Wow, a rookie QB, a trip to England, the worst running game in the league, and a ten game losing streak. Poor guy was just overwhelmed I guess.

New coach (most likely interim) to be named Tuesday in a press conference.

I wonder if any big names will be considered or if they'll just go the interim route and hope for the best at the end of the season.

The Raiders' remaining schedule...

Home: Kansas City, Denver, San Diego, Arizona, Buffalo, San Francisco
Away: Kansas City, Denver, San Diego, Seattle, St. Louis, Cleveland

They could be staring 0-16 right in the face. The only games that seem winnable are maybe Buffalo, St. Louis or the Browns, and even the last two are road games.

The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone." --- Bart Giamatti, on baseball

I can't imagine a big name wanting to jump in on this team; you have to be desperate to want to be one of 32 coaches, because there's not much else going for it (and there surely will be other better jobs coming open.)

This and the Twins firing both struck me as situations where the manager/coach did not excel at his job but even a superb field leader couldn't have made this year's team competitive. These teams just don't have enough good players. In Oakland, at least, it appears the franchise had to dig out of a massive hole left from when Al Davis was still controlling things, but they also had to show some progress and they've only shown many bad draft picks and free agent pickups. I'd be shocked if Reggie McKenzie is making the picks by the time the next draft rolls around.

Well, at least he has an almost .500 record as a head coach.

And of course they name drop Gruden.
