-I'm pleasantly surprised that FSU isn't locked into top two just because they're undefeated, although I'm not sure if Oregon has done enough to actually warrant it happening.
-I support TCU being separated from Baylor, as a close H2H win should not completely overrule the difference in quality wins/strength of schedule.
-I have no idea why Marshall can't even get a token placement on the rankings.
-It's fun to project ahead to the conference championship week assuming no losses. Obviously ASU will get top 4 if they beat Oregon, but what about ACC champ Duke? Or SEC champ Georgia (or Missouri)? Or Big 10 champ Nebraska (or Minnesota)?

I'm starting to wish they wouldn't even put out rankings until like conference championship week. So much is going to change over the next couple of weeks with the coming games.

Florida can still play for the SEC title and I think that would be glorious if it happened.

Marshall, I can't say I feel bad for them when I look at their schedule. Committee is sending a big message that you better at least try to schedule someone worth a damn.

TCU's problem is they don't have any big games left(though I think there's at least a small chance Texas can slow them down). They can't move any further up, so I would expect them to drop down even if they win out.

Which is a catch-22 because some Big 5 ADs have said that they will only play other Big 5 non-confs because SOS is going to factor.

To me, the big message the Committee is sending is "If you are not a Big 5 school, why are you even bothering taking the field?"

I have a hard time believing that any AD's have said that.

But really even if a couple of them have, what bearing does it have on Marshall playing a horrible schedule this season? Can you justify them being ranked based on who they've played? In the past at least we'd have an undefeated small school with a win over someone meaningful to justify giving them some credit. ECU tried to be that team, but fell apart. No one else has stepped up.

As an alum, I really wish ECU had haggled itself into the ACC instead of Conference USA. They are the natural blood-rival of NC State, and as part of the UNC system, they could then take on Chapel Hill. Throw in Duke and Wake Forest, and you'd have an annual football Game of Thrones within the state. I think they would offer good games with Clemson and some of the newer teams as well.

In 2006, Boise St played a "horrible schedule" and made it to #12 and then beat Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl.

They played:
Sacramento State (FCS)
Oregon State (10-4)
at Wyoming (6-6)
Hawaiʻi (11-3)
at Utah (8-5)
Louisiana Tech (3-10)
at New Mexico State (4-8)
at Idaho (4-8)
Fresno State (4-8)
at San Jose State (9-4)
Utah State (1-11)
at Nevada (8-5)

Oklahoma (11-3)

Not including the Oklahoma game, their FBS opponents went (68-72) (0.486).

Marshall has played:
Miami (OH) (2-8)
Rhode Island (FCS)
Ohio (5-5)
Akron (4-6)
Old Dominion (4-6)
Middle Tennessee (5-4)
FIU (3-7)
Florida Atl (3-7)
Southern Miss (3-8)

Their FBS opponents are a combined (29-51) (0.363)

They still have:
Rice (6-3)
UAB (5-5)
Western KY (4-5)

Their records make a combined (44-64) (0.407)

Seems like a top-20 SOS to me, based on Boise St's previous preformance

Boise States schedule was bad that year for a national title contender. It was still far superior to Marshall this year.

And I'd actually like ECU in the ACC. Be a great fit. I wonder if we'll have any more conference expansion soon or if it's done for a while. Haven't heard any chatter this season for once.

Did you know...Marshall has beat just as many top-25 teams as Florida State? (Zero)

Clearly should be co-#1 with FSU then.

Clearly FSU should be co-#26. They haven't beat ANYONE of note.

Here's a pretty interesting read about the all-power agent. He's gotta be making some major bank. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=garber_greg&id=2072819&num=0
