So I'm assuming this was all just a cash grab/publicity stunt for him since if it really was about being hurt, he wouldn't jump to the UFC the first chance he got.

Loved him but no desire to care about the UFC and if this was true then it's pretty low of him.

If for no other reason, the dude might be getting bored at home. AJ's on the road always, and he has a gig writing Thor comics, so he sits and types for a paycheck. He's been home from the WWE for half the year after traveling for years, even doing commentary during injuries. If he's feeling squirrelly, joining the UFC keeps him around friends while he stays active and works toward a prominent, competitive goal.

It wasn't about being hurt. It was about not having enough time to heal up. He's had over 10 months to heal up since the Royal Rumble. On multiple occasions, he's talked about it's the best he's felt in years. He clearly looks much healthier than he has since coming to the WWE. And unlike wresting, UFC expects you to call in hurt when you are, because they don't want any excuses in their fights.

I think Punk is a piece of shit for the way he walked out, but the people claiming the whole thing was bullshit in order to increase UFC PPV buys are being ridiculous. We don't even know when Punk is fighting yet. There were more than 3 months between the announcement of Brock Lesnar signing to UFC and his debut fight. It's entirely plausible that Punk was still in negotiations when the podcasts were recorded. If that's the case, he would have been completely stupid to talk about it.

But yes, it was a cash grab/publicity stunt. The only people who go on these shows not looking for publicity are the ones that are so washed up that they're just thankful that anyone will still listen to their stories. Every single thing a professional wrestler does is a publicity stunt, including the actual wrestling.

Apart from being beaten up and worn out, WWE says wrestlers are independent contractors. If they are, you can't blame a wrestler for acting like one.

All they've said is sometime in 2015. It wouldn't shock me if they tried to get him on the big show in July, but I can also see them holding him off to the New Years show. He'll need lots of time to prepare.

It's not just about being hurt, it's that he was put in with unsafe workers, wasn't given time to heal, and had medical issues (staph, concussions) ignored because he was needed on the road. In UFC, he knows that the other guys will be hitting him for real and will prepare himself accordingly, and he won't have to sign for fights until he's ready to sign for fights.

just realized Punk was really so upset about the Fed Ex not (only) because of the $$$ or the rudeness, but because it of the one year no compete that would've stopped him from going to UFC until June 2015. That was his plan all along.

He could've still gone to Bellator, but he's obviously getting a better deal if both promotions can go for him and he specifically wanted UFC. (Meltzer's free piece today confirms that.) He could've sat out a year, except that's a killer for him at this point. Punk was fine leaving WWE in the past, but it was a different deal when they were messing with his future plans.

Punk hinted at the UFC thing but obviously didn't want to give it away. Punk mentioned how he also wanted to do the podcasts much earlier which would've fit in with the story that his signing was supposed to be announced at the press conference a few weeks (but didn't because the contract wasn't done.) If Punk signed with UFC and then went on Colt's podcast, Colt's podcast feed would still be down.

Did WWE know he was going to do this? Did they just happen to throw it in there as boiler plate? I dunno. Punk mentioned their lawyers thought he was going to TNA, not UFC, but Punk's not the most reliable narrator.

continue about your Monday.

I've been an independent contractor for companies I felt were mistreating me. I gave fair notice before leaving because I'm not an unprofessional crybaby.

Two weeks later and Punk announces he's going to the UFC. Damn, I guess it really was all just a promo to build himself up to look good for his next job. Punk worked you all again.

What the hell are you talking about? Even if he hadnt explained himself over the last couple of weeks, would people be any less interested in his UFC debut? That makes no sense.

People *MIGHT* be less curious about Vince's reaction to him signing with UFC if not for the podcast appearances, but that's it.

When was the Shopzone merch markdown on Punk stuff? September or so? So that was in direct response to Punk's attorneys contacting them. Whenever they went back to regular price is when they settled. Google says end of October. So I guess that's the earliest he could speak. But didn't he say Colt was in Europe or something first? Meanwhile that's about when Dana and Lorenzo came to Chicago to put the wheels in serious motion.

Independent of UFC I think a man who finds the story of CM Punk as important as CM Punk does would want to have his side all out there. Because the biggest takeaway of any of this whole ordeal is I don't think we can overestimate how annoying Punk's mentions on Twitter must be.

Roman Reigns is a dick for not doing two weeks of jobs before having his hernia surgery.

Japan. He was there for NOAH, mid to late October, that fits the time line.

THAT. That was another thing. On the second one, Punk says he doesn't believe the apology because Vince didn't do it to him personally. Vince didn't come to his house...like we now know UFC did. I'm not sure I'm interested in spending another three hours relistening for CLUES or what have you, but I think there's probably more parts that sound different when you know Punk's actually agreed to the UFC deal.

(If the announcement had been made earlier, I think we'd probably have lost out about a half hour of WWE talk to a half hour of "you're really going to do this?" UFC talk. I'm very okay with the way it went.)

Twitter seems to scale horribly; if you get the verified checkmark or 100K followers, you should also get a secret version of Twitter that allows you to filter out all mentions/DM from people you don't follow. I benefit from well known people being on Twitter, but I'm not sure how much they really do.

I once got a reply from Punk on Twitter in a way that sent my Twitter handle out to all of his followers. My phone buzzed more or less non-stop for the subsequent 20 minutes or so with all kinds of idiocy. Though it probably didn't help that it was about his balls.

Meh. WWE has fired people with no notice tons of times. Oh and literally caused some other folks' deaths. Goose, meet gander.
