnan gets in Puma’s face and reminds him he’s smarter than the machine.

Cage whiffs a clothesline and Puma tries to land his back handspring headscissors takedown but Cage stops him and wheelbarrows him up, but Puma counters that into a victory roll for two. Short arm forearm puts Cage back on the offensive. Puma tries for a headscissors from the corner but Cage pushes him off to the apron. Puma immediately leaps back into headscissors position, so Cage turns around and splatters him with a sitout Alabama Slam for another near fall.

Cage lays into Puma with corner clotheslines, then picks him up for a powerslam but Puma reverses it into a DDT. Puma hits a shoulder to the gut while sliding through the ropes, then lands an enzuigiri, followed by a springboard crossbody elbow for another two count. Puma wants a Northern Lights suplex but Cage blocks and turns it into a double underhook suplex of his own. Puma rolls out to the apron. Cage wants to superplex him back in but Puma slips out, slaps him, kicks his feet out from under him, which drops him throat first across the top, then re-enters the ring with springboard double knees for yet another two count.

Puma stupidly goes for a fireman’s carry but can’t get the elbow up. Cage elbows out and tries for a belly to back but Puma flips out and grabs a waistlock. Cage elbows out of that as well and backs Puma hard into the corner. Cage charges and Puma floats over to dodge but Cage catches him climbing up and follows him to the second rope. Delayed suplex by Cage but Puma wiggles out and kicks him in the head, sending him crashing to the mat. Puma goes off the top but Cage catches him in a jackhammer for two.

Cage gets Puma up for his Weapon X finisher (Gory special into a reverse STO) but Puma flips out and jacks his jaw with a high jumping knee. Puma tries for a tiger feint kick over the top rope but Cage catches him and carries him back in the ring for a world’s strongest slam. Cage then surprises everyone by somersaulting into a picture perfect springboard moonsault from the corner.

Cage goes for a powerbomb but Puma slips out and nails Cage with a European uppercut and a series of kicks.Cage has had enough, though, and puts a stop to it with a one handed spinebuster. He powerbombs Puma and holds on to go for a second powerbomb but Puma turns it into a sunset flip and then rearranges his face with a basement dropkick.

Both men struggle to their feet. Puma charges Cage but gets alley ooped face first into the corner. Cage then picks him up and nails a modified F5. He goes for a cocky pin but only gets two. Cage tries a pumphandle slam but Puma flips out and nails him with a superkick. That doesn’t drop him so Puma kicks him in the head again. Cage tries to hit a desperation discus clothesline but Puma ducks and nails him with an enzuigiri but that’s still not enough to floor the machine.

Puma hits a Northern Lights suplex and holds on, rolling over and going for a vertical suplex, but Cage appears to lock in a front facelock. Eventually, though, Puma lifts him up into the regular suplex and I wonder if Cage just didn’t understand the spot.

Puma signals for the 630 but is slow getting up. Cage recovers but instead of getting out of the way, he shoves the referee into the ropes, causing Puma to fall crotch first in the corner. The referee admonishes Cage but opts not to disqualify him, but changes his tune after Cage blatantly kicks Puma in the balls. The referee calls for the bell and gets the belt, but Cage isn’t done. He hits the Weapon X on Puma, then shoves the referee down. Cage picks Puma up by the throat but Konnan is in and breaks his cane over Cage’s back. The machine no sells the shot, however, kick Konnan in the gut and punching him in the face as a kid in the audience yells out Why are you hitting an old man? Cage then takes the belt and lays out Konnan before ripping the belt in half.

Konnan is bleeding as Cage poses above him. Trainers come in to take care of Konnan who’s sporting the full crimson mask as Puma looks at his destroyed belt in disbelief.

Dario Cueto is looking on at the action through his office window but is interrupted by Angela Fong who throws him into his chair. She’s looking for a man, a man who owes her. Cueto insists it isn’t him because he always pays his debts. She says she knows… What does she know? I don’t know because this is where the DVR cuts off. I’m going to have to assume that whoever the hell Cueto has locked up in the basement, the man who likes to destroy pretty things, is who Fong has been searching for this entire time. Perhaps we’ll find out next week. Unless we found out this week and I just missed it because of crappy timing. (I just "caught the replay") he's in the temple. Cueto says she's welcome to question anyone on the roster and asks if she has a name. She only knows one word. Matanza. Wait, Sgt. Slaughter has joined Lucha Underground?!

Another solid show in a thus far undefeated streak from the El Ray network. At this point, Lucha Underground has probably slid into third place behind WCW Saturday Night and Central States Championship Wrestling on my list of personal favorite wrestling shows of all time.

After not having won a damn thing since the beginning, The Crew have now won two straight, building them up for when Big Ryck seeks his revenge. Mils Muertes has an opportunity for building character after suffering his first defeat. (Perhaps an alliance with mutual Fenix hater Pentagon Jr?) And despite a bit of a lame finish, Cage has proven himself to be a worthy competitor for Puma. I'm curious to see where all of these storylines go, but there's enough else going on that it's possible none of this will be addressed next week. We'll find out in seven days!

Thank you for starting this, I was about to, but I ain't gonna do a whole write up like you and this episode had so much good shit that I need to talk about it.

This show is so good, that I am feeling cheated that I'm finding so little to complain about, and when something does come up, I feel terrible complaining about it. Perfect example of this is Cage's gimmick line "They call me Cage... because I'm a MACHINE!!!" This line makes no sense to me and I think it's terrible. Other than that, after these two weeks of seeing him, I really like him. He's a typical 'hoss' but he's quick and can do some flippy stuff along with the power move set. He's decent as a talker, but that one goofy, nonsensical line about being a machine needs to be dropped. A 'cage' is not a 'machine' and I don't understand what they mean by it because it makes no sense. Again, other than that one thing, I think the guy is pretty great. That video where he beats up the dudes by the railroad tracks felt like they a making him look like the Terminator, they could even say he comes from the future. If they were to go with that, it might be the second 'wrestlecrap' thing on this show that actually works.

The first wrestlecrap thing that works for me is Angela Fong, who might actually be the Smoke Monster from Lost. That or a ninja, cause she's asian. Having her sneaking around the temple and disappearing into thin air would be really, really stupid if it was on any other wrestling show, but on this show, it just works. Maybe I'm just being too easy on this show, I don't know.

I wish they'd let Prince Puma talk. I want to hear what he has to say about everything. Has he actually talked on camera yet? Shit, I can't remember. Is Konnan not able to wrestle anymore? He kinda looks out of shape, but the shirts he wears all look oversized and could just be hiding how he looks under them. He doesn't really look like he needs the cane for walking, it looks more like just part of a character he's playing. If he is able to still wrestle, I'd LOVE to see something come of his 'feud' with Vampiro. The way that interview was going, I can see it happening at a later date, as long as they are both able to work.

The matches were all good to great this week, but I thought the stand out feature of all of them was the commentary from Striker and Vampiro. It's so refreshing to hear them talk about the actual matches going on in front of them or the little history lessons about lucha libre that tie into the match going on in front of them, instead of some bullshit being fed to them about shit that isn't going on right there in front of them. I have been so sick and tired of trying to enjoy a match on WWE or TNA and all the commentary guys will talk about is something that is not on the screen. I fucking hate that! If this were a WWE program, during every match, all I'd be hearing about is some bullshit John Cena did or fuck all whatever. They'd be telling you ANYTHING BUT what is happening in the ring. I understand you gotta sell your brand and since you think your audience is stupid, you gotta remind them about what happened 5 minutes ago before a commercial break, but I fucking hate it.

That six man tag match was a great example of what the WWE does wrong. If that match was on Raw, it would have been 4 minutes long and for the entire match, we'd be hearing Cole, JBL, and Booker T talking about how great Roman Reigns is and whether he will beat Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania in two months. Instead, Striker and Vampiro start the match off by talking about 6 man tag matches in mexico and how they are important in lucha libre. Then they go on talking about all the guys in the match and things those guys have done over the past few weeks, as they pertain to this match. They even actually called the match, which you rarely ever hear during actual wrestling matches on WWE programing.

Another example how I didn't hear them, not once, mention how Johnny Mundo kicked Katrina during the match between Mils Muertes and Fenix. It that was on Raw, all you would hear from Cole during the match, is about Mundo kicking Katrina.

I can't wait to see more Cage and Puma. Cage's moonsault was shocking and amazing for a guy like that. It felt like the first time I saw Brock Lesnar do a his shooting star press. I skipped back and rewatched that shit a bunch of times too. Cage is surprisingly agile for his size. He looks like McMahons wet dream buy he works like early Scott Steiner, before the steroids grounded him. The last shocker from the match was the destruction of the belt. I actually sat there with my jaw dropped when he did that. It never even dawned on me that anyone would ever do something like that. I've seen people toss them in trash cans or off bridges, but never actually tear the thing apart like that. Yeah, it's just a belt, I know, but I'm still shocked by it.

I know I keep repeating myself after every episode of this show, but god damn, this show is awesome! Your ranking of favorite wrestling shows is almost the exact same as mine, except in place of Central States (never heard of it), my #2 is USWA, where I first saw the Rock when he was going as Flex Kavanah. WCW Saturday Night was definitely the high water mark of wrestling shows.

Forget it Josh... it's Cerebustown.

I refuse to take notes or do any writing when watching the show for the first time, so my recaps are generally delayed until I have time for a second viewing.

The first wrestlecrap thing that works for me is Angela Fong, who might actually be the Smoke Monster from Lost. That or a ninja, cause she's asian. I'm going to go with the ninja route. The sound effect insinuated that she ran away really quickly rather than disappeared into thin air. Cueto looked more confused as to who the hell she was rather than where she went, as well. I'd say it deserves a pass because it's appeared in really small doses and has had absolutely no bearing on anything that happens in the ring.

I really wonder who she's looking for, though. "Matanza" means "slaughter". The only person that's appeared on the show thus far whom that name could refer is Mils Muertes ("A Thousand Deaths") but she was in the temple as Muertes faced off against Mundo in the battle royal, so I don't think it's him. There are only two people listed on the roster on Wikipedia (which I've learned as of late is a dirty liar when it comes to wrestling) who haven't appeared on TV. One is Hernandez whom cubs says didn't actually appear on camera during the tapings. The other is Martin Causas who was on the last season of Tough Enough. His Lucha Underground ring name doesn't fit the "slaughter" description, however, and he has a valet already so I doubt it's him. I wonder if it's someone who wasn't added to the roster until the next set of tapings which I believe are going on now.

I wish they'd let Prince Puma talk. I want to hear what he has to say about everything. Has he actually talked on camera yet?

No, he hasn't said a word. I suspect it's because he doesn't have even a trace of a Mexican/Hispanic accent and they're afraid it would hurt his connection with the crowd. I could be completely off base with that, but they have put a lot of emphasis on his heritage.

Is Konnan not able to wrestle anymore? He kinda looks out of shape, but the shirts he wears all look oversized and could just be hiding how he looks under them. According to Wikipedia, Konnan had a hip replacement and a kidney transplant in 2007. Wikipedia states that Konnan announced his return to in ring competition back in April but has no mention of any matches actually taking place since then, so I don't know. Profightdb.com has him participating in a Battle Royal in 2012, but no normal matches listed since 2006. Again, I'm not sure how accurate that information is.

Another example how I didn't hear them, not once, mention how Johnny Mundo kicked Katrina during the match between Mils Muertes and Fenix. It that was on Raw, all you would hear from Cole during the match, is about Mundo kicking Katrina.

Johnny Mundo is arguably their version of John Cena as far as star power and positioning on the card is concerned. The fact that they didn't feel the need to show/mention him a single time on the show is refreshing. Cena could be injured and out for a month and you wouldn't go a full hour without his name coming up on Raw.

Cage is surprisingly agile for his size. He looks like McMahons wet dream buy he works like early Scott Steiner, before the steroids grounded him.

He was in FCW in 2008/2009. He won the tag titles with Justin Gabriel at one point but they lost them to Bray Wyatt & Bo Dallas that same night. He was released not too long after that, for no stated reason. I've watched a few of his indie matches on YouTube and he seems to connect to the crowd really well.

Central States (never heard of it), my #2 is USWA, where I first saw the Rock when he was going as Flex Kavanah.

Central States was the NWA territory centered on Kansas City. It was how I discovered wrestling through their Saturday morning show on one of the local KC stations, as well as the first live events I attended. I'm sure the show wasn't that great, but for a five year old who had never heard of professional wrestling, it was pretty amazing. I still have vivid memories of Dusty Rhodes coming down and piledriving Bulldog Bob Brown on the concrete, which caused him to be stripped of the title while he was out with a neck injury. (I also still have mental scars from the first show I ever attended, on Christmas Eve, when Bruiser Brody & Abdullah the Butcher beat the shit out of each other with a trash can about 15' from me when I was 7 or 8 years old. It's my most treasured holiday memory.)

The Uproxx reviewer (uproxx.com) argues that the Puma/Cage angle is really LU vs. WWE. Puma is the epitome of the lucha style vs. the representation of the North American hoss. I see it (especially when Cage is using a kindasorta F5), but it doesn't overwhelm the story.

I really expected Konnan to turn on Puma, but spilling blood on behalf of his ward makes this angle stronger. PUMAMANIA RUNNIN' WILD will be fun.

The Crew is winning me over by, um, winning, and everyone is helped by this. The standard tag format meant we got rare restholds, but the chaos at the end of the match means anyone can win. More important, anyone can LOSE, and doing so isn't such a crushing removal of credibility.

What do you do with Mundo now? Mils has Fenix, Puma has Cage, Does he team with Ryck? Do they break up the Drago/Cuerno feud to give them different opponents?

I totally thought that while watching. Cage is a machine, Cena's just the prototype.

Excellent stuff all around. Aerostar is the best, if only because whenever I see him do anything in the ring, I just imagine it's really a mini-van under that mask.

Minor spoilers: Looks like Mundo will be feuding with Cuerno and Drago will move on to a series with Aerostar.

I liked this show better than last week.

I wonder if it's someone who wasn't added to the roster until the next set of tapings which I believe are going on now.

They are. I may be playing a game to see if I can keep the results off wikipedia.

After mystery lady was shown with a crew t-shirt on last week without Striker/Vampiro acknowledging, I honestly thought they might have just dropped the character until she popped up at the end. It's just going really really slowly instead.

I really wonder who she's looking for, though. "Matanza" means "slaughter". The only person that's appeared on the show thus far whom that name

This may be more nitpicky than it's meant to be, but she said the only word, not a name. Given most everyone on this show is meant to have a mystery past, you could tie anyone in. She didn't appear to know a name, she didn't even appear to know the context of the word, she's really not gotten a lot to go on - no wonder she seems frustrated all the time.

No, he hasn't said a word. I suspect it's because he doesn't have even a trace of a Mexican/Hispanic accent and they're afraid it would hurt his connection with the crowd. I could be completely off base with that, but they have put a lot of emphasis on his heritage.

I don't know this, but I'm kind of wondering if Puma's character is actually meant to be mute and Konnan kept interrupting to hide it for his protege. Konnan hasn't seem surprised that Puma hasn't been talking in any of the many skits we've seen.

Is Konnan not able to wrestle anymore?

He's done. Any match listing you see for Konnan since about 2007 is generally guys from earlier in the match pretty much wrestling on his behalf while Konnan's unable to more than a couple spots. Konnan underwent hip surgery before these tapings; he'd been holding out for a miraculous surgery to come back long enough for a retirement tour but none could be found.

It's funny - because the next show was taped about 2.5 months after this one, Konnan may look a lot better because he'll be farther out from his surgery. But because he just got destroyed, they'll probably make him up to look a lot worse.

Vampiro has retired at least a dozen times - the last time he came out of retirement he won a major Mexican indy heavyweight title, did an interview where he explained he was never any good but the people love him, and then retired rather than actually losing the title. He's amazing. Vampiro could maybe do a couple of spots that would look fine, but you wouldn't want to see a match with him.

That skit felt like they were building to a match that's not happening. It could've been they just liked the Vampiro/Konnan dynamic, but it was also a moment where they very much pointed out Puma wasn't speaking and hopefully there's a plan behind it. This - the #1 babyface being a nonspeaking character - is the biggest possible difference between Lucha Underground and WWE (and most every other wrestling promotion.)

I don't get El Rey but I do get Uni Mas. I watch LU on Saturdays in Spanish.

This show is fantastic. Story lines interconnect and MATTER.

And Brandon Stroud is the LU reviewer at Uproxx. That guy gets it.

Vampiro has been harping on Konnan taking advantage of Prince Puma from day one. Konnan has done a tremendous job in his role, but he's not the reason Puma is over, or at least is a very minor part of it. I could see Konnan turning on Puma after he refuses to listen to him and Vampiro stepping in as his de facto manager and the feud going through Puma and whomever Konnan brings in to replace him. Let Konnan speak for someone else who's English isn't great and he could definitely help them out. On the other hand, I don't see Vampiro getting anyone over on his own, but I could see him benefiting someone like Puma who's already over. (Pentagon Jr comes to mind. A feud between him and Puma doesn't seem likely at this point but they could change that with an episode or two.)

As for Mundo, I could see him inserting himself in the Puma/Cage feud. I suspect he'll be jumped by The Crew at some point, since they do Dario Cueto's bidding and the only thing Dario Cueto has done nefariously is express his disdain for Johnny Mundo and his desire to see him hurt. (He also brought in Mils Muertes explicitly to take out Blue Demon, so maybe Blue Demon joins up with Mundo & Ryck for a six man against The Crew?)

It would be nice to see Drago pick up a couple of wins before going after King Cuerno again. Who is Chavo going to go after now that Blue Demon has extracted his revenge? I suppose they could have another match but it seems unnecessary at this point. It's completely refreshing to be wondering "What are they going to do next?" instead of "Why the hell aren't they doing ____?"

OK, I can't let that one go buy w/out commenting. Why would that be sweet? Konnan is a lazy sack of shit w/ nothing to offer. Why would you want him in the WWE?
